The June 2026 Factsheet breaks down the financial health and efficiency of the Distribution Companies (DisCos) across the country.

Highlights:

Billing Efficiency: Stood at 76.24%, with total energy billed reaching ₦240.71bn out of ₦315.73bn energy received.

Collection Efficiency: Recorded at 79.71%, resulting in a total revenue collection of ₦191.86bn for the month.

Revenue Recovery Performance: The industry reached an overall Recovery Efficiency of 74.24%.

Top Performers: Eko (87.04%), Port Harcourt (86.33%), and Benin (82.23%) DisCos stood out with the highest recovery efficiency levels for June.

Our latest Metering Factsheet is here!

The May & June 2026 Metering Status of Distribution Companies (DisCos) factsheet highlights continued progress in customer metering across the country.

Highlights:
National Progress: The national metering rate increased to 61.51% by the end of June, up from 60.22% in May.

Meter Deployment: DisCos metered 203,521 additional customers in June, compared with 104,585 installations in May.

Leading DisCos: Eko (88.70%), Ikeja (87.91%), and Abuja (81.38%) continue to lead the industry with the highest metering rates.

Total Coverage: As of June 2026, the total number of metered customers across all DisCos reached 7,743,839 out of 12,589,486 active customers.

NERC HOSTS TRANSGRID ENERCO DELEGATION, REVIEWS POST-ACQUISITION PERFORMANCE OF EKO DISCO

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) hosted a delegation from Transgrid Enerco on a working visit to review the company’s post-acquisition performance and strategic initiatives following its acquisition of a majority stake in Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Eko DisCo).
The delegation, led by the Group Managing Director, Mr. Kolapo Joseph, briefed the Commission on key milestones recorded since the acquisition. The presentation focused on efforts to strengthen operational efficiency, improve customer service delivery, enhance financial sustainability, and deploy innovation to support growth across the distribution network.
Transgrid Enerco also outlined initiatives aimed at modernising operations and improving electricity service delivery, including ongoing collaboration with Siemens and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) on network modernisation and operational improvements within the Eko DisCo franchise area.
Among the key initiatives highlighted were:

-The company's collaboration with Siemens and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) to support network modernization and operational improvements.

-The deployment of the Eko Power App to provide customers with easier access to electricity services, billing information, and complaint resolution.

-Strategic partnerships with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to improve power availability and supply reliability within the franchise area.

-The integration of National Identification Number (NIN) validation into customer processes to strengthen customer identity management and data integrity.

-The implementation of a Credit Bureau integration framework aimed at promoting responsible credit culture, improving customer profiling, and enhancing revenue recovery.

Following the presentation, the Chairman of NERC, Dr. Musiliu Oseni, alongside other Commissioners, reviewed the report and offered observations on the company's progress and future plans. The Commission noted the milestones recorded so far and agreed that further review and engagement would be undertaken to ensure continued alignment with regulatory objectives and the broader goal of improving electricity service delivery to consumers.

FONER Steps Up Coordination to Strengthen Nigeria’s Evolving Electricity Market

The Forum of Nigerian Electricity Regulators (FONER) has reaffirmed its commitment to a more coordinated, transparent, and responsive electricity regulatory environment, following its second meeting held on Thursday 27th August, 2026 in Abuja with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and State Electricity Regulatory Commissions (SERCs).

At the meeting, regulators placed strong emphasis on the need for improved access to timely, reliable, and real-time operational data from distribution companies, particularly at the feeder level. Discussions also highlighted Band A supply performance and the importance of stronger state-level oversight to support better regulatory decisions and improved service delivery to electricity consumers.

Participants further considered how technology can support market transparency, including the possible deployment of Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled monitoring systems and stronger data infrastructure across the electricity value chain. These measures were identified as critical to enhancing visibility, performance monitoring, and accountability within the sector.

The Forum also reviewed key operational and regulatory matters affecting the market, including market settlement, sub-distribution company operations, asset delineation, and metering. Members agreed that sustained technical engagement and closer collaboration between federal and state regulators remain essential to addressing these issues effectively.

A major milestone of the meeting was the review and adoption of FONER’s Business Rules, which provide a clearer operational framework for the Forum. The Rules reinforce FONER’s role as a voluntary platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing, peer learning, and regulatory collaboration among electricity regulators across Nigeria.

