It’s been 50 years since homos*xuality was partially decriminalised in England and Wales.

In 2015 around 1.7% of the UK population aged 16+ identified as LGB, that's around 920,000 people. More males identified as LGB than females.

The Civil Partnership Act was passed in 2004, allowing same-s*x couples to form civil partnerships providing legal recognition of their relationships. The Marriage (same s*x couples) Act was passed in 2013 making equal marriage legal.

According to ONS, 68% of those who identify as LGB were single (never married or civil partnered) while 13% were married to someone of the opposite s*x and 3% were married to someone of the same s*x.

The remaining population were in civil partnerships (11%), divorced (4%) or widowed (1%) from a previous marriage or civil partnership.
