Just in ....Today, at the South East Zonal Congress of our great party, the APC, we elected a new eight-member Zonal Executive by consensus, a clear demonstration of our unity, maturity, and shared resolve as a political family.

As I stated in my remarks, our presence and the sheer number of people in attendance were a testament to the undeniable truth that the APC in the South East is solid.

Despite the predictions of naysayers who expected our congresses to end in division, we have emerged stronger, more cohesive, and more determined than ever.

As I also noted, our peaceful and successful ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses underscore our collective determination to re-elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu come 2027. I commend the President for his audacious and expedient reforms, which have set Nigeria firmly on the path of sustainable economic growth.

As we look ahead to the National Convention, let us sustain this spirit of brotherhood and unity. Beyond these congresses, we must continue to demonstrate that the South East APC is not only growing, but also a model of internal cohesion and progressive politics.

Yesterday, I had the honour of unveiling the reconstructed Hotel Presidential, a landmark built 62 years ago under the visionary leadership of Dr. Michael Okpara as a symbol of our resilience, elegance, and enterprise.

For about 15 years, this glorious edifice stood in ruin, an affront to our pride. When we came into office, we made a strong pledge to recover what belongs to our people, to convert dormant assets into productive assets, and to turn liabilities into engines of growth.

That is why this unveiling is more than opening the doors of a hotel; it is the reopening of Enugu’s confidence. It is a tangible sign that when we say Enugu is open for business, we mean business.

The standards we insisted on for this revamp are truly world-class, because when Enugu says “welcome” to its investors, our hospitality infrastructure must speak with the same credibility as our policies.

Together with the International Conference Centre, the 345-room ICC Hotel under construction, and Enugu Air, this project positions Enugu as the Conferencing Capital of Africa and a hub for tourism, investment, and opportunity.

I thank Amber Hospitality for believing in Enugu’s potential and bringing on board their enviable pedigree earned through the management of about 12 successful brands in the hospitality sector.

I also commend Dilworth, our contractors, for their attention to detail, as well as the Commissioners of Works and Infrastructure and of Culture and Tourism who worked to realise this project.

This is not just about a hotel. It is about confidence, jobs, pride, and the spirit of a people who know that tomorrow is here.

I’m profoundly saddened by the death of the music icon, Gentleman Mike Ejeagha.

Mike Ejeagha was a legend, a cultural ambassador, and a revered son of Enugu State. He was one of the finest musicians of his generation, with an easygoing personality and a humility that belied his towering celebrity status. His fan-base transcended boundaries, and he was easily one of the most recognizable voices in music.

Ejeagha’s immense talent and genius lay in how he took simple indigenous folktales and turned them into unforgettable songs that resonate across cultures.

I will always cherish fond memories of the time spent in his company – the warmth and wisdom he radiated; the joy he found in the ordinary.

His death leaves a huge void that will be difficult to fill. But the legacies he has left behind will last a lifetime. This is a loss not only for his immediate family; it is a profound loss for Enugu State, the entire music community, and the nation as a whole.

On behalf of the Enugu State Government, I offer heartfelt condolences to the Ejeagha family and assure them of our support. As a government, we will ensure that his memory is duly immortalized. Above all, I pray that his family experiences the comforting grace of God’s love, and the fortitude to bear the loss.

Rest in peace, Gentleman Mike Ejeagha.

Today, during the Holy Mass at the Government House Chapel, Enugu, we reflected on the significance of Ash Wednesday and the Lenten season, a time of forgiveness, penitence, charity, empathy, and sacrifice.

As Christians, this 40-day journey is a call to spiritual renewal, a moment to forgive, love, and extend kindness to one another. This year’s Lent holds even greater significance as it coincides with Ramadan, another sacred period of fasting and devotion for our Muslim brothers and sisters. It is a profound reminder of our shared values and a call to unity and peace in our country.

Lent is not just about abstinence but also about deepening our faith through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. As Rev. Fr. Anthony Udeh reminded us in his homily, it is a season for purification and reconnecting with God, an opportunity to show love to those around us.

I urge Ndi Enugu and Nigerians at large to embrace these values not just for this season but as a way of life. Let us make sacrifice, moderation, and empathy part of our daily interactions, ensuring that the spirit of Lent continues beyond these 40 days.

At today’s mass, we also prayed for our state and nation, trusting that God will continue to guide us towards peace, progress, and prosperity.

Today, we received a generous donation of four vehicles from Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing to the Enugu State Security Trust Fund, further strengthening our capacity to fight crime and secure our investment climate. I deeply appreciate Chief Innocent Chukwuma and the entire Innoson team for their commitment to our shared vision of a prosperous Enugu.

It is encouraging to see manufacturers thriving and contributing to our collective progress. As Chief Chukwuma noted, businesses in Enugu are now happy, with improved security and better infrastructure making the state more conducive for investment. We are sustaining this momentum by enhancing security, expanding infrastructure, and providing critical support such as gas for industries to address power challenges.

The recent fundraising dinner, which raised over N3 billion for the Security Trust Fund, and today’s donation from Innoson reaffirm that partnerships work. Our commitment remains to make Enugu the premier destination for investment and economic opportunities, where businesses flourish and our people prosper. These vehicles will be put to good use in keeping our state safe, and we will not relent in driving the progress we have envisioned.

