Oyo Govt Releases 2026 JSS Placement Screening Results

The Oyo State Government has announced the release of the results of the 2026 Placement Screening Exercise into Junior Secondary Schools across the State.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, directed Head Teachers and other relevant stakeholders to liaise with the Local Inspectors of Education (LIEs) in their respective Local Government Areas to collect the results of their pupils.

The Commissioner stated that the release of the results marked another important step in ensuring a smooth and transparent transition of pupils from primary schools into the next level of their education. He reaffirmed the commitment of the State Government to providing a fair, credible and efficient placement process for pupils across the State.

While congratulating all successful candidates, Olayiwola urged them to remain focused and committed to their studies as they transition into Junior Secondary School One (JSS1) for the 2026/2027 academic session.

He also encouraged the pupils to embrace the new phase of their education with seriousness, discipline and determination, assuring them that their continued dedication to learning would contribute significantly to their academic success.

OYO GOVT REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO QUALITY EDUCATION AS SCHOOLS RESUME

As schools resume for the first term of the 2026/2027 academic session, the Oyo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the quality of education and learning outcomes across public and private schools in the state.

In his welcome-back message to students, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, on behalf of Governor Seyi Makinde, urged students to approach the new academic session with renewed focus, discipline and dedication to their studies.

The Commissioner also charged teachers to uphold professionalism, punctuality and commitment to duty, stressing the importance of proper lesson planning, regular classroom attendance and exemplary conduct.

Parents and guardians were equally encouraged to take an active role in their children's education by monitoring their academic progress, providing necessary learning materials, instilling discipline and maintaining communication with teachers and school authorities.

Hon. Olayiwola described the first term as a crucial foundation for the academic year and called on all stakeholders to work together to achieve improved academic performance and the overall development of learners.

He also urged proprietors of private schools to comply strictly with the approved academic calendar and guidelines of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in order to maintain standards across the state's education sector.

OYO GOVT MARKS 2026 WORLD PHYSIOTHERAPY DAY

…Urges Residents to Embrace Physical Activity to Prevent Cardiovascular Diseases, Stroke

The Oyo State Government has joined the rest of the world to mark the 2026 World Physiotherapy Day, urging residents to embrace regular physical activity as a key part of preventing, managing and rehabilitating cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

The event, held at the Pavilion, Staff Clinic, Secretariat, Ibadan, had as its theme: “The Role of Physiotherapy and Physical Activity in the Prevention, Management and Rehabilitation of Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke.”

Representing the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Akintunde Ayinde, noted that cardiovascular diseases and stroke remain major causes of illness, disability and death globally. She stressed that many of these conditions can be prevented or better managed through healthy lifestyles, early detection and regular physical activity.

The Commissioner highlighted the important role of physiotherapists in identifying individuals at risk, designing safe and personalised exercise routines, supporting early intervention and helping stroke survivors regain mobility, balance, independence and quality of life.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Anifat Ibraheem, said cardiovascular diseases and stroke are no longer conditions associated only with old age, as sedentary lifestyles, poor diet, stress and hypertension continue to increase the risk among Nigerians.

She reaffirmed the commitment of the Hospitals Management Board to improving infrastructure, providing modern equipment, promoting professional engagement and supporting the continuous development of physiotherapists across health facilities in the state.

The event featured a morning jogging and aerobic exercise session led by physiotherapists, reinforcing the call for residents to “sit less, move more” and make physical activity a regular part of daily life.

Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Oyo Govt Move to Domesticate Women Economic Empowerment Policy

The Oyo State Government has commenced moves to domesticate the Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy, aimed at institutionalising the inclusion of women in government policies, programmes, budgeting and economic opportunities across the State.

The initiative, being implemented by the Oyo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion in collaboration with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), seeks to strengthen women’s participation in key sectors of the economy and ensure that government interventions adequately respond to their needs.

The five-day exercise, which commenced on Monday, September 7, 2026, is led by Prof. Olabisi Aina, a professor of sociology and specialist in gender development.

The first two days focus on engagements with Commissioners, Directors and other critical stakeholders across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to assess how women are currently reflected in government policies, programmes and interventions.

