Nigeria’s identity reform process reached a key milestone with the first public sector stakeholder engagement on the proposed amendment of the NIMC Act. This workshop was convened under the Ecosystem Coordination Strategic Unit of the Nigeria DID4D Project, led by the Project Coordinator of the Unit, Solomon Musa Odole

It brought together government stakeholders to review the current framework, identify gaps, and shape a more responsive, future-fit identity system.

A strengthened NIMC Act will improve coordination, enhance data protection, drive inclusion, and support efficient service delivery, underscoring the importance of stakeholder buy-in in sustainable reform.

The Nigeriadid4d Project under the Project Implementation Unit, PIU led by the Project Coordinator, Ejenavi CPA, CNA, continues to partner the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC in organizing roundtable Workshops with publishers of online newspapers under the umbrella association of Guild of Corporate Online Publishers GOCOP and Guild of Corporate Online Editors in Abuja and Lagos. This has become strategic platform for dialogue with the gatekeepers of the digital media realm.

Over the past three years and counting, this engagement has evolved into a sustained partnership, fostering collaboration, strengthening trust, and shaping conversations around a more inclusive and credible digital information ecosystem.

Today, we reflect on our impactful courtesy visit to the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities () ably led by the Project Coordinator, ECSU, Musa Odole Solomon, FIP, FIIM, PMP® as part of sustained stakeholder engagements under the Nigeria Digital Identification for Development (NDID4D) Project, implemented in collaboration with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC NIGERIA).

The meeting provided an important platform to advance discussions on inclusive identity systems, with a shared understanding that there can be no meaningful conversation about persons with disabilities without their active participation. Ensuring that solutions truly address the unique needs and realities of persons with disabilities requires their voices, perspectives, and lived experiences to shape the process.

Our discussions therefore focused on strengthening collaboration to remove barriers to enrolment, improve accessibility of identity services, and support the project’s objective of increasing the number of persons with a National Identification Number (NIN) while promoting equity, inclusion, and access to essential services.

Engagements like this reaffirm a shared commitment to building a digital identity ecosystem where no one is left behind.
