The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) was established on the 1st of November, 1996 by virtue of the LASEPA Edict No. 9 of 1996 (now Environment Management Protection Law 2017 Part VI)). The main thrust of the Agency is to protect and improve the environment, assist public and private organizations, industries, businesses and non-governmental organizations to achieve compliance b

y providing environment-friendly solutions to varied environmental challenges. The Agency is a parastatal of the State Ministry of the Environment (MOE) and carries out its statutory functions through nine (9) Departments (7 MOE Departments with 2 non MOE departments)) with the assistance of ten (10) Units and seventeen (17) Zonal Offices. The technical Departments are involved in laboratory services, monitoring and enforcement, research and data, and regulations, among others. The functions of LASEPA impact on the activities of industries, commercial services, public and private sectors, communities and the environment at large. As an implementing organ of the State’s policies on the environment, the Agency gives preference to and works hand-in-hand with other relevant stakeholders, as well as national and international Agencies on the environment. Consequently, LASEPA works under the ambit of national, state and local government laws (on the environment), multilateral treaties, agreements, conventions and protocols entered into by the national government with respect to the environment.

The General Manager the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, was a special guest on the live television programme, Your View, aired on Television Continental (TVC).

During the interactive session, Dr. Ajayi highlighted the Agency’s mandate to protect and preserve the environment in Lagos through strategic environmental monitoring, pollution control, advocacy, and enforcement activities.

He also emphasized the deployment of air quality monitoring devices across the State aimed at strengthening environmental surveillance and enhancing pollution control mechanisms.

Furthermore, Dr. Ajayi informed viewers and residents that real-time air quality and noise pollution data can be accessed through the Agency’s official website at lasepa.gov.ng.

He reiterated the Agency’s commitment to promoting a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for all residents of Lagos State.

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) on Tuesday, 19th May, 2026, sealed off several establishments across different parts of Lagos State following repeated warnings, abatement notices, and persistent non-compliance with environmental regulations.

The enforcement exercise was carried out in response to various environmental infractions, including noise pollution, air pollution, and failure non compliance with stipulated regulations

The affected establishments include:

1. UEE & CEE Nigeria Limited, located at Ogba Road, Pẹro Bus Stop, Agege — sealed for obstruction of duty and non-compliance with the law

2. Feifan Hotel, located at 79 Oduduwa Crescent, Ikeja GRA, Lagos — sanctioned for air pollution arising from a 250KVA generator. The generator section of the premises was sealed off.

3. Blueink Apartment, located at 29 Ijaoye Street, Jibowu — sealed for noise pollution generated by a 5.0KVA generator. The generator was confiscated by LASEPA officials.

4. Hotel Beatrice, located at 27 Ijaoye Street, Jibowu — sealed for non-compliance with the Agency’s directives.

5. Shores Vincinity, located at 63 Old Yaba Road — sealed for noise pollution.

6. A residential building, located at 27 Moleye Street, Alagomeji, Yaba — sanctioned for noise pollution caused by a 50KVA generator and non-compliance with the Agency’s directives. The generator was confiscated by officials of the Agency.

7. Wonder King Hotel, located at 13 Lawani Street, Akoka, Lagos — sealed for non-compliance with the Agency’s directives.

8. Ezyy Grills, located at 47 St. Finbarr’s College Road, Akoka, Yaba — sealed for obstruction of duty and non-compliance with the Agency’s directives.

9. Ofsulvalink Hotel & Lounge, located at St. Finbarr’s College Road, Akoka, Lagos — sealed for obstruction of duty.

10. Great Impact Baptist Church, located at 20 Jossy Castro Street, Bariga — sealed for noise pollution and non-compliance with the Agency’s directives.

11. A plantain selling outlet located at Abule Ijesha, Yaba, Lagos — sanctioned for land pollution resulting from indiscriminate waste disposal and non-compliance with the Agency’s directives.

The General Manager the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, was a special guest on the live radio programme, “Know Your Agencies” aired on Lagos Traffic Radio 96.1FM.

The programme, powered by the Parastatals Monitoring Office (PMO), is designed to provide residents with deeper insights into the activities, responsibilities, and achievements of government parastatals and agencies in Lagos State.

During the interactive session, Dr. Ajayi extensively discussed the Agency’s mandates in protecting and preserving the Lagos environment through strategic environmental monitoring, pollution control, advocacy, and enforcement activities.

