【Visit to Nigeria by Mr. Kobayashi, Chairman, Policy Research Council, LDP (Japan)】

From 30 April to 1 May, Mr. Takayuki Kobayashi, Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party’s Policy Research Council, and his delegation visited Nigeria.

During the stay, he exchanged views with H.E. Amb. Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sen. Akume, SGF, Sen. Lokpobiri, Hon. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Sen. Bagudu, Hon. Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, H.E. Dr. Uuzoka-Anite, Honorable Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planninng, and business representatives on strengthening relations between the two countries.

[Kodomo no Hi]
On May 5, Japan celebrates Kodomo no Hi (Children’s Day), a special occasion dedicated to wishing for the health, happiness, and bright future of children. 👧👦

One of the most beautiful sights during this celebration is the display of koinobori (carp streamers) 🎏, which are flown outside homes. The carp is a symbol of strength, courage, and perseverance, representing the hope that children will grow up strong and resilient. Families also take time to celebrate their children with special meals and traditions, creating joyful moments together. 💛

【The 2nd ASEAN Mini Bazaar] 🇯🇵

On 25 April, Ambassador SUZUKI participated in the 2nd ASEAN Mini Bazaar held at the Royal Thai Embassy and Embassy of the Philippines. It brought ASEAN and East Asian country officials in Abuja together in a vibrant celebration of culture, unity, and friendship.

Alongside fellow ambassadors and distinguished guests, Ambassador SUZUKI joined in the symbolic ribbon-cutting and tour of the various cultural stalls. He also generously donated specially prepared cakes, which were warmly received and enjoyed by visitors throughout the day. 🍰✨

We thank the ASEAN Committee in Abuja (ACA) and participants for making the event lively and very successful.

[Japan 🇯🇵 meets Norway 🇳🇴 in Abuja]

On 22 April, Ambassador SUZUKI 🇯🇵 joined Ambassador Baera 🇳🇴 for the Japanese Sushi & Norwegian Salmon Reception in partnership with our embassy. It was a beautiful evening of food, culture and connection as guests enjoyed a blend of Japanese and Norwegian cuisines.

The sushi, tempura, and expertly prepared Norwegian salmon dishes were an excellent showcase of a cultural harmony between Japan and Norway.🌏🍽️

We sincerely thank Norwegian team and all our guests for joining us and making the evening a memorable success. 💫

The Japan International MANGA Award Executive Committee (Chairperson: Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs) is launching the 20th Japan International MANGA Award cycle and is now accepting applications.
Applications are open from April 15 through June 30, 2026 (JST).
We look forward to receiving entries from MANGA artists worldwide!

The Art of Shodō (Japanese Calligraphy)

Did you know that writing can be an art form? In Japan, Shodō (書道), the traditional art of calligraphy, goes beyond simply putting words on paper. It is a practice of discipline and balance. Using a brush and ink, each stroke in Shodō is carefully made to reflect the meaning of the characters and the spirit and focus of the writer. Shodō teaches patience and concentration.