From September 9 to 11, stakeholders will hold a three-day technical session at the Ibadan Business School, Old Bodija, to deliberate on the findings, review the policy document and validate recommendations towards its domestication in Oyo State.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaja Joke Fausat Saani, said the policy would take women’s economic empowerment beyond the traditional activities of the Ministry and make it a shared responsibility of all MDAs.

She stressed that women’s interests must be mainstreamed into government planning, budgeting and programmes across sectors such as agriculture, education, employment and solid minerals, including deliberate consideration for women living with disabilities and other persons with special needs.

Also speaking, Prof. Olabisi Aina said the policy was not intended to create another programme for the Ministry of Women Affairs, but to ensure that every MDA deliberately considers how women will benefit from its policies, programmes and budgets.

The process is expected to culminate in a stakeholders’ workshop and validation of findings before the policy is finalised and domesticated.

The domestication of the WEE Policy is expected to provide a sustainable framework for expanding women’s access to resources, capital, economic opportunities and decision-making spaces across Oyo State.

OYRLEA, OYRTMA IMPOUND FIVE TRUCKS IN CLEARANCE OPERATION ON NEW IFE ROAD ..Authorities warn truck owners against road obstruction and traffic disruption...

The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA), in collaboration with the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) and security operatives, today carried out a clearance enforcement operation around Olubadan Estate, New Ife Road, Ibadan.

The operation followed complaints of indiscriminate parking of trucks and trailers along the road, which obstructed free flow of traffic and caused considerable inconvenience to motorists and other road users.

During the exercise, the joint enforcement team impounded five (5) trucks. The batteries of ten (10) other trucks found in violation were also disabled as part of enforcement measures.

The action is aimed at restoring order and ensuring that roads and other public spaces remain accessible to all road users.

OYRLEA warned truck drivers and owners across Oyo State against indiscriminate parking on roads, road shoulders, and other areas that obstruct traffic or endanger road users.

The Authority stressed that the enforcement should serve as a clear warning to those whose activities constitute obstruction or create traffic-related challenges for members of the public.

OYRLEA therefore urged all truck drivers and owners to comply with traffic regulations and desist from indiscriminate parking. It added that anyone found violating the law would face appropriate enforcement action.

The operation underscores the commitment of OYRLEA, OYRTMA, and other relevant agencies to maintaining law and order, promoting safe road usage, and protecting the rights of all road users across Oyo State.

Amotekun, NDLEA Forge Stronger Alliance to Tackle Drug Abuse in Oyo

The Oyo State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps (OYSSNA) has strengthened its partnership with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to tackle drug abuse and its associated security challenges across communities in Oyo State.

The partnership was reinforced during a one-day sensitization program organized by the NDLEA for Amotekun operatives, focusing on drug abuse prevention, identification of substance-related risks, responsible conduct, and community-based approaches to building drug-free communities.

The Oyo State Commandant of Amotekun, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (rtd.), represented by the Director of Finance and Accounts, Mrs. Adigun Yetunde, appreciated the NDLEA for the initiative and stressed the importance of continuous training and capacity building for personnel.

He noted that a better understanding of substance abuse would enable Amotekun operatives to recognize emerging risks, respond appropriately and contribute more effectively to prevention efforts within their communities.

The Staff Officer, Drug Integrity Test, NDLEA Oyo State Command, Superintendent of Narcotics O. A. Achichi, emphasised that the fight against drug abuse requires collective action involving security agencies, families, schools, community leaders and other stakeholders.

He urged Amotekun personnel to maintain professionalism when handling suspected drug-related cases, stressing that **suspicion should not be treated as proof. Personnel were encouraged to observe, verify and properly document information before referring cases requiring specialised attention to the NDLEA or other competent agencies.

During the technical session, NDLEA Staff Officer, Prevention and Sensitisation, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Peter Akinbode, highlighted factors that can contribute to substance use, including peer influence, curiosity, stress, trauma, unemployment, social pressure, emotional pain and easy access to drugs.

He introduced the S.A.F.E.R. response model—See, Assess, Facilitate Safety, Escalate Appropriately, Record and Refer as a guide for professional responses to drug-related situations.

The collaboration underscores the shared commitment of Amotekun and the NDLEA to strengthening community safety, improving professional responses to drug-related concerns, and promoting healthier, drug-free communities across Oyo State.

Makinde Reaffirms Support for Peace-Building Faith Institutions

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting religious institutions that promote **peace, unity and development** across the state.

Governor Makinde stated this on Saturday at the celebration of the 120th anniversary of First Baptist Church, Idikan, Ibadan, where he congratulated the church and the Nigerian Baptist Convention on the historic milestone.

Describing First Baptist Church, Idikan, as a historic institution of faith, the governor commended its leadership, pastors, and members for their contributions to the spiritual and moral development of Oyo State, as well as their commitment to community service and nation-building over the last 120 years.

He said, "I congratulate First Baptist Church, Idikan, on the celebration of 120 years. My prayer is that the glory of the next 120 years will surpass the past 120 years. Thank you, and God bless you.”

During the celebration, the President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Rev’d Dr David Olushola Idowu, presented an award to Governor Makinde and appreciated him for honouring the church with his presence and for donating a Hummer bus to support the propagation of the gospel.

Special prayers were also offered for Governor Makinde, Oyo State, and Nigeria.

The celebration was attended by former President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention and former National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev’d (Dr) Samson Supo Ayokunle; President, Ibadan Baptist Conference, Rev’d (Dr) Oyekola Bamidele; Minister in Charge of First Baptist Church, Rev’d (Dr) Solomon Oyelami; Chief ’Niyi Akintola, SAN; and other dignitaries.

Gov. Makinde Approves 32-Seater, 18-Seater Buses for Shooting Stars

The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has approved the immediate release of two buses, a 32-seater and an 18-seater, to Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan to support the club’s activities.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, he said the gesture came on the heels of Shooting Stars’ impressive victory over CS Sfaxien of Tunisia in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round tie played at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta

According to him, the approval underscores the state government’s commitment to supporting the Oluyole Warriors as they represent Oyo State on the continental stage.

Shooting Stars’ participation in the current continental competition marks the club’s first appearance in a continental competition in 27 years.

Prince Oyelade said Governor Makinde had assured the club’s supporters and fans that the state government would continue to provide the necessary support to enable Shooting Stars remain in contention for continental honours.

He said the government is determined not only to sustain the club’s current momentum but also to restore the old glory of the “Darling Club of Oyo State.”

The Commissioner urged the players, technical crew and management of Shooting Stars to remain focused and committed, assuring them of the continued support of the state government

OYRLEA Commences Mobile Court Enforcement at Bodija Market, Arraigns Offenders Over Illegal Street Trading

The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has commenced a mobile court enforcement exercise at Bodija Market, Ibadan, as part of renewed efforts to restore order, protect public spaces and ensure compliance with laws regulating activities in public places.

The exercise led to the arraignment of several persons accused of displaying and selling goods on roads, pedestrian walkways, drainage channels and other unauthorised public spaces.

The mobile court, presided over by Her Worship, Magistrate Olaniyan Folake Rachael, considered the cases brought before it. Some defendants were sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, with an option of ₦30,000 fine, while others were granted bail of ₦200,000 with one surety each. Cases involving defendants granted bail were adjourned to September 11, 2026 for hearing.

Speaking at the scene on behalf of the Chairperson of OYRLEA, Hon. Justice Aderonke Adekemi Aderemi (Rtd.), the Chief of Staff to the Chairperson, Kofoworola Akinbode, Esq., said the mobile court deployment was necessary to restore sanity to market environments and reinforce the Authority’s commitment to upholding the rule of law.

She noted that the exercise followed sustained sensitisation campaigns and previous enforcement operations, stressing that where violations persist, appropriate enforcement measures would be applied.

The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public spaces and promoting a safe, orderly and conducive environment for residents, traders, pedestrians and motorists.

Some market users also expressed support for the exercise, noting that indiscriminate display of goods on roads and walkways obstructs movement and creates safety concerns.

OYRLEA reiterated that its approach will continue to combine sensitisation, enforcement and, where necessary, judicial action to promote a safer and more orderly environment across the State.
