Kamuku National PARK (KNP) Joins 4135 Force Protection Wing of the NAF, Birnin Gwari in a 10km Walk/Jog Exercise

KNP participated in this year's NAF annual 10km walk /Jog in Birnin Gwari with other sister agencies last Saturday, 18/10/25. The 10-kilometre Walk/Jog is an annual exercise organized by the NAF across the country as part of efforts to enhance the health, fitness and operational readiness of its personnel.

Other security agencies that participated in the exercise include the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Road Safety Corps.
The CP was represented by PW Vincent A. Ariah in company of other officers and men of the Park.
The exercise commenced by 6:00am and ended by 8:00am.

PW Vincent A. Ariah received a gift for first position amongst KNP participants in the Walking category while PR II Abubakar Yahaya came first position in the Jogging category.

The office K9 (German Shepherd) "Bullet" also participated in the exercise and was recognized and appreciated by the Commander of the 4135 FPW of NAF, Birnin Gwari Squadron Leader, Marafa.

In his remarks, the Commander thanked the CP as well as heads of other agencies for honoring NAF invitation for this year's exercise.

The first IUCN Green Status of Species assessment for the tiger finds that the world’s largest cat is Critically Depleted after a century of population decline, but also shows that conservation has prevented even greater losses and provides hope for recovery of tigers across their range.

Led by scientists from the Wildlife Conservation Society in collaboration with WWF, Panthera, and other partners under the auspices of the IUCN SSC Cat Specialist Group, the assessment is the most comprehensive evaluation yet of tiger recovery potential. It provides a new perspective on the effectiveness of conservation, measuring not only how close the species is to extinction, but how far it has progressed—or could progress—toward full ecological recovery.

KAMUKU NATIONAL PARK CELEBERATES 2024 WORLD RANGER DAY

In line with the Nigeria National Park Service directives, Kamuku National PARK joined all over the World to mark this year's with the theme: RANGERS- The Natural Solution to Achieving the 30×30 Biodiversity Target.

The itinerary of the celebration began with Physical Training (PT) where Officers and Men of Kamuku National Park converged at Kada Motel for the PT exercise.

The Day 2 was a novelty football match between 4135 Force Protection Wing of Nigerian AirForce, Birnin Gwari and Kamuku National Park Football Club. However, the march ended in favour of NAF 3-1.

Highlight of this event was a souvenir presentation to the Commanding Officer of 4135 FPW of the NAF Birnin Gwari in person of Squadron Leader MA Marafa after the football match.

On the 31st July, 2024 which is the World Ranger Day, activities of the occasion include a key note address delivered by the Ag-Conservator of Park, CPI Bala J. Garga, presentation of cash gift of N10,000 each to the families of the fallen Rangers, and a group photograph to mark the occasion as shown below:

WED2021: Stakeholders should work together, create awareness, green our cities – Goni

The Conservator General, National Park Service, Dr Ibrahim Goni has called on environment stakeholders to work together, create awareness and green the nation — for a healthy environment.

Goni said this in commemoration of the 2021 World Environment Day which has the theme ‘Ecosystem Restoration’.

He said every Nigerian should take ownership of his environment for the health of the nation and its inhabitants.

According to him, all stakeholders must deliberately be involved in environmental conservation and restoration, to save our endangered species from going into extinction.

“Man has contributed so much in destroying the ecosystem and, though we cannot turn back the time, we can shape the future by taking care of the present.

” We should stop illegal felling of trees, continue to grow trees in our houses and environment, create gardens and clean up our rivers and coasts.

“We should collectively take responsibility and pay more attention to our environment.

” The environment gives us back what has been given to it,” he added.

The C-G noted that environmental conservation and restoration is critical to the wellbeing and survival of the inhabitants of the nation.

” Maintaining ecosystem balance will give clean air, shade, absorb harmful substances emitted by industries, check erosion and serve as home to animals”.

He, therefore, called for more awareness creation by all stakeholders on the importance of conservation and the need to protect the ecosystem.

“A lot of people are not aware of the dangers of environmental degradation so we must aggressively step up our awareness campaign to urgently arrest the tide.

” The zoonotic diseases such as covid-19, were said to have originated from humans’ interactions with wildlife and their habitat.

“COVID-19 is as a result of extraction from wildlife: the disease is believed to have come from animals to humans, therefore there is a link between COVID-19 and environmental degradation.

“For this reason, healthy ecosystems are crucial to reducing disease outbreaks, and disaster impacts,” he warned.
