COMMUNITY SAFETY PARTNERSHIP INITIATIVE AKWETE: CP ABIA PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO NDLEA CONDUCTS WORKING VISITS TO BENDE/AKWETE POLICE DIVISIONAL HEADQUARTERS

1. In line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc+, NPM, yesterday, 04/09/2026, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc+, mnips, JP, continued the Police Community Safety Partnership Initiative in the Akwete Area Command.

2. As part of the engagement, the CP, alongside other senior officers covering the Aba/Akwete jurisdiction, paid a courtesy visit to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Abia State Command, to strengthen inter-agency collaboration in ensuring safety and security across the State. He acknowledged that drug abuse is a major factor fueling crime and emphasized the need for unity of purpose and partnership in combating criminality to the barest minimum. The State Commander, NDLEA, CN Leonard Chinagorom Nnadim, PhD, warmly received the CP, assured him of sustained cooperation in intelligence sharing and joint operations, and appreciated the inclusion of the Area Commander and Divisional Police Officers in his jurisdiction as part of the entourage, noting that it is imperative for fostering stronger working relationships. The Commander also briefed the CP on various drugs, patterns of abuse, and testing procedures.

3. Thereafter, the CP proceeded to the Akwete Area Command, where he held an expanded Community Safety Partnership meeting with key stakeholders. Participants included Local Government Mayors, Traditional Rulers, women and youth representatives, transport unions, hotel operators, farmers and traders associations, Abia State Homeland Watch, vigilante groups, community policing representatives, hunters, herders, and cattle rearers, among others.

4. During the interactive session, stakeholders raised concerns bordering on manpower and logistics shortages, the apprehension of suspects without proper information leading to families being unaware of their whereabouts, alleged demands during investigations to sponsor cases, involvement of the Police in civil matters, banditry along the Ukwa West axis, and incessant killings and snatching of motorcyclists. They also emphasized the need for improved collaboration between the Police, traditional institutions, and the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in the Area Command.

5. In his response, CP Afolabi addressed the concerns and reiterated the IGP’s zero-tolerance stance on unprofessional conduct. He assured that measures are already in place to check misconduct and emphasized that any officer found wanting would face disciplinary action. The CP also shared his contact details with stakeholders to enhance accessibility and accountability.

6. He directed Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to ensure that henceforth, when a suspect is arrested, the Police formation to which the suspect is taken should not be concealed from the relatives. He further instructed officers to collaborate with approved community security outfits to mitigate manpower challenges. The CP also highlighted the introduction of motorcycle patrols and cautioned that such patrol teams should consist of not less than three motorcycles and not more than six officers, adequately armed, to improve feasibility in non-motorable areas, thereby enhancing operational effectiveness. He assured stakeholders that identified security threats would be strategically addressed, noting that the Command has outlined capacity-building workshops focused on intelligence gathering, crime mapping and crime nipping and professional development. He further mandated that contact numbers of Divisions and the Area Command be visibly displayed to improve public access.

7. On preventive security awareness, the CP advised residents to adopt basic safety measures, including the use of pedal and wheel locks for vehicles, maintaining good neighbourliness, and promptly reporting suspicious persons. He encouraged community leaders to involve the Police in employment processes for proper profiling and documentation. He also urged local security groups to maintain dedicated communication lines and assured them of inclusion in upcoming training programmes by the Command.

8. As part of his working visit, the CP inspected Obehie and Akwete Divisional Headquarters, as well as the Area Command. He charged officers to uphold professionalism, maintain proper conduct, adhere strictly to the rule of law, and comply with the Nigeria Police Force social media policy. He emphasized the importance of proper dress code, discipline, effective traffic management, and collaboration with community security outfits. The CP further assured officers of ongoing retraining initiatives aimed at enhancing their capacity to serve the public effectively.

ABIA COMMAND STRENGTHENS COLLABORATION WITH NIGERIAN NAVY COLLEGE OF ACCOUNT AND FINANCE

Today, 03/09/2026, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc+, mnips, JP, as part of his ongoing working visit across the Command, paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Navy College of Account and Finance, Owerrenta.

The purpose of the visit was to strengthen inter-agency collaboration. CP Wilfred emphasized that unity of purpose is key to achieving sustainable security in the state . He requested that both institutions collaborate in capacity-building training programmes, noting that the Command has commenced one scheduled for next week. The CP also commended the neatness and coordination of the environment.

The Commandant, CDRE B.U. Quadiri, alongside senior officers, warmly received the CP and assured collaboration and mutual participation in training workshops. Additionally, he highlighted that the College offers a variety of courses, including accounting, finance, management, and other professional development programmes, which are open to officers from other agencies.

ABIA POLICE COMMAND STRENGTHENS PARTNERSHIP WITH NIGERIAN RED CROSS

Today, 02/08/2026, as part of his ongoing working visit across the Command, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc+, mnips, JP, paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Abia State Branch.

The Commissioner of Police was warmly received by the Branch Secretary, Comr. Nzubechi Akubuako, on behalf of the Branch Chairman, who was unavoidably absent.

During the visit, the CP stated that the purpose of the engagement was to strengthen inter-agency collaboration, particularly in areas of humanitarian support, emergency response, and community safety. He emphasized that the Police and the Red Cross share a common responsibility in safeguarding lives, especially during crises and public emergencies.

