CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE ON THE THIRD YEAR ANNIVERSARY IN OFFICE OF HIS EXCELLENCY, GOVERNOR ABBA KABIR YUSUF

On the auspicious occasion of your Third Year Anniversary in Office, we extend our warmest congratulations and profound appreciation to His Excellency, Alh. Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Executive Governor of Kano State, for three remarkable years of visionary leadership, dedicated service, and transformative governance.

Your administration has distinguished itself through extraordinary achievements and landmark developmental strides that have positively impacted the lives of millions of Kano State citizens. Through your unwavering commitment to educational advancement, thousands of students have benefited from improved access to quality education, enhanced learning infrastructure, and strategic investments in human capital development, laying a solid foundation for a promising future, and prosperity of the state.

Your bold urban renewal initiatives have significantly transformed the physical landscape of Kano State, modernizing critical infrastructure, improving public facilities, and creating a more sustainable and economically vibrant environment for residents and businesses alike.

Equally commendable is your administration's prudent and compassionate approach to pension management, which has restored hope and dignity to retirees through the settlement of backlog of over thirty two billion naira entitlements, and the implementation of policies that prioritize the welfare of senior citizens who devoted their lives to public service.

Above all, your people-centered agenda has reaffirmed the principles of responsive and inclusive governance, ensuring that the needs, aspirations, and well-being of the people remain at the heart of government. Your commitment to inclusiveness, social welfare, economic empowerment, and public accountability which have continued to inspire confidence and strengthen the bond between government and the people.

Critical of all your governance drive, is the critical decision to champion a campaign against thuggery and other related activities in the State, amongst the youths, through the introduction of a Safe Corridor Programme, an independent initiative which focuses on diradicalizing the young people, to abandon their anti social behavior to embrace peace. A programme which is in the first phase, is targeting one thousand young people

As you celebrate this significant milestone, we commend your steadfast dedication to the progress and development of Kano State. May your administration continue to record greater successes, and may the years ahead bring even more prosperity, peace, and sustainable development to the good people of Kano State.

Congratulations on your three impactful years of exemplary leadership and service to humanity

Press Statement

CLAIM CREDITED TO AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL ON THE ALLEGED KILLINGS OF FIVE PEOPLE ON THE DAY OF THE SWEARING IN OF THE NEW DEPUTY GOVERNOR, MISLEADING AND UNFOUNDED

We received the news with shock, on a claim credited to AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL, which insinuated that, five people were killed on the day of the swearing in ceremony of Alh. Murtala Sulen Garo, the new Deputy Governor of Kano State

We want to categorically state that, the report was not only misleading, unfounded but also mischevious, as it lacks authenticity and practical evidence to prove it. We have searched around to situate the source of the story, including a close interaction with security agencies, but couldn't substantiate the claim of such an incident, as it was never reported officially or formally. The alleged encounter amongst some thugs which was said to have claimed the lives of five people, did not take place neither at the Government House, nor anywhere close to the surroundings of the Kano State Government House, therefore such an incident should not be connected under any disguise with the State function

It is clear that, the story was mischievously concocted to tarnish the image of the Kano State Government, by some anti Kano elements and their collaborators. As this shall not distract the Government from its goal in providing socio economic and infrastructure development for the good people of Kano

It is unfortunate that, a reputable organization such as Amnesty International would stoop so low to report such a story without verification or minding the sensitivity or implications of such reckless action, which could drag the State into chaos or disharmony, and all by simply depending on video clips being circulated on social media. The organization also deliberately refused to contact any of the security agencies in Kano or any relevant Government officials to verify, by subjecting the insinuations through objective scrutiny, to arrive at a balanced and egocentric sentiment free judgement

It is rather disappointing how on several occasions, Amnesty International, would report an incident relating to Kano State, without verification from the concerned stakeholders, and would conveniently take side without recourse to upholding the rights of hearing or balancing from the other side. The leadership of Amnesty International in Nigeria, has proved many times without number it's incompetence and sentiments driven tendency, as they have always seemed to be so particular and negative on issues that have a direct bearing with Kano State. While ignoring other sensitive happenings around the Country.

