FACTS OF THE CASE
Sequel to a distress call received at the Anti-Kidnapping Unit on 04/10/2026, that an unknown caller called Mrs. Obinna and demanded the sum of ₦5,000,000 (Five Million Naira) if they wanted to see their missing daughter.

Leveraging on actionable intelligence, the above suspects were apprehended by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Abia State Command, in Umuimo Community, Osisioma Ngwa. The suspect was rescued and exhibits recovered, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other gang members of the syndicate.

The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, reiterates the Command’s commitment to combating kidnapping and other forms of criminality in the state.

He further assures members of the public that the Command will continue to leverage actionable intelligence, community partnerships, and other operational strategies to ensure the safety and security of residents.

Members of the public are therefore encouraged to remain vigilant and provide the Police with useful information by reporting to the nearest police station or contacting the Command through its dedicated hotlines.

ABIA POLICE COMMAND RECEIVES IMMIGRATION COMPTROLLER REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO INTER-AGENCY COLLABORATION

Today, 8/10/2026. The Abia State Police Command received the Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Abia State Command, Comptroller A. A. Mamma, and her management team on a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters.

The visit was aimed at further strengthening the existing partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Immigration Service, particularly in the areas of intelligence sharing, information exchange, and coordinated efforts towards tackling security challenges in the State.

Speaking during the visit, the Comptroller reiterated her commitment to deepening the cordial relationship between both agencies. She emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration and timely intelligence sharing in enhancing effective security operations. She also expressed appreciation to the Commissioner of Police for the warm reception accorded her and her delegation.

Responding, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc(+), mnips, JP, warmly received the Comptroller and her team. He appreciated the visit and reaffirmed his commitment to fostering unity of purpose and stronger collaboration among security agencies in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police

The CP stated that, since assuming office, he had consistently emphasized the need for security agencies in the State to work together, share relevant intelligence, and support one another in the collective interest of security in the State.

He assured the Nigeria Immigration Service of the Command’s continued cooperation and support, stressing that effective inter-agency collaboration remains essential to maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and creating a safer and more secure Abia State.

PRESS RELEASE

ABIA COMMAND REUNITES FOUND CHILD WITH FAMILY

1. The Abia State Police Command has successfully reunited a six-year-old child, found in Aba, Abia State, with his family from Akwa Ibom State.

2. On 25/09/2026, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Abia State Command, while on patrol around Brass Junction, along the Aba–Owerri Road, Abia State, found the six-year-old child, who identified himself as being from Itam, Akwa Ibom State.

3. Leveraging actionable intelligence, the Command commenced efforts to trace the child’s family. These efforts yielded positive results, and yesterday, 05/10/2026, the child was successfully reunited with his family after the necessary verification established their relationship.

4. The Abia State Police Command reiterates its commitment to protecting the lives and property of residents and ensuring the safety and well-being of children within the State.

5. The Command also encourages members of the public to promptly report cases of missing or found children to the nearest Police Station or contact the Police through the appropriate emergency channels, as timely information remains crucial in ensuring their safety and reunification with their families.

CP ABIA COMMISERATES WITH CORPS MEMBERS: BOOSTS THEIR MORALE GUARANTEES SAFETY IN ABIA

1. Following the unfortunate incident where some corps members en route to camp were kidnapped in Imo State, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc+, mnips, JP, on 05/10/2026, visited the NYSC Orientation Camp at Umunna, Bende LGA, for the 2026 Batch C Stream 1 orientation exercise to commiserate with corps members, boost their morale, and guarantee their safety in Abia State.

2. Present at the event were the NYSC State Coordinator, the Camp Commandant, camp officials, sister security agencies, and corps members deployed to Abia State. The CP and his entourage were warmly received with a guard of honour, Taekwondo demonstrations, and welcome songs by the corps members, reflecting the discipline and vibrant spirit within the camp.

3. In his address, CP Afolabi commended the camp management for their commitment to discipline, orderliness, and effective coordination, as observed during his visit. He formally welcomed the corps members to Abia State and reassured them of their safety, emphasizing that Abia State remains one of the safest state in the South-East.

4. As partners in crime prevention, the CP sensitized the corps members on key security tips and personal safety measures. He also provided them with essential contact details, including those of Divisional Police Officers, Area Commanders, Tactical Team Commanders, and the Command’s emergency hotlines, urging them to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities or security concerns. He encouraged the corps members to make the most of their service year in Abia by building meaningful relationships, embracing cultural diversity, and creating lasting positive experiences, while gaining firsthand insight into life in the South-East.

