REP. UKPONG-UDO EXTENDS CONDOLENCE, BUSINESS SUPPORT TO CONSTITUENTS IN IKONO/INI

The Member representing Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong-udo, PhD, has continued his grassroots outreach and compassionate support to constituents through condolence visits and interventions across Ikono and Ini Local Government Areas.

Represented by his Legislative Aide, Engr. Donald Bassey, the lawmaker, on Friday, 22nd May 2026, visited the family of Late Apostle Sunday Akpan Udoh, popularly known as “Teacher Ukang,” at Usung Editaha, Ibiaku Ntok Okpo, Ward 3, Ikono LGA. During the visit, compassionate support was presented to the bereaved family ahead of the burial scheduled for 30th May 2026.

The delegation also visited the family of Late Mkpisong Engr. Solomon S. Jessey, JP, of Ikpe Ikot Nkon, Ward 2, Ini LGA, where another support was presented to assist the family as preparations continue for his burial ceremony, also slated for 30th May 2026.

Speaking during the visits, Engr. Donald Bassey conveyed Rep. Ukpong-udo’s heartfelt condolences to the families, praying for strength, comfort, and divine grace for them during the difficult period. He described the deceased as respected figures whose lives positively impacted their communities and humanity.

In further demonstration of his commitment to economic empowerment and grassroots development, Rep. Ukpong-udo also approved and presented a business support grant to Mr Silas Edet Ukpong of Mbiabong Ukan Ikot Etefia, Ward 4, Ikono LGA, to strengthen and expand his business enterprise.

The Member representing Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong-udo, PhD, has once again demonstrated his commitment to grassroots development and party solidarity, hosting a mini-empowerment programme alongside his participation in the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primaries in Ndiya, Ikono Local Government Area.

During the visit to his ward, Rep. Ukpong-udo provided business grants to five beneficiaries from Ikono Ward 8, Units 12, 15, 16, 21, and 19. The beneficiaries—Mfon Etim Peter, Regina Edet Umoren, Glory Idoroeyin, Margaret Bassey Umoh, and Peter Akpan Akpan—received financial support aimed at strengthening their small businesses and improving their livelihoods.

In a further show of appreciation for loyalty and dedication, the lawmaker presented two vehicles to his longstanding supporters from Ini Local Government Area—Ukeme Wilson of Iwerre Ward 5 and Nsikan Ikot of Mbiakpa Ibakesi Ward 7.

The Member representing Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong-udo, PhD, has been declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the successful conduct of the party’s House of Representatives primaries held on Friday, May 16, 2026.

The primaries, conducted across all 21 ward centres in Ikono and Ini Local Government Areas, recorded massive participation by party delegates, stakeholders, and members, which reflected strong grassroots engagement within the party. At the end of the exercise, Rep. Ukpong-udo secured a total of 19,106 votes, emerging overwhelmingly as the APC flagbearer for the 2027 general elections.

Party officials and observers widely described the process as peaceful, transparent, and credible, commending the orderly conduct of participants and the maturity displayed throughout the exercise.

Represented by his Legislative Aide, Donald Bassey, the lawmaker on Saturday, May 9, 2026, visited the family of Mr Victor Sunday Umoh at Ukpom Ekpene Inuen, Ikono LGA, to sympathise with them over the demise of his brother.
He also visited Mr Ikemesit Emmanuel Inyang of Akpayak, Ikpe, Ward 1, Ini LGA, to condole with the family over the passing of his mother, Late Deaconess Affiong Emmanuel Inyang.

Ahead of the upcoming primary elections, the Ini Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially adopted Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong-udo (PhD) as its consensus candidate for the Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency.

The decision was reached during an enlarged stakeholders meeting held on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at Odoro Ikpe. The gathering, which drew a massive crowd of party leaders, elders, women, and youth representatives from all eleven wards of the Local Government Area, culminated in a signed communique affirming the constituency's direction.

In the communique, the stakeholders praised Ukpong-udo’s "superlative performance" at the National Assembly, citing his robust contributions on the floor, the initiation of vital physical projects, and his impactful human capital development programmes. Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo, PhD., has received the endorsement of key stakeholders in Ini Local Government Area following an enlarged consultative meeting held at the Uyo residence of renowned political leader and former federal lawmaker, Prof. Ini Udoka.

The meeting, which brought together 103 stakeholders from across Ini LGA, formed part of ongoing consultations by Rep. Ukpong-udo ahead of his intention to seek re-election for another tenure in the House of Representatives from 2027 to 2031.

The enlarged consultation came a day after the lawmaker led a delegation of stakeholders from Ikono and Ini Federal Constituency on a similar engagement with senior political leaders in the area.

As part of the ongoing engagements, the lawmaker today visited respected leaders and indigenes of Ini Local Government Area, including Prof. Ini Udoka, a two-term former member of the House of Representatives, and Paul Owoh, a former Local Government Chairman and two-term member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. REP. UKPONG-UDO CELEBRATES 3 SETS OF TWINS, OTHER NEWBORNS

The Macaire Mother and Child Care Programme — a flagship maternal welfare scheme established by the member representing Ikono-Ini Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong-udo, PhD, has celebrated the arrival of 36 new babies, including 3 sets of twins.

As is the tradition since the programme’s launch over five years ago, Rep. Ukpong-udo welcomed the newborns with cash gifts delivered to the 33 new mothers through his Special Assistant on Healthcare Services, Mrs Idara Edet Essien.
The presentation took place at the General Hospital, Ibiaku Ntok Okpo, in Ikono Local Government Area. Grateful beneficiaries expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support they received throughout their pregnancies and commended their representative for his consistent efforts to improve maternal and child health in the constituency.

Launched in November 2019, the Macaire Mother and Child Care Programme was designed to reduce maternal and infant mortality in Akwa Ibom State. It has so far provided vital support and incentives to over 2,000 pregnant women across Ikono and Ini LGAs, encouraging them to seek professional medical care during pregnancy.
Rep. Ukpong-udo continues to urge pregnant women in the constituency to enrol for antenatal care at the General Hospital, Ibiaku Ntok Okpo, and benefit from this impactful initiative.

UKPONG-UDO COMMISSIONS CIVIC CENTRE IN IKOT AKPA EDET, COMMITS TO GRASSROOT DEVELOPMENT

The Member representing Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong-udo, PhD, has commissioned a brand-new Civic Centre in Ikot Akpa Edet, Ndiya, Ikono Local Government Area—personally built and donated to serve as a hub for community engagement and development.
The project, commissioned yesterday, 1st May 2026, will host town hall meetings, youth programmes, social events, and other community-driven initiatives.

In his address, Rep. Ukpong-udo reaffirmed his dedication to people-centred representation, stating that the Civic Centre reflects his commitment to providing infrastructure that directly improves the lives of constituents.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Village Head, Isong Essien, commended the lawmaker for what he described as timely and impactful, noting that the facility would strengthen unity and foster collective progress in the community.

Also speaking, the Village Chairman, Essien Udo James, described the project as a symbol of responsive leadership, while the Youth President, Emmanuel Monday Udo, lauded the initiative as a major boost for youth development and participation.