While we condemn the conduct of Amnesty in Nigeria, for unprofessionalism, promotion of fake news and misinformation, as well as spreading rumors and misleading the public. We urge the World leadership of Amnesty International, to be watchful on the activities and conduct of the Nigerian branch of the group, to safeguard the integrity of the organization in the interest of serving public, for which the organization stands.

Kano State Government under the able leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has always proved it's commitment to end all forms of thuggery, Yan daba fights and other related activities amongst the youth across the State, hence the establishment of a dedicated programme' Safe Corridor' Kano Model, which is being directly supervised by the Governor himself. The programme has in the last three months concluded the profiling of 2030 volunteer repentant youths, for enrollment into the programme

Consequently, the Kano State Executive Council, under the chairmanship of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, earmarked more than six hundred million to commence the implementation of the programme, targeting one thousand youth in the first phase of rehabilitation, empowerment and reintegration. One would wonder where Amnesty International has been, as they could not notice this laudable and remarkable commitment of the Kano State Government, in addressing and bringing to an end all forms of thuggery, Yan daba fights and hooliganism in the State

Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, shall continue to put its best to facilitate the empowerment and development of the Kano youths, to secure their future for effective and proper utilization of their energy to support the development of our dear State

While the Kano State Government remains committed to safeguarding the lives and properties of the Kano residents, through collaboration with all security agencies and other relavant bodies, we also welcome all partnership that would support our Government in delivering the dividends of democracy, through peace, security and stability. We urge the Kano residents to continue to support and cooperate with the Government to achieve our goal of advancing the economy and social well-being of our dear citizens, as the security agencies in the State have been up and doing in conducting a discreet investigation on the matter

PRESS STATEMENT

WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY 2026: KANO REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO A FREE, RESPONSIBLE, AND PEACE-DRIVEN MEDIA

The Kano State Government joins the global community in commemorating this year’s World Press Freedom Day, observed annually on the 3rd of May, as proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993. This important day serves not merely as a ceremonial occasion, but as a moment for deep reflection, renewed resistance against threats to press freedom, and enhanced commitment to the ideals of a free, responsible, and independent media.

The theme for this year, “Shaping a Future at Peace,” underscores the vital role of the media in promoting unity, stability, and sustainable development in societies across the world.

The Kano State Government, under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, proudly identifies itself as a recognized media-friendly administration, grounded in openness, transparency, and mutual respect in its engagement with the press. This commitment has been widely acknowledged, including recognition by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) as a “Journalist-Friendly” government.

In line with this vision, Government reiterates that the administration maintains an open-door policy with media practitioners and stakeholders. Regular dialogue with media leaders has been institutionalized, while deliberate efforts are being made to support the growth of digital journalism, particularly through engagement with digital Media practitioners

The government recognizes and emphasizes the importance of professionalism and ethical responsibility, especially in this era of rapidly evolving technology. Media practitioners are urged to uphold the highest standards of journalism in the face of challenges posed by social media, including the spread of misinformation and fake news.

Furthermore, the Kano State Government reaffirms that its media policy shall always be guided by respect for press freedom and would not condone any form of intimidation or suppressing the professional conduct of the Journalism practice in the State.

As part of its broader commitment, the administration shall continue to prioritize the welfare of journalists and enhance access to timely and accurate information, thereby enabling the media to effectively carry out its constitutional role.

The government therefore calls on journalists and media organizations to remain steadfast in promoting responsible journalism that supports peace, development, and the collective interests of the people. A free press must also be fair and development-oriented, working in partnership with government and society at large.

In conclusion, Kano State Government reaffirms its unwavering commitment to upholding press freedom and providing an enabling environment for media practice, while urging practitioners to remain professional, objective, and dedicated to the advancement of our
society.

