ARTMA PUBLIC NOTICE

25th May 2026

The dual carriageway from Awka to Onitsha has now been fully constructed and is officially open for motorists.

Consequently, it is now a traffic offence to drive against the approved direction of traffic (popularly known as One-Way) on this route.

ARTMA officers will be stationed at designated U-turn points along the corridor to guide and ensure that all road users keep strictly to their lanes.

Strict enforcement of One-Way violations on this route will commence on 1st June 2026.

Recall that the penalty for driving against traffic (One-Way) in Anambra State is vehicle impoundment for three (3) months with no option of fine.

Motorists are advised to comply fully in the interest of public safety and orderliness on our roads.

ARTMA REPORT

Monday, 11th May 2026

The Agency today held its first official parade following the May 4th reappointment of the Managing Director, Engr. Okonkwo Emeka-Konti, to outline the operational framework and strategic direction for the second tenure of Mr Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR.

Key highlights and resolutions from the parade include:

✅ APPRECIATION TO MR. GOVERNOR

The Agency expressed immense gratitude to Mr Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, for the renewed opportunity given to the Managing Director to continue serving Ndi Anambra through ARTMA. The result of good work is more work, and this reappointment is a clear testament to the Governor’s appreciation of our collective achievements over the past four years.

✅ HEADCOUNT OF OFFICERS

A comprehensive headcount exercise was conducted to identify and eliminate ghost workers within the agency.

✅ DIGITALISED TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT

Deliberations were held on the immediate deployment of digitalised enforcement systems to eliminate friction between officers and traffic offenders, including the introduction of ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras on traffic lights and major roads across the State.

✅ PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT AND PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT

Officers were educated on the need to adopt more professional and respectful approaches in dealing with traffic offenders, moving away from abusive conduct and all forms of thuggery.

✅ RE-KITTING OF ENFORCEMENT TEAM

Plans have been activated for the immediate re-kitting and repositioning of the Agency’s enforcement team.

✅ ZERO TOLERANCE FOR ONE-WAY DRIVING

Offenders who drive against traffic (One-Way) will have their vehicles impounded for three (3) months without the option of a fine. This strict measure has become necessary due to the numerous crashes, injuries, and loss of lives caused by this dangerous traffic violation.

Going forward, the enforcement team shall henceforth be known as SOLUTION ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS (SEOs).

Good day, Ndi Anambra!

Our ARTMA officers are out on the roads every day working hard to keep the traffic moving and ensure everyone stays safe. We want to remind everyone that resisting or fighting back during an encounter only leads to more trouble.

Assaulting an enforcement officer is not just wrong. It is a serious crime under the law. When situations escalate, it puts lives at risk and works against the very safety we are all trying to achieve.

If you choose to obstruct or assault an officer, you face serious legal repercussions.

ARTMA REPORT
Saturday, 28th February 2026

At about 6:25 PM on Friday, 27th February 2026, ARTMA received a distress report of a road traffic accident at Agulu Lake Hill, in Agulu.

The accident involved a fully loaded truck and two commercial buses. Preliminary findings indicate that the crash was caused by overspeeding by the truck driver while descending the Agulu Lake Hill. The driver was reportedly unaware of the terrain and lost control while navigating the slope on high speed.

The road, which was formerly a single-lane carriageway, was expanded into a dual carriageway from Amawbia to Uga under the administration of Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR, Governor of Anambra State.

JOINT INSPECTION & SAFETY ENGAGEMENT

To prevent a recurrence of such an unfortunate incident, ARTMA visited the scene alongside representatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), including the State Sector Commander, Mrs Bridget Asekhauno.

Also present were community executives of the area and the Member representing Anaocha in the State House of Assembly, Hon Nkechi Ogbuefi, to deliberate and proffer lasting solutions.

PROPOSED SAFETY MEASURES

After thorough assessment, the following solutions were recommended:

1. Installation of barricades to prevent heavy-duty trucks from using the Agulu Lake Hill route.

2. Er****on of visible road signs to properly guide and warn drivers.

3. Installation of rumble strips and speed bumps to reduce vehicle speed while navigating the area.

ARTMA remains committed to safeguarding lives and ensuring safer roads across Anambra State.

We urge all motorists to obey speed limits and remain vigilant, especially on hilly terrains.

Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Drive responsibly.
