2026 WORLD RED CROSS DAY GRAND FINALE

It was indeed a remarkable and memorable day as volunteers of the Nigerian Red Cross Society gathered to celebrate the 2026 World Red Cross Day with the theme “United in Humanity.” The event attracted dignitaries from different walks of life, including members of security agencies and paramilitary organizations.
The celebration, which took place at the Auchi Polytechnic Alumni Hall, Auchi, commenced with the introduction of guests present.

The occasion was not only a celebration for Etsako West Division alone but for the Edo State Branch at large.
Divisions represented at the event included Etsako West Division, Esan Central Division, Etsako East Division, and Oredo Division.
The Branch Secretary, Wilson Ekhomogiazin, attended the event alongside the Disaster Management Officer, Trn. Christian Nduku; the PMER Officer, Trn. Hassan Olaronke; and the Branch Youth Chairman, Hon. Kenny Isokpan.

While addressing participants at the event, the Branch Secretary gave a brief history of the Red Cross Movement and emphasized the importance of volunteerism and service to humanity. He further appealed for support towards the Etsako West Division, especially in securing an office accommodation for the Division.

Trn. Jedaiah O. Erhagbai, the Branch Capacity Development Adviser, who represented the Branch Chairman, Pastor Monday Edogiawerie encouraged volunteers to remain active and committed in their humanitarian service. He also appealed to collaborating agencies to continue supporting the Nigerian Red Cross Society at all times.

One of the high points of the celebration was the inspection of guard carried out by members of the Red Cross. Other highlights included the presentation of commendation certificates to collaborating agencies and healthcare workers, as well as awards of honour presented to dedicated members of the Red Cross who have served humanity tirelessly over the years.

A special recognition was given to Elder Pius Sanni, a volunteer who joined the Red Cross in 1980 and is currently 85 years old. He was honoured with a portrait presentation and a Long Service Award in appreciation of his outstanding commitment and selfless humanitarian service.

In commemoration of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, volunteers of the Nigerian Red Cross Society Edo State Branch carried out a Safety On Our Roads (SOOR) campaign across various LGAs in the state, promoting safer roads, humanitarian action, and community responsibility.

Driven by the spirit of humanity and voluntary service, Red Cross volunteers were strategically deployed to major traffic points to support traffic control, ease congestion, and encourage safer road use among motorists, pedestrians, and commuters.

Beyond traffic management, the activity served as a reminder of the importance of protecting lives through collective responsibility, compassion, and community engagement. The visible presence of Red Cross volunteers on the roads further strengthened public awareness of the Society’s humanitarian mission and unwavering commitment to service.

For 163 years, the Red Cross Movement has remained a symbol of hope, humanity, and support to vulnerable communities across the world and today, we proudly continue that legacy.

Across communities and in times of need, the Red Cross continues to stand as a symbol of hope reaching the vulnerable, responding to emergencies, and inspiring people to care for one another beyond borders, differences, or circumstances.

World Red Cross Day is not only a celebration of humanitarian service, but also a reminder that even the smallest act of kindness can change a life.

As we mark this special day, we honor the dedication of volunteers and humanitarian workers whose commitment continues to strengthen communities and restore hope every day.

Welcome to the month of May...

The month to choose compassion, even when it’s not convenient.
To stand for humanity, not just in words, but in action.
This is a month that reminds us who we are, a movement of people driven by care, courage, and service.

As we approach World Red Cross Day,let’s not just celebrate humanity, let’s live it, every single day.
May we be the reason someone finds hope this month!
