From 35 Ambulances to Less Than 10: The Slow Death of Osun’s Emergency Services Under Adeleke

By Adebayo Adedeji

The Osun State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System, popularly known as O’AMBULANCE, is in shambles. It is in a coma. It is in a near-dead situation. This once-life-saving agency---strategically domiciled in the Office of the Governor for strict monitoring and operational effectiveness because of its critical importance to citizens’ wellbeing---is now bleeding profusely. And this tragedy persists despite the huge budgetary allocations consumed by the Office of the Governor of Osun State.

By 2025, the Office of Governor Ademola Adeleke had gulped ₦92 billion. Shockingly, barely ₦434 million of this amount, representing a ridiculous 0.47% of the total spending, was devoted to emergency medical response as at 2025. This is not just negligence, it is a moral failure.

Upon assuming office in November 2022, the Adeleke government inherited no fewer than 35 serviceable ambulances, backed by a robust response system widely rated as one of the best in Nigeria. Today, the reverse is the case. The number of functional ambulances has dwindled drastically, response time has collapsed and staff morale has plummeted. Less than 10 ambulances are reportedly in good condition.

In OSOGBO ZONE, only two ambulances are said to be in good working condition for daytime operations: these are stationed at Aregbe and Freedom Park. Dele YesSir ambulance operates only at night, with severely limited fuel. During the day, some staff abandon their duty posts by 3:00 pm due to lack of fuel.

In IWO ZONE, only the Iwo Unit is in good condition. Olaoluwa and Ayedire ambulances have been reportedly abandoned in a mechanic workshop in Ede for several months.

In IKIRE ZONE, only the Naira & Kobo Unit is operational. Gbongon Junction Unit, Irewole Local Government Unit, and Isokan Local Government Unit are no longer functioning, according to sources.

In ILESA ZONE, only one ambulance is said to be in good condition. But oftentimes, its operation is impacted on account of lack of fuel.

It was learnt that staff members are often assembled at Imo Maternity, Ilesa, while others are routinely absent due to operational frustration.

In IFE ZONE, only one ambulance is available and sources confirmed it rarely has fuel, rendering it unreliable in emergencies.

In EDE ZONE, only two ambulances are stationed there and are barely operational, functioning mainly because of the Governor’s presence.

All other ambulances in the state are reportedly packed and allowed to rot away in mechanic workshops in Ede.

This is the grim state of emergency medical care in Osun State today: a system designed to save lives now gasping for breath. While billions are spent at the seat of power, citizens bleed on highways, in homes, and in maternity wards---waiting for ambulances that never arrive.

The APC Governorship Candidate in the forthcoming election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) has promised to pay adequate attention to emergency services. His administration will buy more ambulances and prioritize welfare of emergency service providers. Emergency and ambulance services are a critical part of any healthcare system. AMBO will not pay lip service to this important need of the people.

I Will Pay Salary Arrears Of Teachers, Health Workers Sacked In 2022 – Oyebamiji

Celebrates Osun-born LAUTECH Best Graduating Student

The Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), has assured that his administration would reabsorb the 1,500 teachers and the 515 health workers who were illegally and unceremoniously sacked by the current administration in the state.

He not only assured of their reinstatement, Oyebamiji equally promised to facilitate the payment of their salary arrears as well as restoring respect and dignity to the public service.

The 1,500 teachers were part of the 2,500 teachers employed by the immediate past APC administration led by former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola. Since sacking of the teachers and health workers, the Adeleke government has not successfully recruited new workers to replace them.

Oyebamiji made this solemn promise on Tuesday in Osogbo during a strategic meeting with the affected workers.

The atmosphere at the venue of the meeting was electrifying as the excited sacked workers received the joyous assurance from the APC governorship candidate. The affected workers offered prayers for the success of AMBO as they expressed their willingness to support the gubernatorial ambition of the former Commissioner of Finance in the state.

On the same day, the APC governorship candidate met with the overall best graduating student of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho, Caleb Olugbenga Oladepo, a proud product of the public school system established and strengthened by previous APC administrations in the state.

Oladepo, from Ejigbo Local Government Area of the state, graduated with a First Class degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, an academic feat which has continued to attract widespread commendation.

Oyebamiji celebrated the excellence demonstrated by the young scholar, offering him a cash reward of One Million Naira Only ( N1 Million ) just as he used the occasion to encourage students across the state, particularly those from public schools, that with determination, discipline and hard work, they too can attain greatness in their academic pursuits.

The APC notes with concern that despite the positive attention and honour Oladepo has brought to Osun State through this remarkable achievement, the present state government has not deemed it fit to identify with or celebrate the trailblazer. This is in sharp contrast to the characteristic attitude of the governor who is often quick to seek media attention in celebrating winners in less profound endeavours.

Oyebamiji also used the occasion to appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC-led Federal Government for the installation and activation of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), a major financial intervention that came to the rescue of Oladepo at a critical moment in his academic journey.

