WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY MESSAGE FROM HON. WOLE OKE

Today, I join millions of Nigerians and the global community in celebrating our teachers,the true builders of our nation’s future, and the custodians of knowledge, discipline, and values.

As someone who was earlier trained as a teacher, has also benefited immensely from the dedication of teachers and witnessed firsthand their transformative impact on lives and communities, I hold our teachers in the highest esteem.

They are my first constituency!

Their patience, resilience, and unwavering commitment, often in the face of daunting challenges, remain a shining example of selflessness and service to humanity.

Teachers are the foundation upon which every great society is built. They shape young minds, mould character, and inspire dreams that drive innovation and leadership. Without their sacrifices, no nation can truly progress or sustain development.

I also acknowledge the renewed commitment of the administration of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to revitalizing our education sector. His government’s deliberate policies aimed at improving teacher welfare, training, and digital capacity are commendable steps toward empowering those who stand at the heart of national development.

These reforms clearly demonstrate that this administration understands that no meaningful transformation can occur without motivated and well-equipped teachers.

The ongoing initiatives to enhance teacher development, remuneration, and infrastructure deserve our collective support. I urge that these efforts be sustained and strengthened, so that our teachers receive the recognition, dignity, and reward they truly deserve right here on earth.

As a legislator, I remain steadfast in supporting education-friendly policies that promote a stronger, more equitable learning environment. I also call on state governments, local authorities, and private stakeholders to continue investing in teacher welfare, capacity building, and conducive teaching environments.

To all teachers in Osun State and across Nigeria, I celebrate you. You are the unsung heroes of our nation’s progress,the torchbearers who illuminate the path to a brighter tomorrow. Do not lose faith in your noble calling. The seeds you sow daily will continue to yield fruits in the generations you nurture.

Hon. Oluwole Oke Congratulates Nigerians on 65th Independence Anniversary, Urges Patience for National Reforms

In commemoration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, Hon. Oluwole Oke, representative of Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, has extended heartfelt congratulations to all Nigerians, particularly the people of Obokun/Oriade, celebrating the nation’s resilience, unity, and achievements since independence.

Hon. Oke used the occasion to call on citizens to exhibit patience and support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, noting that the government’s ongoing reforms are designed to foster national growth, stability, and renewed hope across all sectors.

He stated, “As we mark 65 years of our nationhood, it is important for every Nigerian, especially the people of Obokun/Oriade, to appreciate the journey we have made together. ‎HON. WOLE OKE COMMENDS CHINA, CALLS FOR STRONGER SOUTH–SOUTH LEGISLATIVE COOPERATION, INVITES INVESTMENT IN NIGERIA

‎Urumqi, China – September 14, 2025

‎The Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hon. Oluwole Oke, has praised the People’s Republic of China for its leadership role in promoting South–South cooperation and creating platforms for dialogue among lawmakers from developing nations.
‎
‎Speaking at the 2025 Global South Legislators Summit in Urumqi, Hon. Oke representing Obokun Oriade Federal Constituency in the Nigeria's House of Representatives noted that China has remained a reliable partner to Africa and Nigeria in particular, citing the country’s massive investment in infrastructure, technology transfer, vocational training, and concessional financing over the years.
‎
‎He expressed appreciation for China’s continued support for African development through initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), describing them as “lifelines” that have strengthened trade, enhanced connectivity, and fostered industrial growth across the continent.
‎
‎Hon. Oke briefed lawmakers from other member nations on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s far-reaching reforms in the ease of doing business, tax administration, and economic diversification, which he said were already improving Nigeria’s business climate and attracting foreign direct investment.
‎
‎He solicited their support for Nigeria’s bid to secure a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council, stressing that Africa’s voice must be heard in decisions affecting global peace and security.
‎
‎The lawmaker also extended a warm invitation to Chinese investors to take advantage of opportunities in Nigeria’s aviation, energy, and agricultural sectors, pledging that Nigeria was open for business and ready to guarantee fair returns on investment.

‎“Global South cooperation should not be about politics alone,” Oke stated. “It must deliver economic growth, technology transfer, climate action, and prosperity for our people. Nigeria values China’s example of using innovation and long-term planning to lift millions out of poverty. We seek to learn from this model and deepen our partnership for mutual benefit.”

‎Tracing the history of South–South cooperation from the Bandung Conference of 1955 through the Non-Aligned Movement and Group of 77, Oke reminded delegates that the philosophy was built on equality, mutual respect, sovereignty, and shared development. He emphasized that today’s cooperation must go beyond political solidarity to cover trade, education, health, and climate change.

‎While acknowledging present-day achievements — including the BRICS expansion, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and vaccine production partnerships — Hon. Oke warned that trade imbalances, technology gaps, and climate vulnerability continue to threaten progress. He called for:

‎Stronger inter-parliamentary cooperation to hold governments accountable.

‎Harmonized policies to remove trade and legal barriers.

‎Enhanced oversight to ensure that agreements are transparent and people-centered.

NULGE Must Remain Non-Partisan and Focused on Public Service

The attention of my office has been drawn to disturbing reports that the Osun State Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has taken sides in politically related matters and has, in doing so, abandoned its constitutional responsibilities for several months in support of the State Government.

This development is not only unfortunate but also dangerous for our democracy, our institutions, and the ordinary citizens who rely on local government services for daily sustenance.

NULGE, by its mandate, is a non-partisan workers’ union established to defend the welfare, rights, and working conditions of local government employees across Nigeria. Its core obligation is to promote effective grassroots governance — not to become a political tool in the hands of any administration or political party.

By abandoning their duties under the guise of political alignment, members of the union risk violating:
• The Public Service Rules governing conduct and responsibility;
• The Trade Unions Act, which mandates political neutrality for public sector unions;
• The trust of the people of Osun State who depend on local councils for essential services such as sanitation, primary healthcare, education, and community development.

It is also ironic that a union that has consistently advocated for local government autonomy would now choose to act in subservience to state political interests, undermining its own long-standing credibility and purpose.

I therefore call on:
• The National Secretariat of NULGE to urgently intervene and restore order and neutrality in the Osun State Chapter;
• All local government employees to remember that their primary duty is to serve the people, not to engage in political brinkmanship.

Public service is a sacred trust. Political loyalty should never override constitutional responsibility.

Let us put the people of Osun State first — above party lines, above individual interest, and above temporary political advantage.
