INEC, Stakeholders Hold Electoral Risk Management Workshop Ahead of Ekiti Poll
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in collaboration with key stakeholders, has held an Electoral Risk Management (ERM) sensitization workshop ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.
The workshop, held on April 15 in Ado-Ekiti, brought together officials of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), security agencies, civil society organisations, and media practitioners to strengthen strategies for a peaceful and credible election.
In her goodwill message, the NOA State Director, Oluwakemi Akomolede, said credible elections require the collective effort of all stakeholders. She noted that voter apathy, misinformation, and vote-buying remain major challenges driven by low civic awareness, adding that some communities have been identified as risk-prone areas.
Speaking, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti State, Bunmi Omoseyindemi, described the workshop as timely and strategic, noting that the ERM framework would help identify and mitigate risks such as security threats, misinformation, and logistical challenges.
He reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible election, urging stakeholders to comply with electoral guidelines.
Also, Jennifer Ikechukwu highlighted the importance of risk identification and mapping in preventing electoral violence, noting that the ERM framework serves as a tool for tracking and mitigating threats to the electoral process.
Participants also engaged in sessions to identify and map electoral risk areas across the state, with a view to ensuring a peaceful governorship election.
