ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY: NYCN DELTA SALUTES FALLEN HEROES, COMMENDS GOV. OBOREVWORI ON YOUTH MILITARY RECRUITMENT DRIVE

AS Nigerians marked the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the Delta State Council of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, (NYCN) has paid glowing tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes, describing their sacrifice as the foundation of Nigeria’s unity, peace and continued existence.

In a goodwill message to commemorate the day, State Chairman of the Council, Comr. Human Rights Are Everyday Essentials, Not Tools for Abuse — Sagboje

The State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN Delta State Council, Comr. Sagboje Odiri Milton, CLN, has charged youths across the state to uphold the true essence of human rights by exercising them responsibly and with respect for others, as the world celebrates the 2025 International Human Rights Day.

In a goodwill message issued on wednesday to mark the global event themed “Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials,” Comr. Sagboje emphasized that human rights form the backbone of safety, dignity, and sense of belonging in every society. He noted that these rights especially the right to life must be upheld in ways that support peace, justice, and harmonious coexistence.

The Deputy National Secretary of the Forum of NYCN State Chairmen applauded the Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, for his undiluted commitment to the protection of human rights in the state. He described the Governor as a credible apostle of fundamental human rights whose policies continue to promote fairness, inclusiveness, and social stability. “His Excellency, our youth friendly Governor, has consistently demonstrated leadership that respects and uplifts the dignity of all Deltans. His administration has strengthened an environment where human rights are recognized, protected, and practiced daily,” he noted.

While celebrating these democratic freedoms, He reminded youths that human rights come with responsibilities and stressed that individual rights must never infringe on the rights and dignity of others. “Your fundamental human right ends where another person’s right begins. Therefore, Freedom of expression is not a license to insult, blackmail, or cyberbully our elders, leaders, or fellow citizens,” he cautioned. “Human rights must never be twisted into tools for abuse. They flourish only when practiced with respect, discipline, and accountability.”

He urged young people across the state to be ambassadors of peace, justice, and truth, and to engage constructively both online and offline. He encouraged them to channel their voices toward positive reforms, community development, and the protection of the most vulnerable groups in the society

He reaffirmed the youth constituency's commitment to promoting youth empowerment, civic awareness, and respect for the rights and dignity of every young person in the state.

He extended warm wishes to all Deltans and Nigerians on this year’s Human Rights Day and called for collective efforts in building a society where human rights are not just acknowledged, but actively lived and defended daily.
