After finishing my errands, I returned home and helped my aunt with lunch. We chatted about our day, and I shared my encounter with Riya. My aunt listened attentively, her expression softening.
"Do you think you're less and illiterate because you couldn't attend college?" she asked gently. I shook my head. "No, Aunt, I don't feel that way. But what she said today made me somehow sad."
My aunt's eyes filled with sadness. "I'm glad you said that, Zara. It was one of my dreams for you to go to college, but we couldn't, and I'm sorry for that. But I promise you today that I'll make sure you get married into a good family that will take care of you."
I held both of her hands, feeling grateful. "Thank you, Aunt. That means a lot to me. But I want you to know that I'm happy with my life. I may not have gone to college, but I'm content with what I have."
As we finished lunch, I realized that I was lucky to have a supportive family and friends like Aliya. I may not have had the opportunity to go to college, but I had a loving family and a fulfilling life.
