REMARKS BY THE CHAIRMAN, INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION (INEC), PROF. MAHMOOD YAKUBU, AT A MEETING WITH THE RESIDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSIONERS (RECs) HELD AT THE INEC CONFERENCE ROOM, ABUJA, ON SATURDAY 4TH MARCH 2023

National Commissioners
Our Resident Electoral Commissioners
The Secretary to the Commission
The Director General of the Electoral Institute
Directors and other Senior Officials of the Commission
Members of the INEC Press Corps
Ladies and Gentlemen

1. This is our 3rd meeting in less than two months. Like the last two meetings, the purpose is to discuss the conduct of the 2023 General Election. Arising from the Presidential and National Assembly elections held a week ago, and with the Governorship and State Assembly elections holding next week, it is imperative to review performance and assess preparations.

2. No doubt, last week’s national elections raised a number of issues that require immediate, medium, and long-term solutions. The planning for the election was painstakingly done. However, its implementation came with challenges, some of them unforeseen. The issues of logistics, election technology, behaviour of some election personnel at different levels, attitude of some party agents and supporters added to the extremely challenging environment in which elections are usually held in Nigeria.

3. We appreciate the sacrifice and doggedness of Nigerians and the dignity and maturity displayed by political leaders even in the context of divergent views about the election. A lot of lessons have been learnt. Of immediate concern to the Commission is how the identified challenges can be addressed as we approach the concluding phase of the General Election involving the largest number of constituencies i.e. 28 State Governorship elections and 993 State Houses of Assembly seats.

4. In last Saturday’s elections, winners have also been declared for 423 national legislative seats while supplementary elections will be held in 46 constituencies. In t

The PDP in Osun State has suspended political activities for the week over the tragic passing of Ifeanyi Adeleke, the son of award-winning global music icon, Davido.

PDP Caretaker Chairman in the state, Adekunle Akindele in a condolence message to the Adeleke family described the incident as a very sad occurrence.

Meanwhile, PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his counterparts in the APC, Bola Tinubu, and Labour Party, Peter Obi, have sent condolence messages to Davido over the death of his son, Ifeanyi. The three-year-old reportedly drowned in a swimming pool at his father’s residence in the Banana Island area of Lagos State on Monday.

UPDATE ON DAVIDO’S SON, IFEANYI'S PAINFUL D£ATH

According to a source close to the heartbreaking incident, the Nanny was with Ifeanyi and the Chef came to join them. The Nanny was said to have moved slightly away to receive a call. When she returned, she couldn’t find Ifeanyi and assumed he was with the Chef but the Chef said he had left Ifeanyi with her. They began to frantically look for Ifeanyi all over the house for close to 20 mins until a security guard spotted him in the pool.

No one could explain how the boy got in the pool.

Davido and Chioma were said to have returned from their trip to the devastating news.

"Davido ran mad. He literally tore his clothes and wanted to run into the streets. He was held back. He and Chioma are inconsolable."

The boy's body has since been taken to the mortuary and there are indications that an autopsy will be done to determine the cause of death.

Friends, staff and colleagues of the singer have been banned from visiting Davido at his father's house where he and Chioma are holed up.

Gov. Chukwuma Soludo on Wednesday inaugurated the newly constituted Local Government Service Commission in Anambra.

Soludo, who performed the ceremony at the Governor’s Lodge, charged members of the Commission to reposition the sector.

“We want to go back to the Local Government system because it has not been anywhere near where its supposed to be,” he said.

Soludo said he envisaged a local government that would deliver effective service to the people in terms of structure and being the representative in the grassroots.

He said development of the State would not be driven by the state government alone, but also by active participation of the local government system such that markets and other institutions had roles to play.

The governor said that he was pleased to inaugurate the team, as members were carefully selected based on experience and knowledge.

“The JAAC committee has a limited technical job which is simply to manage joint domiciled accounts. That’s their important and technical responsibility.

“In matters of appointment, promotion and transfer; the entire system of the Local Government needs to work, and that lies with you.

“We are determined to invigorate and delegate responsibilities to the local governments so that they can be more responsible from waste management and a host of others.

“Congratulations and commiserations, to manage in difficult times when resources are lean because of the weight of the job that awaits you,” he said.

The committee is chaired by Chief Ifeanyi Ezeaka, with Mr Azubuike Okoye, Mr Edwin Okafor, Prof. Ngozi Ewuim, Mrs Anthonia.

ADDRESS BY HIS EXCELLENCY, MUHAMMADU BUHARI, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, AT THE 3RD YEAR MINISTERIAL PERFORMANCE REVIEW RETREAT HELD
AT THE STATE HOUSE CONFERENCE CENTRE,
ABUJA ON 17TH OCTOBER, 2022

It gives me great pleasure to welcome everyone to the 3rd Year and my last Ministerial Performance Review Retreat organised to evaluate the level of progress made in the implementation of the Nine Priority Agenda of this Administration.

I am particularly delighted to welcome His Excellency, Uhuru Kenyatta, the immediate past President of the Republic of Kenya and members of his delegation, and specially thank him for honouring our invitation to be the Keynote Speaker at this Retreat. We look forward to hearing about your experience especially around the last months prior to the handover to your successor.

This Retreat is organised at a time when we have commenced political activities and campaigns for the forthcoming general elections in the 1st Quarter of 2023. It therefore, provides an opportunity for us as a Government to reflect on the progress made so far, review the status of implementation of the Policies, Programmes and Projects of Government in line with the collective aspirations of our people as well as identify areas that need urgent intervention.

An exercise like this, will ensure that we maintain the right trajectory before the end of May, 2023, in order to achieve the promises we made to the Nigerian people, at the inception of this Administration.

I am glad to note that, over the past three years, Ministries have continued to navigate the challenging times to ensure the implementation of Policies, Programmes and Projects in the Ministerial Mandates signed by Ministers and Permanent Secretaries in 2019.

The implementation of the laudable policy thrust of this Administration is periodically tracked, reviewed and analysed by the Central Delivery Coordination Unit through quarterly performance reports of the 29 Ministries includin

DUBAI, Oct 11 (Reuters ) - A "flying car" built by Chinese electronic vehicle maker Xpeng Inc (9868.HK) made its first public flight in the United Arab Emirates, as the company works towards launching the electric aircraft on international markets.

The X2 is a two-seater electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft that is lifted by eight propellers - two at each corner of the vehicle.

Monday's unmanned, 90-minute test flight in Dubai was described by its manufacturer as an "important base for the next generation of flying cars."