Today, I presented the 2025 budget proposal titled Budget of Exponential Growth and Inclusive Prosperity to the Enugu State House of Assembly. This N971 billion budget represents our commitment to transforming Enugu into one of the top three states in Nigeria by GDP while eradicating poverty in our communities. It is a bold and deliberate step towards achieving exponential growth and inclusive prosperity for Ndi Enugu.

The proposed budget is structured to prioritise capital expenditure at N837.9 billion, constituting 86% of the total budget, while recurrent expenditure stands at N133.1 billion, representing only 14%. This marks an 86.4% increase from the 2024 budget and underscores our determination to sustain and amplify our development agenda.

Education remains at the forefront of our priorities, as it forms the bedrock of a knowledge-based economy and a tool to eradicate poverty. To this end, we have allocated N320.6 billion, which accounts for 33.2% of the total budget. Beyond education, healthcare will receive N45.8 billion to ensure quality service delivery, while N213.1 billion has been earmarked for infrastructure development, with a focus on upgrading roads and public works.

We recognise the critical role of agriculture in curbing food inflation. That is why we have set aside N82.3 billion to boost food production and agro-industrialisation. Additionally, N41.1 billion will be deployed to transform our transportation sector, including the expansion of Enugu Air with four new aircraft, the concessioning of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, and the development of an international cargo terminal.

Our achievements in revenue generation reflect the strength of our economic reforms. The state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) grew from N37.4 billion in 2023 to a projected N144.7 billion by September 2024 - a remarkable 286% increase. This progress aligns with our deliberate efforts to reduce reliance on federal allocations and achieve fiscal independence.

While addressing the House, I emphasised that this budget reflects our vision to establish a solid foundation for exponential growth and inclusive development. Despite the economic challenges nationwide, we remain resolute in our commitment to charting a progressive path for Enugu State. By prioritising key sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, and transportation, we aim to drive sustainable development and uplift every segment of our society.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon. Engr. Uchenna Ugwu, and the entire Assembly for their support and assurance of an expedited passage of this transformative budget. Their dedication to our shared vision underscores our collective resolve to make Enugu a beacon of progress and prosperity.

Today, we gathered at the Old Government Lodge in Enugu to honour the remarkable life of Chief Dr. Engr. Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu, CFR, Ahaejiejemba Ndigbo. Joined by my brother governors and other leaders of the South-East and the Igbo nation at large, we paid tributes to an irreplaceable leader and esteemed elder statesman, whose legacy resonates deeply within our hearts and across the country.

As the leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Iwuanyanwu was a towering figure, not just for Ndi Igbo but for Nigeria as a whole. His lifelong devotion to unity and justice, and his unparalleled dedication to community upliftment, marked him as a true statesman and patriot. His vision extended beyond today, lighting a path for generations to come.

Personally, I am grateful for the privilege of having known and learned from him. His wisdom, humility, and love for our people and nation are ideals we will carry forward. His life is a powerful reminder of what it means to live for others, building bridges and creating lasting impact.

As we bid farewell to this great son of Igboland, let us honour his legacy by embodying the values he championed — unity, courage, and relentless service.

Kachifoo, Ahaejiejemba Ndigbo!

Today, I had the honour of performing the swearing-in of the 17 newly elected Local Government Council chairmen and their deputies. As I congratulate you all, I implore you to know that the era of promises is over, and now is the time to deliver tangible results for our people.

I monitored your campaign pledges, and I encourage you to start fulfilling them immediately. Our mantra, “Tomorrow is Here,” speaks to the urgency and immediacy of the work ahead. Ndi Enugu are counting on us to solve the challenges that stand in the way of our progress without delay. The tomorrow we envision is within our grasp to the extent that we are able to innovate and disrupt the status quo that no longer serves our present needs and aspirations.

I want to emphasise that it’s no longer acceptable for our chairmen to work remotely from the city. You must relocate to your LGAs and be with your people. We will have zero tolerance for crime and insecurity, because true development is only possible in a peaceful and secure environment.

The people must be at the epicenter of your governance model. You have to banish feelings of alienation and deliver democracy dividends to all.

Let’s work together to generate wealth, create jobs, and provide basic amenities across our local governments. The partnership between our administration and the local councils is strong. Let’s join hands to make tangible improvements for our people, including funding key projects that empower our local governments. I believe in your capacity to deliver, and I am eager to see the progress we will make.

Yesterday in Abuja, I held a consultative meeting with senior federal public servants from our state under the aegis of Coal City Elites Forum (CCEF). Our conversations were sincere, frank, informative, and fruitful. Their commendations for the strides we’ve made in Enugu State in less than two years were truly humbling.

I shared with them, some of the modest efforts we have been making to realise our vision of an Enugu State that will be the premier destination for business, investment, tourism and for living, as well as one of the top three states by GDP.

We’re in the process of revitalising moribund state-owned industries such as the Sunrise Flour Mills, Emene, with a N40bn investment. We’ve also attracted over N300bn in private sector investments in the last three months, and embarked on over 1,000 ongoing projects that are shaping a prosperous future for Enugu.

We are rebuilding and modernising our state with several ongoing projects, including the reopening of Hotel Presidential, the International Conference Centre, and the Enugu International Hospital - a 300-bed facility at Rangers Avenue, Enugu, that will serve the entire Southeast and beyond.

Our commitment to education is evident in the 33% budgetary allocation to the sector, alongside the development of Smart Green Schools across all 260 electoral wards.

We are building a state where opportunities abound for all. Our reforms are driven by a vision for sustainable growth, one that institutionalises change through legislation, ensuring that these efforts last beyond our administration.
