Close to 30 Years Without an Elective Position: Oke-Opin/Etan Ward Deserves Justice, Equity and Fairness
Since 1999 till date, Oke-Opin/Etan Ward has not produced an elected representative at the level of either Executive Chairman of Ekiti Local Government or Member representing Ekiti Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly.
Oke-Opin/Etan remains one of the ten political wards in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State. Apart from political appointments and the constitutional position of Councillor representing the ward, our people have not had the opportunity to occupy any of these major elective positions for almost three decades.
Raising this concern is not intended to castigate or undermine the contributions of the other nine wards that make up Ekiti Local Government. Rather, it is a sincere call for justice, equity and fairness as we approach the 2027 general elections.
We acknowledge and appreciate all former Executive Chairmen and Honourable Members of the Kwara State House of Assembly who have served and represented Ekiti Constituency over the years. We also recognize the incumbent Member representing Ekiti Constituency, who has occupied this position since 2019 and hails from Isapa Ward.
However, history demands that we embrace inclusiveness, balance and equitable representation.
We are therefore grateful to the Kwara State PDP and, particularly, the PDP family in Ekiti Local Government, for recognizing the importance of fairness and inclusiveness. In the just-concluded PDP primary election, the party zoned the State House of Assembly ticket for Ekiti Constituency to Oke-Opin/Etan Ward.
This is a significant development and an important step towards addressing the long-standing imbalance in elective representation within our constituency. The opportunity is not merely about sympathy or rotation; it is about competence, capacity, good representation and the overall progress of Ekiti Constituency.
In this regard, we proudly stand with Hon. Ajayi Reuben Olabanji, ACA, ACTI, a distinguished finance expert, educated young man and grassroots mobilizer who understands the pains, aspirations and needs of the people of Ekiti Constituency.
Hon. Ajayi Reuben Olabanji represents an opportunity for effective, competent and people-oriented representation. His professional background, grassroots connection and understanding of the constituency position him as a credible choice for the task ahead.
As we move towards the 2027 general elections, we appeal to all stakeholders, leaders, supporters and well-meaning sons and daughters of Ekiti Constituency to support this historic opportunity.
Let us stand together for Justice. Equity. Fairness.
Let us support Oke-Opin/Etan Ward.
Let us support competence.
Let us support good representation.
Let us support the progress of Ekiti Constituency.
God bless Ekiti Constituency.
God bless Kwara State.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
