KANO STATE COMMISSIONS Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC) HEADQUARTERS TO STRENGTHEN PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commissioned the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC) Headquarters at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, reaffirming his administration's commitment to strengthening public health security and emergency preparedness in Kano State.
The establishment of the KNCDC Headquarters marks a significant milestone in the State's efforts to build a resilient health system capable of preventing, detecting, and responding effectively to disease outbreaks and other public health emergencies.
The Centre is expected to enhance disease surveillance, laboratory diagnosis, outbreak investigation, contact tracing, case management, infection prevention and control (IPC), risk communication, and emergency response coordination across the State.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration's resolve to continue investing in preventive healthcare and strengthening institutions that protect the health and well-being of the people of Kano.
The Kano State Ministry of Health commends His Excellency for this landmark investment and appreciates the support of all health workers, development partners, and stakeholders whose collaboration continues to advance public health in Kano State.

KSCHMA Enrols 1,038 Newly Recruited KNARDA Staff into Contributory Healthcare Scheme

The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) has enrolled 1,038 newly recruited staff of the Kano Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA) into the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Scheme, reinforcing the Kano State Government's commitment to improving workers' welfare and achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Representing the Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, the Director of Administration, Hajiya Amina Sani Usman, described the enrolment as a strategic investment in the health and wellbeing of the state's workforce. She reaffirmed the Agency's commitment to expanding access to quality, affordable healthcare for public servants and their dependants through accredited healthcare providers across the state.

The initiative reflects the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's continued dedication to strengthening social protection and ensuring equitable access to healthcare for all eligible public servants.

KANO STATE HOLDS QUARTERLY PHC TASK FORCE MEETING

The Honourable Commissioner for Health; Dr. abubakar Labaran Yusuf convened the Quarterly State Task Force Meeting on Primary Health Care (PHC) at the auditorium, Bompai, Kano.

The high-level engagement brought together key stakeholders including Traditional Leaders across Kano State, the 44 LGA Chairmen, Ministry Officials, and Development Partners to assess recent progress, address challenges, and refine strategic priorities for primary healthcare delivery.

Key Highlights of the Meeting includes Strengthening Grassroots Healthcare, Multi-Sectoral Synergy, Review & Accountability of the health sector benchmarks to ensure accountable and effective healthcare delivery for every citizen in Kano State.

Strategic Engagement Between Kano State Ministry of Health and Gates Foundation

Today, 24th July 2026, the Kano State Ministry of Health hosted a high-level strategic engagement meeting with representatives of the Gates Foundation at the Kano Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) Mini Conference Room.

The meeting was chaired by the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, and brought together senior officials from the Ministry of Health, development partners, and key technical stakeholders to discuss priority health interventions, strengthen strategic partnerships, and explore collaborative approaches to improving health outcomes across Kano State.

Together, we continue to advance partnerships that drive impactful and lasting improvements in public health for the people of Kano State.

Kano Hosts High-Level Summit on Triple Elimination of HIV, Hepatitis B and Syphilis

The Kano State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS (KSACA) and Trinity Healthcare Foundation, convened a high-level stakeholders' summit to strengthen efforts toward the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, Hepatitis B, and Syphilis in Kano State.

Held under the theme "Synergizing Efforts Towards Triple Elimination: Strengthening Investment, Innovation, and Collaboration to End HIV, Viral Hepatitis and Syphilis in Kano State," the summit brought together government officials, development partners, civil society organizations, and traditional and religious leaders to chart a sustainable path toward Triple Elimination.

In his keynote address, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, reaffirmed the Kano State Government's commitment to ensuring that every pregnant woman receives integrated screening, timely treatment, safe delivery, and postnatal follow-up for HIV, Hepatitis B, and Syphilis. He emphasized the importance of strengthening investments, expanding integrated services across all 44 LGAs, improving Hepatitis B birth-dose vaccination, and fostering stronger partnerships to protect mothers and newborns.

The summit featured technical presentations, panel discussions on financing and partnerships, and concluded with a communique and renewed commitments from stakeholders to accelerate the elimination of these preventable diseases in Kano State.

Together, we can build a healthier future for every mother and every child.

Kano State has achieved 13 consecutive months without a single polio case, a major milestone in Nigeria’s polio eradication efforts.

The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, confirmed this during a recent State Task Force meeting, highlighting strong government commitment, strategic planning, and partnerships with NPHCDA, UNICEF, and WHO.

The 2026 Polio Immunization Campaign kicks off on Saturday, 28th March, and all residents are urged to ensure their children are vaccinated. Special recognition goes to Madobi LGA for top immunization coverage.
