We empower and train Nigerians home and abroad to become job ready in the oil and gas industry . The Petroleum technology Development Fund (PTDF) was established by Act No. 25 of 1973, which replaced the Gulf Oil Company Training Fund (Administration) Act, 1964 and vested in the Fund all the assets and responsibilities of the defunct Gulf Oil Company Training Fund. The PTDF Act in its definition c

lause states that it is “ An Act to repeal the Gulf Oil Company Training Fund (Administration) Act 1964 and to establish the Petroleum Technology development Fund for the purposes of training and education of Nigerians in the Petroleum Industry”. MANDATE
The Fund’s mandate is dedicated to building of capacities and capabilities in Nigeria’s Oil and Gas industry through the development of human capacities, institutional capacity development as well as the promotion of research and acquisition of relevant technologies. MISSION
To train Nigerians to qualify as graduates, professionals, technicians and craftsmen in the field of engineering, geology, science and management in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria and abroad. VISION
To serve as a vessel for the development of indigenous manpower and technology transfer acquisition in the petroleum industry as well as make Nigeria a human resource centre for the West African sub-region.

PTDF hosted a delegation from Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) at the PTDF Tower, Abuja, to advance collaboration aimed at improving academic support, visa processes, and administrative efficiency for PTDF scholars studying in Malaysia.

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) was proud to participate in the 2026 Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES), held from February 2–5, 2026, alongside major stakeholders and key players across Nigeria’s energy sector.
The Summit provided a strategic platform for industry leaders, policymakers, investors, and academia to engage on the future of energy in Nigeria and Africa.

Industry Experts and Academia Review PTDF-Sponsored Oil & Gas Research

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) recently hosted the 2026 Research Peer Review Programme, bringing together industry experts, academia, and researchers to evaluate projects under the Annual Oil & Gas Research Grant Competition and the PTDF Professorial Chair Endowment Programme.
The two-day event showcased innovative research solutions developed using locally sourced materials, reflecting Nigeria’s growing capacity to address critical challenges within the oil and gas sector.

Highlighted research areas included:

🔹 Integrated pipeline monitoring and detection systems
🔹 Carbon nanotube-enhanced energy technologies
🔹 Bioenergy development from non-edible oil seeds
🔹 Sustainable fuels and hydrogenation processes for waste and biomass
🔹 Geological studies with implications for resource development

Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary, PTDF, Mr. Ahmed Galadima Aminu, described the programme as a “celebration of excellence and success stories,” emphasizing that the projects have strong potential for commercialization, patents, and spin-off industries capable of creating jobs for Nigerians.

The Peer Review Programme reinforces PTDF’s commitment to transforming research into practical industry solutions while strengthening indigenous capacity in Nigeria’s energy sector.