The Red Cross team appreciated the visit and assured the Command of their readiness to collaborate effectively. They offered to organize first aid and emergency response training for Police personnel. The team also requested improved security coverage around their office location.

In response, the Commissioner of Police appreciated their commitment and partnership. He guided them on the appropriate procedure for formally requesting enhanced security coverage by writing officially, while he encouraged them to remain in constant contact with the Ubakala Divisional Police Headquarters covering their jurisdiction.

The visit further reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to building strong partnerships with critical stakeholders in ensuring public safety and effective service delivery.

ABIA POLICE STRENGTHENS COLLABORATION WITH NIGERIAN IMMIGRATION SERVICE

Today, 02/09/2026, at about 1300hrs, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc+, mnips, JP, paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Abia State Command.

The visit was aimed at strengthening inter-agency collaboration. The CP emphasized that no security agency can thrive in isolation, noting that effective security is best achieved through unity of purpose and coordinated efforts among security institutions. He further requested the participation of the NIS in the Command’s upcoming Capacity Building Training Programme and stressed the importance of timely information and intelligence sharing in combating crime across the state.

The Controller of Immigration, Mrs. Justina Nkechi Owa, alongside her management team, warmly received the Commissioner. She commended the initiative and assured the Command of the Service’s readiness to provide officers for the forthcoming training programme, as well as sustain collaboration in intelligence and information sharing.

She also highlighted additional areas of cooperation, particularly in tackling human trafficking and the need for proper documentation, including the use of residence permits (Brown Cards), to verify and regulate the activities of foreigners within the state. The Controller reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to working closely with the Police Command to enhance security in Abia State.

The reason for the visit was to enhance inter-agency collaboration between both institutions, Information Sharing and intelligence and Participation in the upcoming capacity building Training Program by the command as the CP in his address stressed that inter- agency rivalry is for the unexposed and a thing of the past, to achieve security we must come in unity of purpose to ensure a secure Abia state

ABIA POLICE COMMAND STRENGTHENS COLLABORATION WITH THE NIGERIAN CORRECTIONAL SERVICE.

Today, 01/09/2026, at about 1300hrs, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc+, mnips, JP, paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Correctional Service, Abia State Command.

The visit was aimed at strengthening inter-agency collaboration between both agencies, as well as seeking their participation in the Command’s upcoming capacity-building training programme. The CP emphasized the importance of synergy among security agencies, noting that effective collaboration remains key to achieving sustainable peace and security in the State.

The Controller of Corrections, CC Blessing Ifeoma Nwanyanwu and other Senior Officers warmly received the CP and assured him of the Command’s readiness to collaborate, particularly in the area of information sharing. She also confirmed their participation in the training programme and appreciated the CP for the visit requesting that the existing cooperation and support extended to the Nigerian Correctional Service by the Police be sustained.

INTER-AGENCY COLLABORATION: ABIA POLICE COMMAND STRENGTHENS PARTNERSHIP WITH FEDERAL ROAD SAFETY CORPS

In continuation of the working visit of the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc+, mnips, JP, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police to foster professionalism, efficiency, and inter-agency collaboration, today, 01/09/2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Abia Sector Command.

The purpose of the visit was to enhance collaboration between both institutions and participation in the Command’s upcoming capacity-building training programme, stressing that a security officer who is not properly trained or regularly updated poses a danger to himself, his institution, and the people he is meant to protect. He further stated that inter-agency rivalry is a trait of the unexposed, emphasizing that effective security can only be achieved when all agencies work together as a team.

The CP was warmly received by the Sector Commander, CC Ngozi I. Ezeoma, alongside other senior officers of the Command. She appreciated the CP for the visit and acknowledged the Nigeria Police as the lead internal security agency. While highlighting areas where the FRSC requires collaboration with the Police in the State, she expressed the Command’s readiness to support and actively participate in the training and other joint initiatives, encouraging sustained cooperation and reaffirming that inter-agency clashes are unnecessary and counterproductive.

ABIA STATE POLICE COMMAND STRENGTHENS COLLABORATION WITH FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES IN THE STATE

In furtherance of strengthening inter-agency collaboration, today, 31/08/2026, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc+, mnips, JP, paid a courtesy visit to the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Homeland Security, Fire and Medical Emergency, Mr. Chukwunneye Alajemba, as well as the Chief Fire Officer of the State Fire Service.

The purpose of the visit was to enhance collaboration between the Police and the Fire Service. The CP commended the Governor for the ongoing retrofitting works and upgrading of equipment in the State Fire Service, stressing that every agency plays a vital role and improved collaboration will yield greater results.

He emphasized the need for coordinated emergency response, intelligence sharing on fire-related incidents such as arson, joint training and simulation exercises, and seamless communication during emergencies to ensure timely intervention, protection of lives and property, and effective post-incident investigations. He also obtained the Fire Service emergency contact lines for Umuahia and Aba and shared to various Divisions and Formations of the Police Command to aid in arson-related investigations and other emergencies as the need arises.

The CP was warmly received by the SSA on Homeland Security, Fire and Medical Emergency, the Chief Fire Officer, and their team. They expressed appreciation for the visit and assured him of their full support and cooperation. The CP was thereafter taken on a tour of the facility, which is currently undergoing renovation.
