Political Earthquake as Dr. Chris Okonkwo Crushes Rivals in NDC Governorship Primaries

In what many party faithful and political observers have described as a political earthquake, Dr. Chris Okonkwo has emerged victorious in the NDC Governorship Primaries after securing a commanding win across the local government areas against other aspirants.

The atmosphere across the state immediately turned electric as news of his victory spread through Nkanu West, where he secured more than 800 votes against his closest rival Chinyaka Ohaa to Nsukka, Igbo-Etiti, and several other local government areas where jubilant supporters celebrated what is now being regarded as one of the most dominant performances in the party’s recent political history.

Reports from the primaries indicate that Dr. Okonkwo swept through 13 out of the 17 local government areas in the state, establishing an overwhelming lead that left little doubt about the strength of his grassroots support and political influence across the state.

Although Chinyaka Ohaa emerged as his closest rival in the contest, the margin and momentum enjoyed by Dr. Okonkwo throughout the exercise reportedly placed him firmly ahead as results continued to arrive from different local governments.

Observers say the outcome of the primaries reflects the growing confidence of party delegates and stakeholders in Dr. Okonkwo’s leadership style, political experience, and vision for the future of the state. His strong performance in Nsukka and other major political blocs further reinforced perceptions that his candidacy enjoys widespread acceptance among the people.

Supporters who thronged celebration grounds described the victory as a “clear mandate for transformation,” insisting that the massive support recorded during the primaries signals a strong movement ahead of the governorship election.

For many within the party, the emergence of Dr. Chris Okonkwo represents more than just a primary victory; it is seen as the rise of a formidable political force capable of reshaping the state’s political landscape.

As the celebrations continue, political attention now shifts toward the governorship election, where supporters believe Dr. Okonkwo carries not only momentum, but also the statewide appeal needed to lead the NDC into a major electoral victory. NDC national is expected to confirm this formally?

Today, at NDC Headquarters, Abuja, I took more than a political step; I embraced a responsibility and renewed a commitment to the people of Enugu State by picking my Expression of Interest Form for the Governorship race under NDC.

This moment is not driven by personal ambition, but by a deep conviction that leadership must become a tool for transformation. I envision an Enugu where development is not selective, where opportunities reach every home, and where empowerment becomes the bridge between dreams and reality.

True leadership is not measured by the office occupied, but by the lives touched and the future built. The mission is clear: to restore hope, inspire progress, and create a State where every citizen can rise, thrive, and believe again.

MOTHER’S DAY COVENANT OF HOPE: A Message to the Resilient Women of Enugu State from Engr. Dr. Chris Okonkwo
.. To the Pillars of our Homes and the Soul of our State

On this sacred Sunday, April 19, 2026, as the Catholic faithful and the entire nation pause to honor the incomparable essence of motherhood, I reach out to you not just as an aspirant, but as a son who understands the weight of the crown you wear.

Motherhood is often described as a journey of love, but in our beloved Enugu State today, that journey has been fraught with unmerited struggle. I see you. I see the quiet strength you exert when the taps run dry and the search for water becomes a daily battle for survival. I feel the anxiety that grips your hearts as skyrocketing rents threaten the sanctity of your homes and the stability of your families.

Most painfully, I am aware of the silent cries in our healthcare centers the difficulties you face in accessing quality maternal and reproductive care, and the sense of abandonment when a government that is supposed to protect your interests looks the other way. It often seems as though no one cares .But I tell you today: I care. Engr. Dr. Chris Okonkwo hears you.

This Mother’s Day is not merely a day for platitudes; it is a day for a solemn resolve. My vision for Enugu State is rooted in the belief that when a mother is empowered, a nation is healed. Under my leadership, the welfare of our women and the future of our youth will not just be agenda items-they will be our top priorities.

We are moving toward an Enugu where water scarcity becomes history through sustainable engineering, ensuring no mother spends her day searching for a basic necessity. We are committed to an era where economic relief is tangible, addressing the housing crisis and skyrocketing rents that make basic living an agonizing burden.

Furthermore, we will ensure that healthcare is a right rather than a luxury, overhauling our primary systems so every woman receives dignified and comprehensive medical attention, particularly regarding reproductive health. The hardships you endure today are deep, but they are not permanent.

To every Catholic mother celebrating today and to every woman across our state: relief is coming. We are stepping into a season where the government will finally act as your shield and your partner.

As you gather in your parishes and homes to celebrate this Mothering Sunday, may your hearts be filled with the peace you so richly deserve. Your labor shall not be in vain, and your sacrifices will be honored with a state that works for you.

