Written by Authoress Ola
🥰 Episode Six🥰
She remembered her plans with Ibrahim, his promises–guess they were all lies, as she dressed. She wiped the little tears forming in her eyes as she stepped out of her room.
In the sitting room with baba was Alhaji Usman and his son, Umar chatting with Malam Tanko.
Haleemah came to the sitting room checking out the handsome guy sitting peacefully in her living room.
“Here she is”, Baba said smiling with so much happiness.
“She is really grown up” Alhaji Usman smiled.
“Yes, she's really grown up now see how beautiful and lovely she is”, baba boasted, she is also educated I sent her to school, he added proudly again.
Haleemah was busy checking out the young man, he looks like someone in his late twenties, he also looked educated also. When he flash his teeth he looks like a demigod, like he fell from heaven.
She couldn't believe the man sitting in her living room is a supposed fiance all her thought was that she will be getting married to the old man but it seems the story took a twist.
“Good afternoon, sir” she said with a smile.
“This is Alhaji Usman, my friend and his last son from his first wife, Umar” Baba did the introduction.
“Nice to miss you”
So they are here to discuss your marriage preparation, baba announced
“My marriage”? She asked angrily forgetting the presence of their visitors. I don't understand what you mean by that, how are we supposed to be discussing the marriage I'm not aware of, you think you can just push me anyhow you like or what, she asked feeling furious.
“You think I will allow you marry that man you brought home”? Baba replied angrily that won't happen as long as I'm alive. We are discussing your marriage plans and you better behave yourself.
“I'm not discussing anything”, she said as she made to leave the room.
“Can I have a minute with you”? A voice asked making Haleemah stop in her tracks.
The voice was so angelic it was as if she had never heard a guy's voice before, she imagine how life will be listening to that voice everyday. She was busy lost in his voice when his voice came up again.
“If you don't mind” he added again.
“Okay, but I don't have much time” she said looking away shyly.
They went to the compound to have their discussion, while on their way Haleemah was still busy checking him trying to compare him to Ibrahim. But it was clearly obvious he was more better that Ibrahim, she tried to stop thinking but the more she tried the more she got carried away by his looks.
“I honestly understand how you will feel about the marriage plans” he started, his voice bringing Haleemah back to the present.
I know it will be so hard on you but with the look of things it is quite obvious you can't do anything about it, he said.
“But I have someone I love, can't you tell your father to stop the preparation” she asked looking away from him.
She has been avoiding eyes contact with him as it look like she will follow him home immediately if she start looking into those dreamy eyes.
“I'm sorry but I don't have a say on this” he said helplessly.
“Okay” she said plainly.
It was quite obvious her supposed fiance is in same situation with her, he is also getting married to her because his father want him to do that. She understood his condition as they were both in same boat.
“But I must say Baba really made a nice choice” he said smiling.
“Thanks” she smiled,
Enough of all this marriage discussion I guess we should know ourselves better, he suggested.
“Sure”.
“So I heard you studied Sociology at school” he asked.
“Yeah” she replied feeling so proud of herself.
“Oh, I studied Civil engineering though, I'm an alumni of your school”. He said with a smile.
“Wait you mean you graduated from my school”, she replied looking so surprised.
They started discussing about their experience at school, laughing at each other words, she found out he is twenty-five and he is running of of his father's friend company.
His mother is his father first wife, he is the last child of seven from his mother, apparently her information was about the wives in his father's house wrong his father already took in his sixth wife.
Haleemah couldn't hide her surprise, it was really hard to believe he married many wife after having enough children from his first wife.
“But why six wives after the children your mother gave birth to”, she asked feeling so shocked.
My father love so much children, that was what he told us. My mother gave birth to her sixth child which was also her fifth male child when he took in another wife, the other wife gave birth to three children–all female, then my mother conceive again and she gave birth to me, meaning I have five elder brothers and one sister and they are all married and I also have three elder half-sisters they are also married, after then father has been marrying more wives saying he want plenty children, he explained to Haleemah who was obviously shocked from his explanation.
“So do you believe in marrying many wives” she asked trying to know what is ahead of her.
“No” he smiled, is not really necessary infact having three or four children is okay, he added again. Is better to have two or three children that are well educated and taken care of than to have ten thousand hoodlums you can't provide for, he continue his explanation.
“I really agree with your perspective” she smiled.
“I think we should head inside” he said.
As they got inside, Alhaji Usman accused Umar of taking his wife from everyone to enjoy her to himself, expressing the fact that he couldn't get to know her and lament that they had to start going.
“Don't think of this matter too much”, Umar whispered to her as they left the house.
She got back to her room and decided to text Ibrahim to give him updates on the present situation, maybe it will make him act fast. As she picked her phone to text him she had a change of mind as it occurred to her that Ibrahim might have move on with his life.
She spent the night tossing around on her bed thinking about the demigod she met earlier in her house.
