Protection of Public Health

The Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) participated today in the 2026 mass slaughtering exercise for less privileged people in Bauchi State to mark the Eid el-Kabir (Sallah) celebration.

BASEPA is among the agencies monitoring the exercise to ensure that all animals intended for slaughter are fit for consumption and free from zoonotic diseases such as liver infections, tuberculosis (TB), and other contagious diseases.

Environmental Health Officers of the Agency monitored the entire exercise to ensure proper hygiene was maintained throughout the slaughtering process.They supervised waste collection and disposal, monitored water quality at the exercise center, and seized and condemned all affected organs and animals to safeguard public health.

Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) Bans Slaughtering on Public Streets Ahead of Eid el-Kabir.

The Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) wishes to inform the general public that slaughtering and dressing of animals on public streets, roadsides, and other open spaces, as well as the use of rubber tyres for roasting animal hides, is officially banned during the upcoming Eid el-Kabir (Sallah) celebrations.

This decision is in line with efforts to protect public health and ensure food safety for all citizens.

Strict monitoring and enforcement measures have been put in place to ensure compliance with this directive. Offenders will face legal action as stipulated under the Agency’s laws.The government remains committed to safeguarding public health and upholding food safety standards.

Day Two: Stakeholders’ Engagement on Faecal Sludge Management Guidelines Implementation Strategy at Misau

The Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA), in collaboration with WaterAid, organized a one-day stakeholders’ engagement in Misau LGA.

The objective was to ensure inclusive participation, enhance awareness, and secure buy-in for the effective implementation of the Faecal Sludge Management (FSM) guidelines.

During the meeting, stakeholders focused on implementation strategies, the current operational status, opportunities, challenges, and the way forward through strengthened inter-agency collaboration and sensitization/awareness campaigns.

The meeting was attended by the Director General of BASEPA, Dr. Mahmud Mohammed Bose, who was represented by the Director of Inspection, Enforcement and Compliance, San. Mohammed Usman Sale. Also present were representative the Executive Chairman Misau LGA, the representative of the Emir of Misau, the AGM of RUWASSA, the Chief Imam of Misau, CAN Chairman, Director of Wash, Director of Works and other key stakeholders.

Stakeholders’ Engagement on Faecal Sludge Management Guidelines Implementation Strategy:

FLAG-OFF OF OPEN DEFECATION-FREE CAMPAIGN AND ENDING CHOLERA ADVOCACY IN JAMA’ARE LGA

The Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) participated in an advocacy campaign to end cholera and achieve open defecation-free status in Bauchi State.

The project, sponsored by the Sanitation and Hygiene Fund through WaterAid, aimed to demonstrate a strong commitment to improving public health, sanitation, and hygiene practices within our communities.

The program was attended by: the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sani Mohammed Dambam; the Director General of BASEPA, Dr. Mahmud Mohammed Bose; the Emir of Jama’are, Alh. Ahmed Mohammed Wabi Mni; WaterAid Project Lead, Mr. Mashat Mallo; the AGM of RUWASSA; the Chairman of Jama’are LGA; traditional title holders; and other dignitaries.
