*Edo First Lady Warns Against Harassment of Tina Okhiria, Pays Hospital Bills*

Edo City, Edo State - In a display of empathy and determination to address domestic violence, the First Lady of Edo State, Her Excellency Betsy Obaseki, has issued a stern warning against any form of harassment targeting Mrs. Tina Okhiria, who tragically lost her left hand after allegedly being shot by her abusive husband.

The Edo State First Lady urged Mrs. Okhiria to report any interference, intimidation, or harassment from any source, assuring her that such incidents will be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law. The First Lady made these remarks during an unexpected visit to the victim, where she personally checked on her well-being and arranged payment of her hospital bills.

The First Lady also assured her that arrangement has commenced for the procurement of the prosthetic arm which will take an estimated three to four months to finalise, thereby allowing ample time for her hand to heal.

In a bid to provide comprehensive support, Mrs. Obaseki handed over Mrs. Okhiria to the officials of the Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues for continuous follow-up. The First Lady reassured her that the law would take its course in the case of her husband without any external interference.

Expressing her gratitude, Mrs. Rita Okhiria, emotionally responded, stating that she felt overwhelmed by the First Lady's gesture. She blessed Mrs. Obaseki for her unwavering support during this difficult time.

The incident involving Mrs. Tina Okhiria serves as a stark reminder of the prevalent issue of domestic violence that continues to plague our society. It is imperative for citizens to unite against such atrocities and provide victims with the support they need to rebuild their lives.

*Gender Based Violence: Edo First Lady Assures Physically Challenged Victim of Justice*

The First Lady of Edo State Her Excellency Betsy Obaseki has decried the alleged inhuman treatment meted on a physically challenged man, Mr Lucky Osarenkhoe by his family over the sale of a land belonging to his sister.

Her Excellency Betsy Obaseki who visited the visually impaired Lucky Osarenkhoe at the Oredo Primary Health Centre in Benin City yesterday, assured the victim that his family members who locked him inside the family house without food for seven days will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

The Edo First Lady who was accompanied on the visit by the Commissioner for Youth and Gender Mr Andrew Ewanta Esq. said when she heard about the issue, she insisted that he be rescued immediately adding that the case is now between the State Government and the family of Mr Lucky.

Earlier, the visually impaired man, Mr Lucky Osarenkhoe who narrated his ordeal to Her Excellency Betsy Obaseki said his problem began when he refused to connive with his family members to sell a house belonging to his sister in the diaspora.

He said he has been threatened and beaten repeatedly by his family members before they left him to die, locked up in the family house alone.

The Edo State Gender Based Violence Management Committee mobilised a team to rescue the visually impaired man on Monday following a report by a member of the committee.

Mr Lucky is currently recuperating under the care of the committee.
