GOVERNOR MUTFWANG RESTATES HIS ADMINISTRATION’S COMMITMENT TO REVITALIZING EDUCATION SECTOR IN PLATEAU STATE AS FG UNVEILS REFORMS TO BRIDGE OUT-OF-SCHOOL GAP
The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to revitalizing the education sector and ensuring that every child has access to quality and affordable education, as the Federal Republic of Nigeria unveiled fresh reforms aimed at bridging the gap of out-of-school children across the nation.
Governor Mutfwang made this known at the ongoing 2026 Basic Education in Nigeria Boot Camp Summit taking place in Jos.
The three-day summit, themed “Enhancing Access to Inclusive Quality Education and Bridging the Gap for Out-of-School Children in Nigeria,” brought together key stakeholders, policymakers, development partners, and education experts to chart practical pathways for addressing one of the country’s most pressing educational challenges.
Represented by his Deputy, Her Excellency Ngo Josephine Piyo, Governor Mutfwang described the out-of-school children crisis as a matter of urgent national concern, noting that it represents millions of deferred dreams, untapped potentials, and uncertain futures.
He stressed that children who remain outside the formal education system face heightened risks of poverty, child labour, insecurity, and social exclusion, adding that the challenge requires urgent, coordinated, and sustained action at all levels of government and society.
Highlighting achievements of the Plateau State Government in the education sector, he disclosed that his administration has so far constructed 397 classrooms, renovated 557 others, drilled 33 motorized boreholes in schools, and supplied furniture to thousands of pupils across the state in order to create a more conducive environment for learning.
“Our administration remains committed to revitalizing the education sector and ensuring that every child, regardless of location, gender, disability, or socio-economic background, has access to quality and affordable education,” he stated.
Governor Mutfwang further welcomed the launch of key national policy documents at the summit, including the National Policy on Alternative Learning Pathways in Nigeria and the National Guidelines for the Facilitation of Re-Entry of Pregnant and Married Adolescent Girls into Schools.
According to him, these reforms mark a significant milestone in expanding flexible, inclusive, and equitable educational opportunities for children previously excluded from the formal school system.
Earlier, the Honourable Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, said the Federal Government under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains fully committed to delivering inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all Nigerian children through targeted interventions, curriculum reforms, digital learning tools, teacher development, and alternative learning pathways.
On her part, the Commissioner for Education, Plateau State, Dr Mrs Kachollom Gang, in an opening remark, noted that the Governor Caleb Mutfwang administration remains committed to revitalizing the education sector and ensuring that every child, regardless of location, gender, disability, or socio-economic background, has access to quality and affordable education.
She added that the summit is expected to produce practical strategies and innovative solutions for identifying out-of-school children, reintegrating them into the education system, and ensuring their retention and successful completion of basic education.
