I am pleased to announce that I have officially handed over the data of 16,310 out-of-school children identified in Benue State to the state government. These children are part of the over 700,000 out-of-school children that our Commission has recently mapped across the country through our nationwide exercise.

This handover took place during the maiden Benue State Summit on Basic Education, held in Makurdi, the state capital. Benue State has become the first in the federation to formally accept and act on our Commission’s data after expressing readiness to enroll these identified children back into school. Following our mapping exercise, the Commission wrote to all state governments seeking partnership to facilitate the enrollment of the affected children. Several months later, Benue remains the only state that has actively partnered with us in this effort.

I commend His Excellency Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the Governor of Benue State, for his passion and unwavering commitment to improving education in the state. I also praise the Executive Chairman of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board for her dedication and tireless efforts in transforming the basic education sector.

I am encouraged by Governor Alia’s reaffirmation of his administration’s commitment to ensuring that no child in Benue is denied access to education. He has emphasized that education in all public primary and junior secondary schools in the state remains free from Basic One to Basic Nine. His administration has recruited over 9,700 teachers, ensured consistent payment of salaries, and implemented the harmonized retirement age for teachers as part of broader reforms to strengthen the sector.

I note with appreciation that the Benue State Government has already commenced the enrollment process, starting with 500 of the identified children, and plans to continue enrolling them in batches of 500 until all 16,310 are fully integrated back into the school system. This collaborative effort sets a strong example, and it is my prayer that other states will follow suit so we can collectively reduce the number of out-of-school children across Nigeria.

Today, I successfully completed my APC e-registration here in my beloved hometown of Nguru, Yobe State, and received my membership card.

It was a joyful moment surrounded by dedicated party faithful, including the APC Chairman of Nguru LGA, Alh. Talba Kachalla, the Honourable Commissioner for Basic & Secondary Education, Associate Prof. Abba Idris, APC EXCOS, Nguru LGA stakeholders, and many loyal supporters and well-wishers.

This digital step strengthens our great party as we build a more inclusive, transparent, and united APC.

I visited the Lawan (Village Head) of Ngarbi, the site of the tragic boat mishap to extend my heartfelt condolences and commiserate with the affected community.

It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that I learned of the tragic boat mishap that occurred in Nguru Local Government Area, claiming the precious lives of 27 individuals, with 15 others fortunately rescued and 17 still unaccounted for.

On behalf of myself and my family, I extend my deepest condolences to the Yobe State Government, His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni, the Nguru Local Government Council, and the Nguru Emirate Council over this heartbreaking incident. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families during this difficult time of immense grief and loss.

I urge the relevant authorities, including the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency and security agencies, to intensify efforts in the ongoing search and rescue operations to locate the missing persons and bring closure to the affected families.

I also extend my heartfelt sympathies to the good people of Nguru, a resilient community that has once again been touched by tragedy. May Almighty Allah grant the departed souls eternal peace in Aljannat Firdaus, speedy recovery to the survivors, and fortitude to the bereaved to bear this irreparable loss.

It was with immense joy and gratitude to Allah (SWT) that I welcomed distinguished guests to Nguru, Yobe State, for the wedding Fatiha of my beloved daughters, Fatima Mohammed Sani Idris and Ummi Habiba Mohammed Sani Idris.

The event was graced by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni CON (Chiroman Gujba), who was ably represented by his Deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana (Wazirin Fune) and The SSA to the President on Political and other matters, Alh. Ibrahim Kabir Masari Their presence, along with that of other esteemed dignitaries, added profound honor to this blessed occasion in our family.

The wedding Fatiha took place at Unguwar Kadage, Nguru, and was solemnized by Khalifa Salisu Usman Fillatiya, following the presentation of certificates of fitness and the agreed dowries: ₦500,000 for Fatima, who married Umar Ramat, and ₦1,000,000 for Ummi Habiba, who married Mubarak.

I was deeply humbled by the company of other prominent guests who joined us, including Hon. Digma Maina Gana; Hon. Suleiman Yakubu; Hon. Commissioner for Wealth Creation, Empowerment and Employment Generation; Hon. Aji Yerima Bularafa; Special Advisers on Livestock and Health; Hon. Ahmad Lawan Mirwa; Hon. Commissioner fo Basic and Secondary Education, Associate Prof. Abba Idris; Hon. Gamcho Tela; Hon. Ibrahim Umar Potiskum; Alh. Maina Mafa, Special Adviser on Small Scales and Executive Secretary of the Science and Technical Schools Board; and Dr. Dauda Muhammad Atiyaye.

Hundreds of friends, family members, and well-wishers from Maiduguri, Abuja, and across the country also traveled to share in our joy, making the day truly memorable.

I led the delegation of the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education to attend the Janazah prayer of the renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi (may Allah have mercy on him), in Bauchi. On behalf of the Commission, I extended our deepest condolences to his immediate family, students, and the entire Muslim Ummah on this irreparable loss.

Our discussions centered on strengthening collaboration to tackle the Almajiri system and the persistent challenge of out-of-school children, with a view to developing sustainable, impactful interventions across the country.

NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR ALMAJIRI AND OUT-OF-SCHOOL CHILDREN’S EDUCATION CONDEMNS THE KILLING OF ALMAJIRI IN BIRNIN KEBBI AND CALLS FOR JUSTICE

Abuja, Nigeria—The National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children’s Education (NCAOOSCE) has received with profound concern the report of the tragic killing of Salihu Hassan, a 17-year-old Almajiri of Madarasatul Mallam Mainasara, Illelayari Area, Birnin Kebbi.

According to information from the Commission’s Kebbi State Office, the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, 24th November, 2025. The deceased was found in a pool of blood and immediately evacuated by the Nigeria Police Force to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, where he was certified dead by medical personnel.

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a suspect, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. The Commission commends the swift response of the security agencies and urges that the investigation be conducted diligently to ensure justice is served.

Commenting on the incident, the Executive Secretary of NCAOOSCE, Dr. Muhammad Sani Idris, said: "This tragic loss of a young Almajiri is deeply distressing. Violence against children is unacceptable and undermines efforts to provide safe and inclusive education. We call on the authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and justice for the bereaved family."

In line with its mandate to protect Almajiri and out-of-school children, NCAOOSCE is engaging with the Kebbi State Government and security agencies, reviewing safety measures in learning centres, providing support to the family of the deceased, and advocating for safe, peaceful school environments across the country.

The Commission extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, the school community, and the government and people of Kebbi State. It calls on community leaders, caregivers, education stakeholders, and the public to work together to safeguard children and ensure that every learner can pursue education without fear.