Oladepo disclosed that he benefitted from the Federal Government student loan scheme for three years when he was on the verge of dropping out of school due to severe financial difficulties faced by his parents.

The APC governorship candidate further promised that upon becoming Governor of Osun State, his administration would activate policies that would make education affordable and pocket-friendly for all citizens of the state.

He expressed particular concern over what he described as cut-throat and exploitative school fees currently being charged in state-owned tertiary institutions, especially at the University of Ilesa (UNILESA) and Osun State University (UNIOSUN).

According to him, the N1.5 million school fees being charged in some programmes in the institutions are outrageous and beyond the reach of average citizens, assuring that his government would take drastic and practical steps to address the situation.

If you aren't business-oriented, entrepreneurship-driven, and economically sound, you can't understand the APC Business Empowerment Schemes.

The learned, exposed, and experienced ruling party members in Osun understood the effects of the scheme on our socio-economic development especially in SMEs.

My advice to thousands of SAs in the Osun State government is to do proper research and seek guidance from the experts before copying and pasting from one overfed individual.

The scheme was a support grant to business owners and artisans not directionless appointments being made by some individuals to some section of the Osun West Senatorial District.

History was made on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, as the Ife East Local Government Secretariat witnessed an administrative revival unlike any seen in recent decades. In a landmark event reminiscent of the vibrant autonomy of years past, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Akinwale Akinwole (Omilaj), launched a comprehensive community engagement and poverty alleviation initiative, marking a new dawn for grassroots governance.

The initiative, hailed by Kabiyesi Oladapo Olafiranye, the "Osogun Adimula," and echoed by beneficiaries as the most significant grant empowerment in the history of the Ife East Council, was designed as a core component of the "People-First" agenda. Covering over 1500 beneficiaries, It serves as a strategic engine to stimulate the local economy across the Ife East axis and the wider constituency.

This multi-sectoral intervention provides direct financial grants and sustainable support to the diverse sectors that form the backbone of Ife East, including market women, petty traders, NURTW members, Okada riders, students under the National Ife Descendants Students’ Association (NIDSA), various youth organizations, religious leaders from both CAN and the Muslim community, artisans, and party faithfuls.

Building on his administration's recent successful track record in road rehabilitation and security fortification, Hon. Akinwole’s latest move focuses on the individual well-being of his constituents.

"We aren’t just building roads and securing borders; we are investing in the lives of the people who make Ife East great," the Chairman stated during his address. He reiterated that his administration remains dedicated to mitigating economic challenges by ensuring the dividends of democracy reach those at the very heart of the grassroots.

The colorful ceremony, attended by dignitaries from political, monarchical, religious, and civil society spheres, signaled unified support for the "new wave" of responsible leadership brewing in Osun State under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The foundations of a new benchmark have been laid for local government administration, one where capacity building, infrastructure revitalization, and strategic poverty reduction are visible realities rather than mere promises.

Furthermore, in a significant policy announcement, the Chairman confirmed that this empowerment exercise will be a continuous monthly exercise, emphasizing that this model of governance is a direct reflection of the broader vision held by the Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) and Aare Kayode Adereti governorship ticket. The event reached a crescendo with the presence of the APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, Aare Benjamin Kayode Adereti, who described the programme as "a mere tip of the iceberg" of what is to come. "These initiatives reflect the responsive and proactive leadership the APC intends to institutionalize across every corner of Osun State," Adereti remarked, assuring the people that the upcoming AMBO-led administration is prepared to revolutionize all sectors of governance for the sole benefit of the people.

Tinubu @74 : Fadahunsi Lauds President's Inspiring Vision

Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi has extended warm birthday felicitations to President Bola Tinubu on his 74th birthday, praising his infectious passion for Nigeria's progress.

In a personally signed message, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Industries described Tinubu's leadership, vision, and dedication as truly inspiring. "Your Excellency, on behalf of my family, constituents, and the Senate committee on Industries, I wish you a happy 74th birthday," Fadahunsi wrote. "Today marks a significant milestone in your life, and I am honoured to celebrate with you."

Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, hailed Tinubu as one of Nigeria's greatest and most audacious leaders.

He spotlighted the President's long political career, marked by commitment to progressive democratic principles and courage against authoritarian regimes.

The senator acknowledged Tinubu's pivotal role in forming the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2013, which ended the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) dominance by securing victories for Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 and 2019.

"In the last three years as President, you have demonstrated astute leadership," Fadahunsi noted, crediting Tinubu's advocacy for democratic values and bold economic reforms that are beginning to yield dividends. "With you in the driving seat, Nigeria is in safe hands, and Nigerians could not have made a better choice in 2023."

Fadahunsi prayed for divine wisdom, strength, and good health for Tinubu to lead Nigeria to greater heights. "Please accept my warmest congratulations and happy birthday, Mr. President," he concluded.