Happy Mothering Sunday to the gallant women of Enugu State.

With commitment,
Engr. Dr. Chris Okonkwo

A nation is not transformed by wishes, complaints, or silence; it is transformed by the conscious choices of its people.

History teaches us that societies rise when citizens refuse indifference and embrace responsibility. Every generation is presented with defining moments—moments when apathy becomes costly and participation becomes a moral duty. This is one of such moments.

The future of our country will not be decided by hope alone, but by the actions we take today. Registration, participation, and informed engagement in the democratic process are not merely rights; they are obligations we owe to ourselves, to our children, and to generations yet unborn.

Let us not stand at the sidelines while others decide the direction of our collective destiny. Let us think deeply, act wisely, and choose with conscience.

A better nation begins when good people decide to be involved.

He Is Risen — And With Him, Hope Rises for Enugu
Easter Message by Engr. Dr. Chris Okonkwo

My dear people of Enugu State — the Coal City of resilience, the cradle of enterprise, and the heartbeat of our shared heritage.

As we celebrate the glorious resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, we are reminded that Easter is the eternal triumph of hope over despair, light over darkness, and life over every limitation.

The stone was rolled away, and with it came a timeless message to humanity: no challenge is too great, no burden is too heavy, and no future is beyond renewal.

This sacred season calls us to reflect on the strength within our communities, the dignity of our people, and the boundless possibilities that lie ahead for our beloved Enugu State.

From Nsukka to Nkanu, from Oji River to Uzo Uwani, from the bustling energy of our markets to the brilliance of our institutions of learning, Easter reminds us that every season of difficulty can give way to a new dawn.

It is a season of faith, renewal, unity, and collective hope.

May this Easter inspire every family, every youth, every professional, every farmer, and every entrepreneur to believe once again in the promise of a brighter tomorrow.

Enugu remains blessed with hardworking people, rich heritage, and immense potential. Together, through faith, love, and shared purpose, we can continue to build stronger communities, empower our young people, and nurture the dreams of generations to come.

As we celebrate with our loved ones, may the light of the risen Christ fill every home with peace, joy, good health, and renewed strength.

Happy Easter to the wonderful people of Enugu State.

The stone is rolled away. Hope is alive. Our future is bright.

From Hosanna to Responsibility: A Defining Call to Christian Conscience and Nation Building

By
Engr. Dr. Chris Okonkwo

Dear Beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As we commemorate this sacred and reflective moment of Palm Sunday, we are reminded of a profound paradox in human history-the triumphant entry of our Lord into Jerusalem, celebrated with palms and praise, yet unfolding into a path of sacrifice, truth, and ultimate redemption. It is a moment that calls not merely for ritual remembrance, but for deep spiritual introspection.

Palm Sunday is not just a celebration; it is a question posed to the conscience of every believer.

The same crowd that cried “Hosanna” would soon echo “Crucify Him.” This duality compels us to reflect on the integrity of our convictions, the constancy of our values, and the courage of our faith in the face of societal pressures. It challenges us to ask: Are we Christians only in moments of comfort, or also in times that demand sacrifice, justice, and truth?

At this critical juncture in our national life, the message of Palm Sunday transcends the walls of our churches and enters the very fabric of our civic responsibility. Faith, when genuine, is never passive. It is active, transformative, and accountable. A nation is not built by policies alone, but by the moral consciousness of its people.

Nigeria and our dear Enugu State today stands in need of men and women whose faith is not ornamental but operational citizens who will rise beyond apathy, reject corruption in all its forms, and insist on righteousness as the foundation of leadership and governance. The Palm we carry today must symbolize not only victory, but responsibility.

We must, therefore, embrace a higher calling:
To be voices of truth in a climate of compromise.
To be instruments of justice in a system often tempted by inequity.
To be builders of unity in a time of division.

Let this season awaken in us a renewed sense of purpose, not just as Christians, but as custodians of our nation’s future. The transformation we seek in Nigeria must begin with the transformation within us. Our faith must influence our choices, our leadership, our participation, and our unwavering demand for accountability.

History will not remember what we professed, but what we stood for.

As Christ entered Jerusalem with humility, yet with divine purpose, may we too walk this journey with courage, integrity, and an unshakable commitment to building a nation that reflects justice, peace, and shared prosperity.

May this Palm Sunday mark the beginning of a deeper awakening-spiritually, morally, and nationally.

God bless you all, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria, God bless Enugu State.

Engr. Dr. Chris Okonkwo.
ADC Governorship Aspirant, Enugu State.
