*AN OPEN LETTER TO SHEIKH AHMAD ABUBAKAR GUMI*

*A CALL TO TRUTH, JUSTICE, AND THE SALVATION FOUND ONLY IN JESUS CHRIST*
Dear Sheikh Gumi,
Greetings to you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace and the Saviour of the world. I write to you as a fellow Nigerian, a passionate lover of our country, and as one who genuinely desires the salvation of every soul, including yours.
With deep sincerity sir, I feel compelled to share my heart with you on six vital issues relating to the insecurity in Nigeria, your role in it, and how all of these relate to the eternal matters of truth, faith, and salvation.

*1. THE CRISIS OF MISUNDERSTANDING: WHO TRULY REPRESENTS ISLAM?*
For many years, Nigerians and indeed the entire world, have comforted themselves with this assumption:
“The terrorists are not true Muslims; the moderate and peaceful Muslims are the true Muslims.”
But this assumption falls to the ground the moment we open the Qur’an and Hadith.
Sir, you know better than anyone else that the groups known as “bandits,” “terrorists,” or “Boko Haram” justify their actions by quoting the very texts Muslims hold sacred. They do what they do shouting *“Allahu Akbar”* because the Quran and Hadiths command such actions.
A few examples:
*Qur’an 2:216.* –“Fighting is ordained for you, even though you dislike it…”
*Qur’an 9:5.* “Fight and slay the unbelievers…”
*Qur’an 9:29.* – “Fight the People of the Book until they pay the jizya…”
*Qur’an 8:12**– “…I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve…”
*Sahih Bukhari 6924.* “I have been commanded to fight the people until they say: La ilaha illa Allah.”
The militants do not see themselves as criminals.
They see themselves as Islamic faithful *(Al-Mutaqun)*
They believe they are obeying Allah’s commands.
They believe they are mujahideen.
To many Nigerians, it is most displeasing to see that your public advocacy often aligns more closely with their theological worldview, than with the aspirations of a peaceful and prosperous nation.
This is not an insult sir, nor spoken in anger.
It is a truth that must be confronted with sincerity.

*2. WHAT YOU CALL “NEGOTIATIONS” ARE, IN ISLAMIC LAW, NEGOTIATIONS OF JIZYA*
Sir, the pattern has been consistent:
• You travelled into the forests.
• You defended the bandits publicly.
• You urged the government to pay them.
• You insisted they should be understood, engaged, and compensated.
To the ordinary Nigerian, these are ransoms but in Islamic jurisprudence, this falls under Jizya. The Qur’anic mandate that non-Muslims must pay this *Jizya* “with willing submission and humiliation” *(Qur’an 9:29)*.
Your interventions follow this same logic:
• Payments for the release of captives
• Advocacy that the state should reward armed groups
• Arguments that these militants are “seeking justice”
*Sir, this is textbook Jizya doctrine.*
I am not accusing you of wrong motives, but pointing out that the pattern resembles the classical framework of jizya and ghanimah (b***y or spoils of war) described in many provisions of the Qur’an and Hadith.
Please sir, I say this not with hatred or bitterness, but with facts and responsibility.

*3. IF YOU LOVE NIGERIA, THEN HELP US UNCOVER THE TRUTH*
If your heart truly bleeds for this nation, then I plead with you sir:
👉 Help Nigeria uncover how military grade weapons entered the hands of the militants you visited.
You know these men.
You know their leaders.
You know the terrain.
You know the networks.
If peace is your mission, then truth must be your weapon.
Nigeria does not need more negotiations of jizya.
Nigeria needs accountability, courage, and truth.
The nation needs a cleric who will expose the pipelines of weapons, money, and ideology, not one who shields armed groups and protect their interests with sympathetic narratives.

*4. GOD HAS GIVEN YOU INFLUENCE, BUT HE IS CALLING YOU TO JESUS CHRIST*
Sheikh Gumi Sir, as an ex-Military officer, a prominent Nigerian and a prolific Islamic cleric, you are a man of remarkable influence. Millions listen when you speak, entire regions move at the rhythm of your words. But you need to align your influence with the will of God for your life.
The Allah described in the Qur’an, who sanctions fighting, subjugation, and jizya, is not the living God of heaven revealed through Jesus Christ.
The true and living God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, is calling you in mercy.
Like Saul of Tarsus in the Bible, who once justified violence in the name of God, you too can encounter the Light of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus said:
*“I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, no man (not even Sheikh Gumi) commeth to the Father but by me.” (John 14:6)*
Islamic jihad cannot save your soul.
Negotiations for Jizya cannot save your soul.
Islamic traditions cannot save your soul.
The title of “Sheikh” cannot save your soul.
Only Jesus saves and His salvation is available to save all the Terrorists, Bandits and Boko Haram members.
If you open your heart to this truth, God is more than able to save your dear soul and use you to lead many to the salvation, which only Jesus Christ can give.
*“Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)*

*5. GOD CAN USE YOU FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE*
In conclusion sir, think of how many years you may have left on earth and think of what the rest of your life would be, if you have a personal encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ. It is my sincere desire that you encounter the forgiveness, freedom, and salvation that only Jesus Christ gives.
Islam teaches that forgiveness of sin can only be obtained on the day of judgement but this is not correct, as the living God offers forgiveness of sin and peace with God while we are yet alive.
*“But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins” (Matthew 9:6)*
You have spent many years advocating for Islamic terrorists but today, Heaven is inviting you to true salvation and peace with God:
Come to Christ sir.
Come to truth sir.
Come to life sir.
Come to the One who died for you and rose up from the grave to give an assurance of salvation.
Jesus said:
*“Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)*
Jesus loves you.
Jesus is calling you.
Jesus is waiting.

*6. AFTER YOU COME TO JESUS, GOD CAN USE YOU BEYOND ANYTHING ISLAM EVER OFFERED YOU*
Only after salvation can we speak about true service to God.
Imagine this:
The very men who today carry rifles…
The very men who kidnap…
The very men who shed innocent blood…
kneeling with tears in their eyes as you, transformed by Christ, lead them to the Saviour.
Imagine that testimony of submitting their rifles in exchange for the Bible.
Imagine that miracle.
Imagine that legacy.
No man who ever persecuted the Church was beyond God’s reach, not Saul of Tarsus, not the bandits, and not you.
The love of God through Jesus Christ is available for all.