Governor of Kano State, Alh. Abba Kabir Yusuf has won Financial Architect Governor of the year 2026 award by Daily Independent Newspaper, following the Governor’s top score among other numerous nominees

Announcing the emergence of Governor Yusuf as the winner of the award, the Managing Director/ Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Independent newspapers, Steve Omanufeme revealed that, Governor Yusuf’s emergence as the Financial Architect Governor followed a rigorous process of three step selection in which the Governor defeated others and emerged the winner.

Mr. Omanufeme stated that, before his emergence, Governor Yusuf was selected through public voting, panel of jury and Daily Independent’s board of Editors, who crowned the Governor as the Financial Architect of the year, at the occasion to mark the climax of the golden jubilee celebration of the newspaper in Lagos

The award which was received on behalf of Governor Yusuf, by the Honourable Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, held at Eko Hotel and Suites Victoria Island, Lagos, was a testimony of the Abba Kabir Yusuf’s financial prudence and fiscal discipline, which led to unprecedented transformation in the history of revenue generation of the state

According to the Independent Newspaper, the emergence of Governor Yusuf as the winner of the Financial Architect award was based on his unbeaten track record in improving revenue generation in Kano state, which changed the state’s revenue profile that wobbled between paltry N37 Billion to N40 billion in 2023, but now hit over N100 billion naira, as at the end of 2025 fiscal year. This feat that saw Kano surpasses other States it peers in revenue generation, was only achieved through dint of hard work and financial prudence

PRESS STATEMENT

RE: DEBUNKING MISLEADING AND FALSE CLAIMS BY FORMER COMMISSIONER OF INVESTMENT, COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY, SHEHU WADA SAGAGI

My attention has been drawn to a misleading and unfounded statement credited to the immediate past Commissioner of Investment, Commerce and Industry, Shehu Wada Sagagi, alleging that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf defected to the APC out of fear of being denied the opportunity to contest for a second term under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) platform.

The Kano State Government wishes to categorically state that this claim is false, baseless, and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public and distort the genuine intentions behind the Governor’s political realignment.

For the avoidance of doubt, the decision of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to realign politically was taken in the overriding interest of peace, unity, and sustainable development of Kano State. It is a strategic and well-considered move aimed at consolidating progress, fostering stronger collaboration, and ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach all citizens and residents without marginalization.

The insinuation that the Governor acted out of fear of not securing a second-term ticket is not only misleading but also ignores his strong political standing, wide acceptance, and proven track record of service delivery across the state. The Governor remains focused on the “Kano First” agenda, which prioritizes the welfare of the people, infrastructural development, economic growth, and social stability.

We therefore urge the public to disregard the statement credited to Shehu Wada Sagagi, as it does not reflect the true state of affairs. The Kano State Government remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the continued progress of the state.

The present administration will not be distracted by baseless claims and the sentiments of unpatriotic elements, but will continue to work tirelessly to deliver on its mandate to the good people of Kano State.

The Governor also called on public officials at all levels to cooperate with Information Officers and support their work to enhance public access to government policies, programmes, and activities, thereby strengthening democratic processes.

He assured participants of government’s commitment to providing modern working tools and a conducive environment to enable them to discharge their responsibilities effectively, while commending the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs for organizing the timely and impactful workshop.

The Commissioner highlighted the importance of the workshop’s theme, stating that it would enhance participants’ understanding of ethical standards, transparency, and digital communication strategies necessary for effective information management in contemporary society.

He reminded Information Officers of their critical role as the link between government and the people, urging them to uphold professionalism, actively engage with the public, and contribute to building trust and confidence in government activities.

Comrade Waiya further assured that the Ministry would continue to strengthen partnerships with media organizations, professional bodies, and relevant stakeholders to promote effective communication and capacity development, while encouraging participants to take full advantage of the training to improve their performance and service delivery.
