PVNL Holds WOFAN ICON2 Q3 Review Meeting

We just concluded the WOFAN ICON2 Quarter Three (Q3) Review Meeting across Kaduna, Nasarawa and Benue States, bringing together the PVNL project team, Extension Workers (EWs), and Facilitators to review activities implemented during the quarter and assess progress against planned targets.

The review focused on key interventions carried out during Q3, highlighting achievements, implementation challenges, lessons learned, and areas requiring further attention. The team also assessed progress across ongoing activities and reviewed priorities for the next quarter.
As part of the meeting, an intermediate training on Agro Scale-Up Marketing was conducted for Facilitators and Extension Workers. The training equipped participants with relevant knowledge and skills to effectively conduct step-down training for farmers and community partners, with emphasis on improving the marketing and promotion of agro-products.
The meeting provided a platform to strengthen coordination, address implementation gaps, enhance the capacity of field teams, and agree on action points to support effective project delivery as the WOFAN ICON2 Project progresses into Q4.

From 31st August to 4th September 2026, Investors, Leaders, Innovators, Policy makers, Development partners, Farmers and Stakeholders will gather in Kigali, Rwanda for the Africa Food Systems Forum 2026 under the powerful theme: “Investing in Africa’s Agri-Food Systems: Nourishing Nations, Growing Jobs, building Resilience.”

Greenfield Day under the IDH Project

We successfully hosted Farmers’ Greenfield Day across our demonstration plots, bringing together PVNL staff, lead farmers, and participating farmers for a day of practical learning, knowledge sharing, and collaboration.

The event provided an opportunity for farmers to deepen their understanding of regenerative agriculture and see how good agronomic practices can improve productivity while protecting the environment.

Key lessons and practical demonstrations focused on:

➢ Intercropping: Farmers learned about the benefits of growing compatible crops together, including better use of land and resources, improved soil health, and greater resilience.
➢ Tree planting: Participants explored how integrating trees into farming systems can improve soil health and biodiversity, support carbon sequestration, provide shade, and create additional long-term income opportunities.
➢ Good Agronomic Practices (GAP):Farmers were guided on good agronomic practices, including proper land preparation, planting, crop management, and recommended plant spacing to reduce competition for nutrients, water, sunlight, and other resources, thereby promoting healthy crop growth and improved productivity.
The Greenfield Day also gave farmers the opportunity to reflect on lessons from the demonstration plots and understand the different forms of support being provided by PVNL under the IDH Project.

Through practical learning and collaboration, we continue to support farmers in adopting sustainable practices that can improve productivity, strengthen livelihoods, and build more resilient farming communities.

Together, we are growing better, more productive, and more sustainable farms.

Following the recent review and planning meeting, the IDH team conducted a field visit to the PVNL-IDH demonstration plots at the Prison Farms in Kaduna.

The visit brought together PVNL staff, lead farmers, and participating farmers engaged in the project. Discussions during the visit focused on regenerative agriculture, its goals, objectives, and the practical practices already being applied on farmers’ fields. The team reflected on lessons learned to date and highlighted the diverse forms of support PVNL is providing to smallholder farmers. These efforts are designed to drive sustainable agricultural production, improve productivity, and build resilience among farming communities.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the IDH team for their hands-on technical guidance and unwavering support. Their regular field monitoring visits and direct engagement with our extension agents, farmers, and project management team have been invaluable. By helping us assess program quality, identify challenges, and co-develop adaptive solutions in real time, IDH has ensured that our interventions remain effective and responsive to farmers’ needs.

We are sincerely grateful to the IDH team for walking this journey with us. Their commitment and partnership continue to inspire confidence and drive impact, reinforcing our shared vision of sustainable, climate-smart agriculture that creates lasting value for smallholder farmer.

Strengthening Grains Value Chains Through Regenerative Agriculture: A Year 2 Milestone Review

Over the course of the week, the Palm Valley Nigeria Limited team welcomed the IDH team for the Year 2 Program Review, a powerful moment to reflect on progress, share learnings, and reaffirm our shared commitment to smallholder farmers across Kaduna and Nasarawa States.

Here's a look at what we've achieved together so far in Year 2:

Milestones & Adaptive Management
• 1,000 additional farmers integrated into the grain supply chain, building on the 4,000 farmers reached in Year 1, putting us on track toward our 5,000 farmer target.
• 20 new demonstration plots established across Kaduna and Nasarawa to showcase regenerative practices in action.
• Climate advisory support provided to over 2000 farmers.

Impact Across Gender, Income & Sustainability
• Gender inclusion remains central to our model, with women consistently making up 50% of participating farmers.

• Input financing support was provided covering over 2,000 hectares for maize and soybean production.

•25,000 tree seedlings distributed to 5,000 farmers across Kaduna and Nasarawa to advance agroforestry as a core regenerative practice.

None of this would be possible without the hands-on technical guidance from the IDH team. Through periodic field monitoring visits, IDH's technical experts worked directly with our extension workers, field officers and project management team in assessing program quality, identifying challenges, and co-developing corrective and adaptive solutions in real time.

This partnership shows what’s possible when SMEs and development partners work together. Through the NICFI program, IDH is helping PVNL scale climate-smart agriculture, strengthen markets, and create lasting value for farmers, communities, and the environment.
