I woke up to an ordinary morning, staring blankly at the ceiling. As I sat up, my gaze fell on my phone, and I reached out to grab it. But my hand passed through it, sending a shiver down my spine. "What's happening? Am I... de@d?" Panic set in as I leapt out of bed, only to realize I was still lying there, eyes wide open.
I stumbled out of my room, desperate to find someone, anyone, who could understand. But every attempt to interact with the world around me was met with failure. My hand passed through the door handle, and I felt a strange sensation as I walked through the door. "Something's wrong," I whispered to myself.
In the kitchen, Mom was humming her favorite worship song as she prepared breakfast. The aroma of akamu and chips filled the air, but my greeting fell flat as she didn't even flinch. I tried to tap her shoulder, but my hand went right through her. I shouted beside her ear, but it was like I was invisible.
I moved to the sitting r00m, where my younger brother was playing with my cousins. I stood there, frozen, as they chattered and laughed. I've always scolded them for not greeting elders properly, but now... now I was the one being ignored. My brother's eyes met mine, and he said, "I'm sorry I didn't see you right on time. Is breakfast ready?" A spark of hope ignited within me, maybe he could see me after all.
But before I could respond, Mom's voice chimed in from behind me, "Yes, go wake your l@zy brother. He's still sleeping at this hour." I turned to see her standing there, smiling, as my brother ran past through me, oblivious to my presence. I followed him to my room, watching in confusion as he tapped my lap to wake me up even though my eyes are opened but absent minded. And then I saw myself sitting up, rubbing my eyes... while my ghostly form still stood behind my brother.
What's happening? Why am I still here, and my body is awake?