5. He further stressed that the Command has put in place robust and proactive security measures to ensure a peaceful and secure environment across the state. He further disclosed that Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) have been mandated to take full responsibility for the safety of corps members at their various Places of Primary Assignment (PPAs), ensuring close monitoring and rapid response where necessary. Reaffirming the Command’s operational strategy, the CP noted that the Police are consistently taking the fight to criminal elements and their hideouts, thereby preventing threats before they materialize.

6. The corps members expressed deep appreciation for the visit, noting that it significantly boosted their confidence, strengthened their sense of security, and reaffirmed their trust in the Police as friends and partners in ensuring security throughout their service year.

COMMUNITY SAFETY PARTNERSHIP – UMUAHIA AREA COMMAND

In continuation of the ongoing Community Safety Partnership Abia State Command, on 03/10/2026, the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc+, mnips, JP, was at the Umuahia North Local Government Hall for a stakeholders’ engagement.

The meeting brought together the Mayor of Umuahia North LGA, Chief Hon. Smart Iheoma, traditional rulers, community security vigilantes, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), youth and women groups, traders, farmers/herders groups, and other stakeholders drawn from Central Police Station Umuahia, Ubakala, World Bank, Ikwuano, Mike Okiro, and Ohuhu Divisional Police Headquarters.

During the interactive session, several challenges were raised, including inadequate manpower and logistics, unprofessional conduct, lack of collaboration, the need for continuous community engagement and enlightenment, and the need for training of local community security groups.

In his response, the Commissioner of Police directed officers to strengthen collaboration with approved community security groups to address manpower challenges. He also highlighted the introduction of motorcycle patrols, emphasizing that such patrol teams should consist of not less than three motorcycles and not more than six properly armed officers. This, he noted, would improve mobility and operational effectiveness in non-motorable areas.

The CP assured stakeholders that identified security concerns would be strategically addressed. He further disclosed that the Command has outlined capacity-building programmes focusing on intelligence gathering, crime mapping, proactive crime prevention, and professional development.

Additionally, he directed that contact numbers of Divisional Police Headquarters and the Area Command be visibly displayed to enhance public access, including emergency lines, complaint response units, and other relevant command contacts.

On preventive security awareness, the Commissioner of Police advised residents to adopt basic safety measures such as the use of pedal and wheel locks for vehicles, maintaining good neighbourliness, and promptly reporting suspicious activities. He also encouraged community leaders to involve the Police in employment processes for proper profiling and documentation.

He assured local security groups of their inclusion in upcoming training programmes organized by the Command.

ABIA STATE POLICE COMMAND UNITY FITNESS WALK

The Abia State Police Command, in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police on professionalism, collaboration, sustainable partnerships, and community policing, today, 03/10/2026, successfully held a Unity Fitness Walk in Umuahia, Abia State

The fitness walk, which commenced at the Police Headquarters, Umuahia, had active participation from sister security agencies and key stakeholders, including the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Sports, Comrade Onyebuchi
Chukwu. Representatives from the Military, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Fire Service, and Forest Guard were all present at the event.

Addressing the participants, the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc+, mnips, JP, stated that the initiative was designed to foster unity, strengthen inter-agency collaboration, and promote physical fitness. It also served as a strategic effort to build synergy and preparedness ahead of the upcoming elections, ensuring a unified approach towards maintaining peace, safety, and security across the state.

The walk further reinforced the commitment of all participating agencies to work collectively in safeguarding lives and property, while promoting a healthier and more resilient workforce.

ABIA STATE POLICE COMMAND UNITY FITNESS WALK

The walk is scheduled to hold tomorrow, Saturday, 3rd October 2026. The Take-off point is at the Police Headquarters, Umuahia, by 0600hrs.

The event attracted top government functionaries, heads of sister security agencies, and key stakeholders across the state, and was marked with colourful ceremonial activities in commemoration of Nigeria’s independence, reflecting on the nation’s journey, resilience, and aspirations for a more united and secure future.

A major highlight of the celebration was the impressive Guard of Honour and a well-coordinated parade by police personnel, showcasing discipline, professionalism, and operational readiness by officers of the Nigeria Police Force Abia State Command

The presence of the Commissioner of Police, other security chiefs, government officials, and stakeholders underscores the collective commitment to national unity, public safety, and the sustenance of democratic values.
