On March 15, 2025, the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) held a special Iftar Dinner at the residence of His Excellency Mohamadou Musa Njie, High Commissioner, to honour Professor Al-Hassan Conteh, the outgoing Liberian High Commissioner to Nigeria and former Dean of the PRC.
This event, attended by esteemed ambassadors from the PRC and various West African nations, celebrated High Commissioner Conteh's substantial legacy. Current PRC Chair, Ambassador Nuhu Musa, expressed tremendous respect for High Commissioner Conteh, acknowledging his remarkable diplomatic efforts in Nigeria and within the ECOWAS framework, which set a commendable standard for commitment and leadership.
Fellow ambassadors reminisced about High Commissioner Conteh's illustrious career, recognizing his grace, humility, and unwavering dedication. They highlighted his strong commitment to unity, sense of duty, and calm yet forthright leadership as defining qualities that have earned him immense respect. They praised his skill in preserving ECOWAS’s institutional history, comparing him to a living encyclopaedia of the organisation and urged him to document his insights from his time in ECOWAS to guide future diplomats.
In his speech, High Commissioner Njie remarked, "As we celebrate High Commissioner Conteh's promotion to Ambassador of Liberia in his new role, his accomplishments serve as a reminder that true leadership transcends titles; it is reflected in the relationships one cultivates, the values one upholds, and the lasting impact one creates—qualities that High Commissioner Conteh embodies." He concluded with warm wishes for High Commissioner Conteh's future role, expressing strong confidence in his ability to uphold Liberia's values and symbolise the enduring strength of West Africa, instilling a shared sense of hope and optimism for the future.
