WDC OGUN STATE CHAIRMAN CALLS FOR STRONGER COMMUNITY OWNERSHIP OF PRIMARY HEALTHCARE FACILITIES*

_Odeda, Ogun State | 4th September 2026_

*The Chairman, Ward Development Committee (WDC), Ogun State Council, Alhaji Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, JP,* has called for *stronger community ownership, regular monitoring and collective responsibility to improve the functionality and service delivery of primary healthcare facilities across the state.*

He made the call on *Friday, 4th September 2026,* during a *Quality Assurance and Familiarisation Visit* to *Obete Health Centre* and *Abule Titun Health Centre* in *Obete Ward, Odeda Local Government Area.*

The visit provided an opportunity to assess the general condition of the facilities, interact with health workers and identify areas requiring stronger community support and collaboration towards improving Primary Health Care delivery.

As part of the engagement, the State Chairman also held a *Town Hall Meeting* with community leaders, traditional and religious leaders, as well as representatives of various ethnic groups from Obete and Abule Titun communities.

Addressing the stakeholders, *Alhaji Asiwaju Dapo Wahab* emphasised the importance of community ownership, accountability and collective responsibility in strengthening the two health facilities. He called for sustained cooperation among the WDC, health workers and community stakeholders to improve service delivery, protect health infrastructure and encourage residents to make proper use of the facilities.

He urged stakeholders in Obete and Abule Titun to take greater ownership of their health facilities and support regular monitoring and community-based interventions.

The community leader in *Obete Ward, Hon. Musiliu Akindele,* expressed appreciation to Asiwaju and his team for the timely visit, describing the engagement as an important step towards strengthening healthcare delivery in the community. He urged the State Chairman to make regular visits to Obete Ward to further sensitise community members and deepen their understanding of the importance of community participation and proper utilisation of the Primary Health Care facilities.

The State Chairman was accompanied by *Hon. Luqman Adeyinka, State Assistant General Secretary, WDC Ogun State Council,* and *Alhaji Tokunbo Akinfenwa, State Legal Adviser, WDC Ogun State Council.*

The visit reaffirmed the commitment of the WDC Ogun State Council to strengthening Primary Health Care through effective community participation, monitoring, advocacy and collaboration.

WDC OGUN STATE TAKES PRIMARY HEALTH CARE AWARENESS CAMPAIGN TO OBAFEMI OWODE.*

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community awareness and improve the utilisation of *Primary Health Care (PHC)* services, the *Ward Development Committee (WDC), Ogun State Council,* under the leadership of the *State Chairman, Alhaji Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, JP,* on *Friday, 21st August 2026,* led a *health promotion outreach* to *Siun Community in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area,* with *Siun Health Centre, Ajura ward as the target facility.*

The outreach covered *Siun Market and its environs,* where community members and market women were sensitised on the importance of utilising Primary Health Care facilities and taking advantage of available healthcare services within their community.

The programme further demonstrated the commitment of the WDC Ogun State Council to strengthening collaboration with Community Development Associations (CDAs), religious and traditional institutions, youth and women groups, and Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) in promoting PHC services and encouraging active community participation in healthcare delivery.

The State Chairman led the outreach alongside the Chairmen and members of WDC, Obafemi Owode Local Government, Senior health workers present include the OIC/Matron Siun Health centre, the Local Government Health Educator, and representative of the Health Secretary. Also in attendance was a representative of the Kabiyesi of Siun, community youths and women, as well as representatives of Community-Based Organisations.

The engagement provided an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between community structures and the healthcare system while encouraging residents to make better use of Primary Health Care services available within their communities.

*WDC OKE-ARO/IBARAGUN HONOURS ASIWAJU DAPO WAHAB WITH AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

*The Ward Development Committee (WDC), Oke-Aro/Ibaragun, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State,* has honoured the *State Chairman of the Ward Development Committee, Ogun State Council, Alhaji Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, JP,* with an *Award of Excellence* in recognition of his selfless and long-standing service, outstanding leadership, and contributions to the development of the healthcare delivery system in Ogun State.

The award was presented during the *handing-over and inauguration ceremony* of the new executive members of the WDC Oke-Aro/Ibaragun, held at the Itoki Health Centre, Itoki, Ifo Local Government Area, on *Wednesday, 19 August 2026.*

Speaking at the event, Asiwaju Dapo Wahab emphasized the importance of team building, unity, accountability and collective responsibility in achieving sustainable development at the grassroots.

He charged the newly inaugurated WDC executive, *led by Pastor Ayoola S. Amazing, JP,* to uphold integrity, transparency and responsible leadership, urging members to conduct themselves above reproach and always put the interests of the community first.

The State Chairman expressed his appreciation to the outgoing executive and the newly inaugurated leadership, as well as the entire *WDC Oke-Aro/Ibaragun,* for the honour bestowed on him.