Speaking on environmental pollution, the General Manager explained that pollution exists in different forms including air, land, water and noise pollution. He noted that improper waste disposal, oil spills, emissions from waste trucks, and other environmental activities contributed significantly to environmental degradation. He further clarified that solid waste management falls under the responsibility of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), while Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA)focuses on environmental regulation and pollution control.

On the issue of noise pollution, the General Manager described it as one of the major environmental concerns in Lagos. He explained that noise pollution sources are broadly classified into stationary and mobile sources, including public address systems, religious centres, entertainment facilities, traffic, and industrial activities.

According to him, noise levels are measured in decibels, and residential areas are expected not to exceed 45 decibels at night and 55 decibels during the day. He added that mixed-use and commercial areas have slightly higher permissible limits due to economic and social activities associated with a growing 24-hour economy in Lagos State.
Dr. Ajayi also highlighted the Agency’s ongoing enforcement and monitoring activities aimed at reducing noise pollution across the State, particularly in residential communities affected by excessive noise from entertainment and recreational activities.

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) today participated in the Lagos Students Environmental Summit (LSES) 2026 organised by the National Association of Zoology and Environmental Biology (NAZEB), Lagos State University (LASU), under the theme: “Resilient Lagos: Youth Leadership, Climate Action & Sustainable Innovation.”

The summit, held at the MBA Hall, Lagos State University, Ojo Campus, brought together environmental stakeholders, policymakers, academics, and young leaders to discuss pressing environmental challenges facing Lagos State, including waste management, pollution control, climate action, and sustainable development.

Delivering a presentation titled “Driving Climate Action in Lagos: The Role of Government and Youth Collaboration,” the General Manager LASEPA, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, emphasized the urgent need for collective responsibility in addressing environmental and climate challenges across the state.

Dr. Ajayi who was represented by the Director, Partnership Grants and lnnovation, Mrs Olabisi Shonibare said Lagos State continues to face enormous environmental pressures due to rapid urbanisation and industrialisation, noting that over 70 percent of industries in Nigeria are located within Lagos.

He explained that LASEPA has continued to develop regulations, policies, and guidelines tailored to the peculiar environmental realities of Lagos State in order to ensure environmental safety and sustainability.

Dr. Ajayi further disclosed that LASEPA operates through 21 zonal offices across the state to effectively respond to environmental complaints and challenges, including the Ojo zonal office headed by Mrs. Mbanali Francisca, where Lagos State University is situated.

Speaking on the effects of climate change, he highlighted the increasing temperatures, flooding, rising greenhouse gas emissions, and pollution across Lagos State, stressing that human actions and inactions remain major contributors to environmental degradation.

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) today organised the 11th Noiseless Lagos Summit with the theme, “Advancing Sound Control and Technology in an Emerging Smart City,” held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja.

The summit brought together government officials, religious leaders, environmental stakeholders, students, hospitality business operators and members of the public to discuss practical solutions for tackling noise pollution and promoting a healthier and more sustainable Lagos.

As part of the event, prizes and trophies were presented to winners of the 2026 INAD Inter-District Essay Competition held on April 29, 2026. David Ayodele of Alimosho Senior Grammar School emerged overall winner, while Bello Awwal of Obele Community Senior High School came second. Onaolapo Olabiyi from LS Model Senior College and Nnajiofor Pamela of Eva Adelaja Girls Senior Secondary School emerged third and fourth respectively.

The event concluded with free hearing tests conducted for interested participants.

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) participated in the 2026 edition of World Veterinary Day, a United Nations-designated global event organized by the Lagos Branch of the National Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA).

The event, themed “Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health – The Nigerian Paradox,” was held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the NECA Hall, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

Representing the General Manager of LASEPA, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, was the Director of the Natural Resources Protection Department, Mrs. Oluwakemi Bankole, delivered LASEPA’s goodwill message and presented the second lead paper on “Environmental Barriers to Achieving One Health in Lagos.”

Mrs Bankole presentation highlighted critical environmental concerns affecting public health and stressed the need for integrated and sustainable environmental management strategies.

The Chairman of the National Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) Lagos Branch, Dr Mark Ofua who delivered the opening remarks and highlighted the objectives of the celebration.

According to him, the veterinary profession plays a pivotal role in environmental health, public safety, and serves as a key component of the “One Health” triad encompassing Human, Animal, and Environmental Health.

The event attracted distinguished guests and stakeholders from across the health, environmental, agricultural, and academic sectors.

Among the dignitaries present were the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi; the President of the World Veterinary Association, Dr. Olatunji Nassir; and renowned veterinary specialist, Dr. Bala Mohammed.

High-level delegations from several government agencies, institutions, and professional bodies also attended the event, including:
