The Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development Dr Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, has condoled with Governor Dauda Lawal and family of Alh Musa Lawal Dare, a Elder brother to Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal over the loss of his daughter, Aisha Musa Lawal Dare, who passed away on Thursday at a Hospital, in Kano.

Dr Nafisa Muhammad Maradun prayed for the peaceful repose of the late Aisha and prayed to God to grant the family the strength to bear the painful exit of their daughter..

Among the entourage of the Commissioner were Permanent Secretary, Ministry's Dr Habibu Yalwa and all Directors, and some staff of the Ministry.

WORKER’S WELFARE: GOV. LAWAL CLEARS N9 BILLION OWED GRATUITY TO ZAMFARA RETIREES

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has settled N9,357,743,281.35 as payment for gratuities owed to Zamfara workers since 2011.

The governor approved the commencement of the payment of the backlog of gratuities in February this year.

In a statement issued in Gusau on Saturday, the governor's spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, revealed that the government had paid retired state workers N4,860,613,699.22 in nine batches.

The statement added that a total sum of N4,497,129,582.13 has been settled for the local government workers.

He said: “In his commitment to reform the Zamfara state civil service, in February, Governor Lawal established a committee to verify and authenticate the Zamfara State pensioners who had not been paid gratuities since 2011.

“So far, 2,666 out of the 3,880 verified pensioners have been paid their total gratuity entitlements, amounting to N4,860,613,699.22, out of the total amount owed by previous administrations. These payments have been made to beneficiaries who retired between 2015 and 2024.

“On the other hand, 3,840 out of 4804 verified retired Local Government and Primary School Teachers have so far been paid in nine (9) batches to the tune of N4,497,129,582.13. The Local Government Gratuity outstanding total payable arrears was N5,688,230,607.20, of which N4,497,129,582.13 has been paid to date. The beneficiaries of the payments are those who retired between 2011- 2021.

“In summary, therefore, the state has so far paid a combined total of N9,357,743,281.35 as gratuity out of the cumulative sum of N13,784,179,513.80 owed by the state to a total number of 6,506 verified retired beneficiaries out of the 8,684 the total verified retired beneficiaries. The beneficiaries of the payments are those who retired between 2011- 2024.”

ZAMFARA STATE GOVERNMENT HAS REITERATED IT'S COMMITMENT ON PROMOTING CHILD PROTECTION & SAFEGUARDING.

Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development announced this at a workshop in Gusau on the Validation of the Implementation Strategy (ISP) for the Child Protection Law organised by the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with UNICEF.

According to Dr. Nafisa Maradun, Zamfara State was the first in the nation to have a 2024–2027 Child Protection Law Implementation Plan adding that "Setting the stage for empirical data collecting and rights action in Nigeria was the goal."

She thanked His Excellency Governor Dauda Lawal for his special concern on matters related to Children, Women and Persons with Disability in the state.

She also commended the UNICEF, Save The Children International and other development partners for their immense support for the actualisation of the Zamfara State Child Protection Law and its Implementation Strategy.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Habibu Yalwa appreciated the participants from the various Ministries, Departments, Agencies and NGO's for their contributions in the successful Validation of the Implementation Strategy for the State.

In her closing remarks highlighted and applauded the efforts of the State Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun describing the efforts as worthy of commendation.

The UNICEF Child Protection Specialist Pius Uwamanua expressed optimism that the Zamfara State Child Protection Law would significantly improve the well-being of children in the State.

TO IMPROVE ELECTRICITY SUPPLIES FOR THE BENEFIT OF ORPHANS AT GUSAU ORPHANAGE HOME, THE ZAMFARA STATE GOVERNMENT HAS INSTALLED A BRAND-NEW 33 KVA TRANSFORMER.

Inspecting the newly installed transformer, the Commissioner for Women, Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun thanked the state Governor, Dr. Dauda Lawal for his consistent support for orphans, women and underprivileged individuals in the state.

She advised the children in the orphanage home to continue praying for the Governor Lawal administration's success in carrying out his rescue mission agenda.

Speaking during the visit, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Habibu Yalwa assured the orphans of Government's continued support for their welfare and well-being.

The Commissioner was accompanied by directors & other officials of the Ministry during the inspection visit.