He particularly commended the immediate past *chairman, Eminent Job Alao Odeleye,* for his achievements and contributions to the development of the WDC Oke-Aro/Ibaragun during his tenure. He acknowledged the progress recorded by the Committee under his leadership and encouraged the new executive to build on those achievements.

Asiwaju Dapo Wahab further stressed that effective collaboration between WDCs, health facility personnel, community leaders, government authorities and other stakeholders remains essential to strengthening Primary Health Care services and improving health outcomes across communities.

The ceremony brought together community leaders, health officials, WDC representatives and other *stakeholders, including Elder Awe, General Secretary, Ogun State Community Development Council; Prince Abiodun Adewoyin, Universal Area CDC Chairman; Pastor Timothy Oyedemi, Chairman, Togas Area CDC; Elder Samson Tejuosho, Community Leader; Alhaji Bola Teriba, Community Leader; Mr. Ekanoye Kolawole, Community Leader; Alhaja Kehinde Wosilat, former Vice-Chairman, Ifo Local Government; Mr. Oduyemi Olatunde, Ifo Local Government Health Educator; the Apex Nurse, Ifo Local Government; the Focal Person; and the Itoki OIC, Mrs. Akeju Olusola,* among other distinguished guests.

*WDC OGUN STATE PARTICIPATES IN SIMULTANEOUS LAUNCH OF NATIONAL COMMUNITY FOOD BANK PROGRAMME ACROSS THREE LGAs*

_Abeokuta South, Ogun State | 18th August 2026_

The *Ward Development Committee (WDC), Ogun State Council,* participated in the *South-West Zonal Launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme,* held simultaneously on *Tuesday, 18th August 2026,* at designated Primary Health Care Centres *across Sagamu, Abeokuta South and Yewa North Local Government Areas* of Ogun State.

The programme, held under the chairmanship of *Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,* and hosted in Ogun State by *His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, Governor of Ogun State,* was designed to provide food support to vulnerable families and strengthen food security within communities.

In Ogun State, the simultaneous distribution took place at *Makun Primary Health Centre, Sagamu LGA; Kugba Primary Health Centre, Abeokuta South LGA; and Ibile Primary Health Centre, Yewa North LGA.* while WDC members and other stakeholders participated at the designated centres within their respective Local Government Areas.

At *Kugba Primary Health Centre, Abeokuta South,* the *State Chairman of WDC Ogun State Council, Alhaji Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, JP,* formally declared the food distribution open, signalling the commencement of the presentation of food packages to beneficiaries. The beneficiaries included *children, pregnant women and lactating mothers.*

The exercise at Kugba PHC was attended by the WDC State leadership and other stakeholders, including representatives of the *National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Mr. Onakoya, Food and Nutrition Officer, Abeokuta South Local Government,* representatives of *Pathfinder International,* community leaders and members of the Women Forum.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Alhaji Asiwaju Dapo Wahab appreciated the *Federal Government of Nigeria,* through *Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu,* for the initiative and the gesture extended to vulnerable members of the communities. He also appreciated the Ogun State Government, through the *Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker,* for supporting the implementation of the programme across the participating communities in *Abeokuta South and Sagamu Local Government Areas.*

The WDC State Chairman urged beneficiaries to make proper and responsible use of the food packages for the intended purpose, stressing that appropriate utilisation would help achieve the expected positive impact of the intervention.

He expressed appreciation to all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the programme, particularly the *Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board* and *WDC* members who participated actively in the mobilisation and implementation of the intervention.

The simultaneous launch and distribution across the three locations demonstrated the importance of community-based structures and strategic collaboration in ensuring that government interventions reach vulnerable populations at the grassroots.

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community awareness and improve the utilisation of Primary Health Care (PHC) services, the Ward Development Committee (WDC), Ogun State Council, under the leadership of the State Chairman, Alhaji Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, JP, on Friday, 14th August 2026, led a health promotion outreach in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, with Ijeja Health Centre as the target facility.

The outreach covered Omida Market and the Justrite environs, where community members and market women were engaged on the importance of utilising Primary Health Care facilities and taking advantage of available healthcare services.

The programme also highlighted the commitment of the WDC Ogun State Council to collaborating with Community Development Associations (CDAs), religious and traditional institutions, youths and women groups, and Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) to promote PHC services and strengthen community participation in healthcare delivery.

WDC OGUN STATE ADVOCATES COMMUNITY-LED APPROACH TO ROUTINE IMMUNIZATION*

_Abeokuta, Ogun State / 13th August 2026_

The Ward Development Committee (WDC), Ogun State Council, participated in a *Multi-Stakeholder Townhall on Routine Immunization (RI) Advocacy and Promotion,* held in Ogun State with the theme: *“Role of Religious Leaders, Traditional Institutions and WDC in Sustaining Community-Led Advocacy for Routine Immunization.”*

The programme, organised by *Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board* in collaboration with *Pathfinder International* brought together WDC representatives, religious leaders, trade associations, community stakeholders, RI Champions and health officials to discuss barriers to vaccine acceptance and ways to strengthen community participation.

