ARGU UCH, ADEENI ORGANISE CAPACITY-BUILDING WORKSHOP

The Alumni, Research and Grants Unit of the University College Hospital (UCH), in collaboration with ADEENI Research Solutions, held a workshop titled “From Research Foundations to Impact: A Practical Workshop for Early, Mid and Advanced-Career Health Researchers” on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, at the Emeritus Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Multipurpose Hall.

The workshop brought together Health Researchers at various stages of their careers to strengthen their research capacity, enhance professional development, and improve their ability to generate impactful research outcomes.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Toyin Babarinde, provided insightful and practical discussions on key aspects of the research enterprise. The presentation covered:

(1.) Foundations of Research and Career Development

(2.) Navigating Funding and Grant Success

(3.) Research Systems and Grant Management

(4.) Publication and Research Impact

Participants benefited from expert guidance on building successful research careers, securing research funding, managing grants effectively, and increasing the visibility and impact of their scholarly work. The workshop also provided an opportunity for networking, knowledge sharing, and collaboration among researchers from diverse disciplines.

The Chief Medical Director of UCH, Professor Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, represented by the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Prof. Olubukola Adesina in his opening remarks stated that "Research remains the bedrock of innovation, evidence based practice and sustainable advancement in healthcare. As a foremost tertiary health institution, the University College Hospital, Ibadan has maintained a rich tradition of excellence in clinical care, training and research. "This workshop is therefore timely and highly relevant as it seems to strengthen the research capacity of participants and enhance their ability to attract competitive grants for impactful studies", the CMD stated.

PERIOPERATIVE NURSING SCHOOL AND ENDOSCOPY UNIT UCH, ORGANISES MAIDEN WORKSHOP.

The Perioperative Nursing School and Endoscopy Unit of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, organised the maiden edition of the Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Surgery workshop for registered nurses.
The workshop is scheduled to hold from 9th to 11th June 2026 at the Prof. Emeritus Theophilus Ogunlesi Multipurpose Hall, UCH, Ibadan.

The Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Prof. Olubukola Adesina, who was represented by the Deputy CMAC (Research and Ethics), Dr. Sesan Oluwasola, said that the workshop was very critical at this time, as most of the procedures carried out lead to endoscopic surgery.

He emphasised the need to strengthen stakeholders’ capacity through training and workshops for healthcare providers and to ensure our equipment are well maintained.

The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, represented by the DCMAC on Education and Training, Prof. Olusola Ibiyemi, said that the practice of modern medicine is rapidly evolving and technological advancements have significantly transformed the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. He further said that endoscopy and minimally invasive surgical procedures have become indispensable components of contemporary healthcare because they offer patients safer procedures, shorter hospital stays, faster recovery periods, reduced postoperative pain, and improved clinical outcomes. However, nurses play a critical role throughout the perioperative journey of patients, and their expertise contributes significantly to patients safety, efficiency, and successful treatment outcomes.
The CMD further explained that the University College Hospital remained committed to fostering excellence in clinical care, education, research, and capacity building. He said UCH would continue to support initiatives that would strengthen the competence and professionalism of healthcare workers.

UCH/UI HOLDS MAIDEN MATRICULATION FOR PIONEER BNSC NURSING STUDENTS.

The School of Nursing, University College Hospital Ibadan, in affiliation with the University of Ibadan, held the first matriculation ceremony for newly admitted students of the BNSc degree programme for the 2025/2026 academic session at Hall 2 of the School of Nursing, UCH, Ibadan, on Thursday, 4th June 2026.

In her opening speech, the Principal of the School of Nursing, Dr. Adenike Olaniyi, stated that the school’s affiliation with the University of Ibadan signified not just the beginning of admission but a transformational milestone in the life of the School of Nursing and the matriculants. She also advised the students to be more disciplined and focus on their academic journey.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Kayode Oyebode Adebowale FAS, mni, in his speech, stated " that this was the first affiliation with University of Ibadan for School of Nursing UCH Ibadan. " It is a historic event for both UI and UCH in the pursuit of academic excellence and healthcare delivery.

He further stated, "This milestone is just the beginning of your academic journey. "To succeed in your academic journey, you need determination, obedience, patience, integrity, discipline, honesty, excellence, and hard work, which are the hallmarks of graduation at the University of Ibadan."

The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, represented by Prof. Olusola Ibiyemi, (DCMAC) on Education and Training, warmly welcomed everyone to the historic 2025/2026 Matriculation Ceremony. He said, the commencement of the BNSC affiliation programme is a natural progression in the continuous pursuit of academic and professional advancement in nursing education.

The CMD encouraged the matriculants to take their studies seriously, respect constituted authorities, embrace discipline, and make the best use of the excellent academic and clinical resources available to students at UI and UCH, Ibadan.

He further said that, UCH Ibadan, the premier teaching hospital, remains steadfast in its commitment to excellence in patient care, research, training, and service delivery.

Delegates from Glocient Hospitality Limited made a courtesy call to the Management of the hospital at the Office of the Chief Medical Director on June 1, 2026.

The General Manager, Mr. Lanre Balogun, stated in his remarks that "the purpose of the visit was to formally introduce Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort and Conference Centre and to discuss opportunities for mutually beneficial collaboration between the hospital and the resort."

CULAN PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO MANAGEMENT

The Congenital Upper Limb Anomally Network (CULAN) Nigeria paid a courtesy visit to the management of the hospital on 2nd June, 2026 in the hospital’s boardroom.

The Principal Investigator, Prof. Afieharo Michael, said the purpose of the visit was to formally introduce members of the CULAN Nigeria team and to officially intimate the management about the improved care for children with anomalies with the introduction of the "Global Birth Defect App" that was officially launched in Nigeria and sponsored by the American Foundation for Surgery of the Hand.

The "Defect App" is set to give high quality care for children with anomalies , strengthening capacity for upper and lower limb care and the collaborative effort in transforming lives.

Pro. Michael also stated that the aim of CULAN is to bring together healthcare providers that care for children with anomalies, pilot a team to identify children with congenital anomalies, and document children with congenital anomalies. She further said that CULAN’s vision is to provide equitable and high-quality care for children with congenital anomalies.

The Principal Investigator further stated that CULAN was pioneered at UCH Ibadan, with its principal place of operation in the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, UCH Ibadan, and is funded by the American Foundation for Surgery of the Hand.

The Head of Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery of the hospital, Prof. Olayinka Olawoye, said the initiative started at UCH Ibadan and expressed hope that it would spread across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.

The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, congratulated DIPRAS and CULAN on meriting the grant, which he described as a testament to their hard work. He further appreciated CULAN for putting UCH Ibadan on the world map.

AHAPN PAYS COURTESY CALL TO MANAGEMENT.

The Association of Hospital Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria, UCH Ibadan Chapter, paid a courtesy visit to the management of UCH on 2nd June, 2026 at the hospital’s boardroom.

The Chairman of the Association, Dr. Moses Ajayi, said the purpose of the visit was to appreciate the hospital's managemet for the refurbishment of the Pharmacy Department, the appointment of pharmacy consultants, and other facilities put in place, to make work easier for members of staff.

Dr. Ajayi further applauded the CMD as the ,Pacesetter for his responsiveness towards Staff Welfare.

The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, in his response, warmly welcomed the team for their visit. He stated that, " his administration would continue to prioritise staff welfare to enable them to perform their duties effectively, which is in line with his administration's catch phrase, " Patient comfort and Staff Welfare" . He pledged the management’s support to improve the work force of the department.