By bringing NERC and SERCs together, FONER continues to provide an important platform for aligning regulatory priorities, sharing practical experiences, and developing coordinated responses to emerging challenges in Nigeria’s electricity market. The Forum stated that it will continue to promote innovation, effective oversight, and regulatory cooperation in support of a reliable, efficient, and sustainable electricity sector for consumers and stakeholders nationwide.

NERC Inaugurates Interim Board of KAEDC, Visits Military Formations in Kaduna

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, inaugurated the new Interim Board of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDC), pursuant to the Commission’s Intervention Order, issued recently.

NERC had, through Order No. NERC/2026/08, dissolved the Board of Directors of KAEDC following repeated failures to meet market obligations and other prescribed performance indices.

The Commission subsequently constituted a five-member Interim Board of Special Directors, chaired by Dr. Abdullahi Garba, for an initial period of one year, alongside an Interim Administrator, Abubakar Umar Hashidu, appointed for an initial six-month period, to drive the reset of the distribution company.

Shortly after the inauguration, a joint delegation of NERC, the newly inaugurated board, KAEDC’s management and staff paid a courtesy visit to the Headquarters, One Division of the Nigerian Army in Kaduna. They were received by the General Officer Commanding and senior officers of the Division.

The delegation was also at the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna, where they were received by the Commandant and principal officers of the Academy.

Transfer of Regulatory Oversight of the Electricity Market in Akwa Ibom State to AKSERC

In compliance with the amended Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFRN) and the Electricity Act 2023 (Amended), the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (“NERC” or the “Commission”) has issued an order to transfer regulatory oversight of the electricity market in Akwa Ibom State from the Commission to the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission (AKSERC).

Recall that with the EA 2023, the Commission retains the role as a central regulator with regulatory oversight on the inter-state/international generation, transmission, supply, trading and system operations.

The EA also mandates any state that intends to establish and regulate intrastate electricity markets to deliver a formal notification of its processes and requests NERC to transfer regulatory authority over electricity operations in the state to the State Regulator.

The transfer Order by NERC has the following provisions:

- Direct Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc (PHEDC) to incorporate a subsidiary (PHEDC SubCo) to assume responsibilities for intrastate supply and distribution of electricity in Akwa Ibom State from PHEDC.

- PHEDC shall complete the incorporation of PHEDC SubCo within 60 days from 18th August 2026. The subcompany shall apply for and obtain licence for the intrastate supply and distribution of electricity from AKSERC, among other directives.

All transfers envisaged by this Order shall be completed by 17th February 2027.

NERC Tasks Interim Board With Resetting KAEDC, Making Asset Viable

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has tasked the newly constituted Interim Board of Special Directors of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Plc (KAEDC) with implementing immediate interventions to reset the utility company and restore it to a sustainable growth trajectory within 12 months.

NERC Chairman, Dr. Musiliu Oseni, gave the charge on Monday, 17 August 2026, while addressing members of the Board and the Interim Administrator of KAEDC.

He recalled that the Commission had undertaken a similar intervention in 2024, which resulted in significant improvement in the performance of the Distribution Company (DisCo) before the erstwhile investors resumed control.

“We expect a lot from you, and the Administrator will bring you up to speed to ensure that you meet the target within one year. Most importantly, we want to begin to see progress immediately,” Dr. Oseni said.

He identified KAEDC’s high Aggregate Technical, Commercial and Collection (ATC&C) losses and significant metering deficit as critical areas requiring urgent attention.

Also speaking, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Ayo Gbeleyi, highlighted the various metering programmes available to KAEDC, urging the management to leverage these initiatives to close the metering gap across its franchise area.

NERC Commissioner for Legal, Licencing and Compliance, Dafe Akpeneye, said the members of the Special Board were carefully selected based on their diverse professional expertise and relevant skills.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the board, Dr. Abdullahi Garba, pledged that the Board would work closely with NERC and BPE to address outstanding issues, strengthen KAEDC’s operational and financial performance, and ultimately make the DisCo viable, saleable and a model for improved performance in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.

Other highlights of the meeting include:
· A task to the board to demonstrate measurable improvements in the company’s performance.
· Ensuring prudent and effective utilisation of funds to achieve improved performance obligations.

· Deploying the board’s expertise effectively to restore KAEDC’s market performance.

· Commitment from the board to work with NERC and BPE to achieve the objectives of the intervention.
