I can’t be the only one who’s just finding out that the very legendary Aare Afe Babalola, founder of the Afe Babalola University in Ado Ekiti, Nigeria is the father of our very own powerhouse movie director & Queen of Biopics, Bolanle Austen-Peters!

From War Heroes to Peace Builders: Aare Afe Babalola and Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele Sustain the Ogedengbe Legacy

History continues to connect generations through courage, leadership, and service.

In 2018, Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, OFR, CON, was honoured as a Peace Time Hero during the Remembrance Day of Ekiti War Heroes at Okemesi-Ekiti in recognition of his outstanding contributions to peace, education, and nation-building.

Eight years later, at Ogedengbe Fiesta 2026 in Ilesa, the Leader of the Senate, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, CON, delivered the Ogedengbe Legacy Lecture, emphasizing the duty of every generation to preserve the legacies of heroes such as Saraibi Ogedengbe Agbogungboro and Fabunmi Isola Adesoye.

The two events symbolize a powerful message: while some heroes defended their people with the sword, others build lasting legacies through education, visionary leadership, and peace.

Aare Afe Babalola and Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele represent a living bridge between the heroic past and the promising future of Yorubaland and Nigeria.

OGEDENGBE FIESTA 2026: Descendants of Yoruba War Heroes Reunite, Seek Heritage Association

Descendants of legendary Yoruba war heroes reunited at the grand finale of Ogedengbe Fiesta 2026 in Ilesa, Osun State, where they advocated the establishment of a Yorubaland Warlords Heritage Association to preserve the legacy of the great military leaders who defended Yorubaland in the 19th century.

The proposed association will celebrate heroes such as Ogedengbe Agbogungboro, Aare Latoosa, Aduloju, Fabunmi, Ajayi Osungbekun, and Olomofe Otirigijuda, among others.

Representing Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, Dr. Seyi Olubanjo emphasized the need to preserve the heroes' legacy and called for greater unity in addressing contemporary security challenges.

The Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, represented by the Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa, urged that History be made compulsory in schools and appealed to Yoruba families to preserve their ancestral homes as cultural heritage.

Founder of the Ogedengbe Legacy Foundation, Arole Tayo Ogedengbe, said the festival commemorated 116 years of the enduring legacy of Generalissimo Saraibi Ogedengbe Agbogungboro, Commander of the Ekiti-Parapo forces during the Kiriji War.

The festival ended with a vote of thanks by Chief Mrs. Iyabo Ogedengbe Daniels, who appreciated all stakeholders and urged participants to uphold the values of courage, patriotism, sacrifice, unity, and selfless service while looking forward to an even bigger Ogedengbe Fiesta 2027.

On this Father's Day, I celebrate an exceptional statesman, philanthropist, educationist, and my great benefactor, Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, OFR, CON.

From humble beginnings, Baba Afe has built an enduring legacy of excellence, integrity, and service to humanity. Through the establishment of ABUAD and his numerous contributions to education, healthcare, agriculture, and community development, he has transformed countless lives and inspired generations.

His life truly exemplifies the message of his autobiography, "Impossibility Made Possible."

I remain grateful for his fatherly guidance, mentorship, and support. May Almighty God continue to bless him with good health, strength, peace, and many more years of impactful service.
