MASSIVE CROWD IN CALABAR URGES GOVERNOR OTU TO RUN AGAIN IN 2027
In a historic show of unity, more than 30,000 people yesterday gathered in Calabar, the Cross River State Capital City to call on Governor Bassey Otu and President Bola Tinubu to seek a second term in office in 2027.
The large crowd included young people, women, traditional rulers, political leaders, and residents from all parts of Cross River State. The event was organised by the Cross River South Consultative Forum and brought together groups from across the Southern Senatorial District and beyond.
The gathering served as a way to thank the Governor and to show strong, united support for his continued leadership. Many speakers highlighted how much progress the state has seen under his watch, pointing to improvements in roads, schools, farming, youth programmes, and security.
This is the first time in the state’s history that such a large number of people have come out to back a Governor for a second term even before he has said he’ll run again.
Prominent personalities who were present to charge the gathering include, the State chairman, Alphonsus Ogar Eba esq, JP, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon Emmanuel Ironbark, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, Rt Hon Joseph Bassey, Hon Bassey Akiba, Rt Hon Mike Etaba amongst others.
Supporters carried banners with messages like “Good Work Deserves Continuity” and “People First, Again!”, praising Governor Otu’s calm and inclusive approach to leadership.
Many also expressed appreciation for how the power rotation system in the state has been respected, with the southern part currently holding the governorship.
With this level of public support, the call for Governor Otu to return in 2027 has never been stronger.
