JIV CONCLUDES ON OANDO 4” OGBOINBIRI WELL 8LS FLOWLINE OIL SPILL INCIDENT IN BAYELSA

A Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) has been concluded on the crude oil spill incident recorded on Oando Energy Resources Limited’s 4” Ogboinbiri Well 8LS Flowline located in Ogboinbiri, Bayelsa State.

According to findings from the investigation, the incident occurred on May 26, 2026, and was reported on the same day, while the JIV exercise was concluded on May 28, 2026.

The investigation revealed that the spill was caused by corrosion on the 4-inch flowline. A pinhole leak discovered at the 11 o’clock position of the pipeline resulted in the release of crude oil into the surrounding environment.

An estimated two barrels of crude oil were spilled, impacting approximately 28,395.5 square metres of the affected area.

To contain the spread of the spill, the impacted area was immediately boomed pending cleanup and remediation operations. Authorities have recommended the immediate commencement of cleanup activities to mitigate further environmental impact.

Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) was conducted at the 24-inch Ogoda-Brass Pipeline located at the Elepa/Okpoama axis in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, operated by Oando Energy Resources Limited, following a reported oil spill incident.

The incident occurred and was reported on 20 May 2026, while the first and second site visits were carried out on 21 May and 22 May 2026 respectively.

Findings from the investigation revealed that the spill was caused by equipment failure. An estimated quantity of 0.31 barrels of crude oil was spilled, with no volume recovered. The impacted area was estimated at 0.00061 hectares.

The affected area was immediately mopped up, and necessary response actions were undertaken to mitigate environmental impact.

UPDATE ON JIV TO RENAISSANCE AFRICAN ENERGY COMPANY’S 16” TUNU-BRASS PIPELINE AT AGBIDIAMA, EKEREMOR LGA

A Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) was conducted on 15 May 2026, with a follow-up JIV carried out on 16 May 2026, in respect of a spill incident on Renaissance African Energy Company’s 16-inch Tunu-Brass pipeline at Agbidiama, Ekeremor Local Government Area.

Findings from the investigation revealed an estimated spill volume of 41 barrels, impacting approximately 2.3 hectares of the surrounding environment. The cause of the incident was attributed to sabotage.

During the excavation process, investigators observed a visible cut with a punch mark located on top of a metal cone at a previously repaired section of the pipeline. Crude oil sheen was also observed around the incident point. The affected area was immediately boomed to contain further spread of the spill, while recovery and repair operations continued after the JIV.

Cleanup operations are expected to commence immediately.

Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) to the 6’’ Tunu Well 5T & 17T Flowline at Bilabiri, Ekeremor LGA, conducted on Sunday, 17 May 2026, following a reported spill incident.

The investigation confirmed an estimated spill quantity of 4 barrels (bbls), with sabotage identified as the cause of the incident. During excavation at the affected point, investigators observed visible hacksaw cuts on the flowline, indicating deliberate interference. Crude oil sheen was also observed around the incident area, confirming environmental impact.

As part of immediate containment measures, the impacted point was boomed to prevent further spread of the spill. Cleanup operations are scheduled to commence immediately.

The Kaduna Zonal Office of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) on Wednesday, 13th May 2026, paid a facility inspection visit to the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company as part of its routine oversight and regulatory responsibilities.

The visit featured an Oil Spill Response Equipment (OSRE) Audit aimed at assessing the company’s preparedness, response capacity, and compliance with environmental safety standards in line with national regulations and global best practices.

The exercise underscores NOSDRA’s continued commitment to effective environmental protection, pollution prevention, and strengthened collaboration with stakeholders in the oil and gas sector.

NOSDRA DG Undertakes Work Visit to Uyo Zonal Office, Reaffirms Commitment to Staff Welfare and Operational Efficiency

The Director-General/Chief Executive of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Emeka Woke, undertook a work visit to the Uyo Zonal Office as part of efforts to strengthen leadership engagement, improve staff welfare, and enhance operational efficiency across the Agency’s zonal offices.

The Director-General stated that the work visit became necessary following several reports and communications received from zonal offices concerning challenges related to staff welfare, working conditions, and operational needs.

According to him, the visit was aimed at obtaining firsthand information and carrying out an on-the-spot assessment of the situation in order to better understand the challenges faced by staff members.

During the visit, the Director-General inspected office facilities and interacted extensively with members of staff, providing them with the opportunity to express their concerns, expectations, and suggestions. Key issues discussed included office infrastructure and furniture, logistics, staff welfare, and the provision of adequate working tools.

In his remarks, Engr. Woke encouraged staff members to remain hopeful and committed to the vision of a better NOSDRA, assuring them that all concerns raised during the engagement had been duly noted and would receive the Agency’s attention.

He also commended the Uyo Zonal Head and staff members for their resilience, dedication, and commitment to the Agency’s mandate despite the prevailing challenges.

The work visit was widely described as impactful and timely, serving as a significant morale booster for staff members of the Uyo Zonal Office and further demonstrating the Director-General’s commitment to inclusive leadership and institutional development within NOSDRA.

NOSDRA DG Visits Warri Zonal Office, Charges Staff on Diligence and Efficiency

The Director-General of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Engr. Chukwuemeka Woke, on Tuesday paid an official visit to the agency’s Warri Zonal Office as part of efforts to strengthen operational efficiency and staff engagement across its regional offices.

During the visit, Engr. Woke met with staff of the zonal office, where he commended their commitment to duty and emphasized the critical role the Warri office plays in monitoring and responding to oil spill incidents in the Niger Delta region.

He reiterated the agency’s mandate to ensure environmental sustainability and protect affected communities from the adverse impacts of oil pollution.

During the visit, he also attended to the concern of a contract staff member and pledged to assist within his capacity, underscoring his commitment to staff welfare.

The Director-General also used the opportunity to assess ongoing activities, review operational challenges, and explore ways to enhance service delivery.

He assured staff of management’s continued support in providing the necessary tools and resources to improve effectiveness and response time.

He further assured staff of improved working conditions and encouraged them to remain diligent and take their responsibilities seriously in order to deliver a high performance scorecard.

The visit forms part of Engr. Woke’s broader strategy to engage directly with field personnel, promote accountability, and reinforce NOSDRA’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s environment.
