*"I will provide Insecurity": The power of a slip and the strength of resolve*

I have been in the political trenches for a long time—learning, observing, and actively participating. From my early days of service under the legendary Chief Tony Anenih, of blessed memory, to stepping fully into the arena as a candidate myself, I have witnessed the highs and lows of electioneering.

I know the games politicians play, the spectacles that campaigns can become, and the ruthless strategies employed when the stakes are high. But among all the experiences I have gathered, nothing prepared me for the weight of a simple slip of the tongue—one that was blown out of proportion, twisted, and wielded as a weapon against me.

During the last governorship campaign, in the heat of a charged moment, my tongue betrayed me. Instead of saying, "I will provide security," the words that left my lips were, "I will provide insecurity." A fleeting mistake, an innocent error, one I corrected almost immediately. But the wolves were already circling, waiting for the slightest misstep.

And so, with glee and fervor, they pounced.

My opponents seized upon those words like a hungry man clutching at a plate of Mama Ebo pepper rice. It was broadcast, dissected, meme-ified, and trended across every social media platform. It became fuel for political banter, entertainment for idle minds, and, most astonishingly, a full-fledged campaign narrative against me.

I watched in amazement. Did they truly believe that a serious candidate for governor would stand before a sea of hopeful faces and declare an intention to provide insecurity? Did they not hear the immediate correction? Did they not, for a second, consider the absurdity of their own claims?

I wrestled with the frustration for days. I was tempted to keep explaining, keep clarifying. But then, I realized something profound—words can be drowned out, but actions speak with an undeniable force. If they chose to be deaf, then let them see.

And so, I let my actions do the talking.

Since assuming office, I have taken a firm stance on security. I have not merely spoken about it; I have acted decisively. I have met with security agencies, strategized, and realigned priorities. I have engaged the youth—both with words and with the necessary force—to put an end to senseless killings in the name of cultism. I have restructured and strengthened the State Security Network, restoring its lost integrity and purpose.

And today, I took it even further.

I officially launched 'Operation Rescue'—a statewide security initiative equipped with state-of-the-art crime-fighting vehicles and gadgets, distributed to all security agencies. This is not just policy; it is action. This is not mere rhetoric; it is tangible, visible change. The OR teams are composed of personnel from the police, army, civil defense, Edo State Security Network, and DSS—an integrated force with one mission: to protect and secure our people.

So now, I ask my former critics: Do you still doubt me? Do you still believe that my slip of the tongue was anything more than that?

Because while you were busy replaying and ridiculing those few seconds of verbal error, I was busy ensuring that our people could sleep at night without fear. While you spread mockery, I spread security. While you entertained yourselves with my words, I backed them up with action.

The lesson in all of this? If they refuse to hear you, make sure they see you. If they ignore your words, grab their attention with undeniable action.

And that, my friends, is the essence of leadership.
