Honoured to represent His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, today I commissioned the Plateau Power Tiller Utilization and Youth Mechanization Service Programme. 200 hand held 7.5hp power tillers were commissioned.
Standing at the PAMSCO Head Office in Jos, watching 200 petrol-powered hand-held tillers being flagged off, I was reminded of why we chose public service.
When we came into office, the tractor density we met in this State was a painful reflection of years of neglect, our farmers bent over the soil, doing by hand what machines should do. His Excellency, then made a clear determination from day one to erase the drudgery from agriculture in Plateau State. Today is a major additional step in that direction.
These tillers will first go to work at BARC Farms, serving as a key State contribution to the Youth Agricultural Empowerment Initiative, putting mechanized land preparation at the heart of youth-led farming from the very start. From there, the machines will be deployed across all 17 Local Government Areas of the State, operated by trained Plateau youth who will be selected, assessed, and trained. Each operator will not just be a machine handler, they will be rural entrepreneurs, earning dignified incomes while delivering affordable land-preparation services to smallholder farmers in their own communities at subsidized rates.
To His Excellency, Governor Mutfwang, thank you for the vision, the investment, and the refusal to accept that farming must remain hard, unprofitable, and unattractive to our people. To the team at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, PAMSCO, and every farmer, this is your win too.
Plateau State is mechanizing. The farms are ready. The youth are ready.
Let us till!
