REJOINDER TO MISLEADING RUMOURS ON THE PURPORTED SALE OF ENUGU STATE WATER CORPORATION
The attention of the Management of the Enugu State Water Corporation has been drawn to rumours and misleading reports in some quarters suggesting that the Enugu State Government intends to sell the Enugu State Water Corporation.
Management wishes to state categorically that this claim is false, misleading and without any basis whatsoever.
The public notice recently issued by the Enugu State Ministry of Finance and Economic Development inviting bids for the purchase of unserviceable movable assets belonging to various government establishments, including the Enugu State Water Corporation, has apparently been misconstrued by some persons as an indication that the Corporation itself is being offered for sale.
For the avoidance of doubt, the notice is strictly for the disposal of identified unserviceable movable assets and does not, in any way, constitute or imply the sale, privatisation, concession or transfer of ownership of the Enugu State Water Corporation.
Indeed, the ongoing investments and interventions of the administration of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Governor of Enugu State, in the water sector clearly demonstrate the Government's commitment to repositioning the Corporation and restoring sustainable and reliable water supply across the State.
Consequently, the public is advised to disregard the rumour that the Enugu State Water Corporation is being sold. There is no such sale contemplated in the public notice issued by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development.
Management remains committed to its mandate and will continue to work with the Enugu State Government and other stakeholders towards achieving the administration's vision of a functional, efficient and sustainable public water supply system in Enugu State.
The public is further encouraged to rely on official communications from the Enugu State Government and the Enugu State Water Corporation for accurate information and to avoid the circulation of unverified reports capable of causing unnecessary apprehension among citizens.
