AAC Accuses DSS of 'State Terrorism' Over Journalist Zainab Sodiq's Detention, Demands Immediate Release

The African Action Congress (AAC) has accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of carrying out what it described as the "criminal abduction and illegal detention" of journalist Zainab Sodiq, demanding her immediate and unconditional release.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its FCT Chairman, Agena Robert Ande, the opposition party condemned the continued detention of Sodiq, alleging that the DSS was using state institutions to suppress journalists and political activists.
"The DSS must release Zainab Sodiq now," the party declared, describing her detention as "an act of state terrorism and political repression."
"What the DSS did is not routine screening. It is kidnapping. It is state terrorism. It is the desperate act of a regime that has run out of ideas and has now declared war on truth," the statement read.
The AAC alleged that the drone at the centre of the controversy belonged to the party's presidential candidate and human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, insisting that it was a professional media tool used for documenting elections and matters of public interest.
According to the party, the DSS was aware of the ownership of the drone and had previously seized a similar device from Sowore in Ondo State in 2019 without returning it.
"The DJI Mavic Air drone in question belongs personally to our Presidential Candidate, Comrade Omoyele Sowore. It is a professional media tool used to document elections and public interest. The DSS knows this," the statement said.
