FROM SERVICE TO NATION BUILDING: NYSC 53RD ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED IN KANO
For 53 remarkable years, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has remained a symbol of national unity, youth empowerment, national development and selfless service for the nation.
Since its establishment in 1973, the Scheme has made Corps Members to have the sense of togetherness, oneness, friendship and brotherhood among Nigerian youths, irrespective of cultural and social backgrounds.
The scheme has also contributed to intercultural understanding and inter-ethnic marriages among Nigerians from different regions and backgrounds.
The NYSC Kano state coordinator Haj Halima AbdulKarim Abubakar, represented by the Assistant Director deployment and relocation Mr Fatogun OJ, welcomed everyone and presented a speech celebrating 53 years of building bridges, promoting patriotism, strengthening communities and nurturing future leaders through service and sacrifice.
As part of the anniversary celebration, NYSC staff, Corps Members, men of the Nigerian police and Federal Road Safety Corps Kano state participated in a 4½-kilometer Walk in Solidarity from the secretariat to the BUK Old side major road and back to the secretariat.
Highlights of the anniversary was the cutting of the anniversary cake amidst fanfare and free medical supplies for both staff of the NYSC and Corps Members.