The *Acting Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Esther Ogunsilu,* welcomed stakeholders to the engagement and emphasized the importance of collaboration in strengthening Routine Immunization. She noted that *every child should be fully immunized by one year of age,* stressing that community participation remains one of the fundamental principles of Primary Health Care.

Speaking during the discussion, the *WDC State Chairman, Alhaji Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, JP,* identified misinformation, erosion of trust, fear of vaccine reactions, limited community involvement and weak ownership as some of the challenges affecting Routine Immunization. *Asiwaju called for a change from _“vaccination delivered to the community” to “vaccination planned with the community.”_*

The engagement also featured discussions on HPV vaccination, community perspectives, group presentations and practical strategies for improving vaccine acceptance. WDC Ogun State reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening community participation and supporting Routine Immunization across the 236 wards of the state.

The strategic engagement focused on strengthening the coordination of outbreak response in Ogun State, with emphasis on improving preparedness, coordination, timely response, and effective collaboration among relevant stakeholders in addressing public health emergencies.

The engagement was chaired by the *Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker,* and attended by key stakeholders, including the *Acting Executive Secretary, Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board; State Coordinator, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA); representatives of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Abuja; Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Ministry of Health; Executive Secretary, Ogun State Health Insurance Agency (OGSHIA),* among others.

*WDC OGUN STATE CHAIRMAN COMMENDS STRONG PARTNERSHIP AT AGBARA HEALTH CENTRE, INSPECTS NESTLÉ-FUNDED HEALTH PROJECT*

_Agbara, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Ogun State / Monday 3rd August 2026_

*The State Chairman of the Ward Development Committee (WDC), Ogun State Council, Alhaji Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, JP, on Tuesday paid a Quality Assurance Visit to Agbara Health Centre in Agbara, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, as part of the Council's commitment to strengthening Primary Health Care services across Ogun State.*

The State Chairman was warmly received by members of the *WDC Agbara, led by the Ward Chairman, Mr. Olufemi Adewunmi.* Also participating in the visit was the *State Vice Chairman, Hon. Kayode Ojumo,* who joined virtually and appreciated the State Chairman for extending the quality assurance exercise to Agbara Ward.

During the visit, Alhaji Asiwaju Dapo Wahab commended the cordial working relationship between the Ward Development Committee and the health workers at the facility, led by the *Officer-in-Charge, Matron Adeosun A. O.* He described the strong collaboration as a model worthy of emulation and encouraged both parties to sustain the peaceful partnership, noting that effective cooperation among stakeholders remains essential for improving Primary Health Care service delivery.

The WDC Chairman, Mr. Olufemi Adewunmi, and the Officer-in-Charge expressed appreciation to the State Chairman for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of responsive leadership. They assured him of their continued commitment to supporting the objectives of the Ward Development Committee as partners in progress.

As part of the visit, the State Chairman and his team paid a courtesy visit to the palace of *HRM Oba Barr Lukman Jayeola Agunbiade Olute III Alagbara of Agbara* to appreciate the traditional ruler for his unwavering support to the Ward Development Committee and the development of the health facility within the community.

The delegation also inspected the ongoing construction project at *Agbara Health Centre being executed by Nestlé Nigeria Plc* as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. The project, facilitated through the efforts of the WDC Agbara, is expected to enhance the infrastructure and quality of healthcare services available to residents of the community.

WDC OGUN STATE LEADS PRIMARY HEALTH CARE AWARENESS CAMPAIGN AT OSIELE MARKET

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community awareness and improve the utilization of *Primary Health Care (PHC) services,* *the Ward Development Committee (WDC), Ogun State Council*, under the leadership of the *State Chairman, Alhaji Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, JP,* on Wednesday, 29th July 2026, carried out a public awareness campaign at *Osiẹle Market.*

The State Chairman was represented by the *WDC State Youth Leader, Mr. Oke Ayoleke Z.,* who led the sensitization exercise alongside members of the *Osiele PHC Ward Development Committee (WDC),* the *Officer-in-Charge (OIC)* of the facility, and the *facility's Vocal Person.*

The awareness programme featured the distribution of information flyers, one-on-one engagement with market traders, and public sensitization on the importance of accessing healthcare services through Primary Health Care Centres. Members of the public were also enlightened on the various healthcare interventions and improvements put in place by the Ogun State Government to ensure quality, affordable, and accessible healthcare services at PHC facilities.

The exercise recorded a positive response from traders and members of the public, with the successful distribution of awareness materials and increased public understanding of the benefits of utilizing Primary Health Care services.

The Ward Development Committee (WDC), Ogun State Council appreciates the support and encouragement of the Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC) and other partners in advancing community health awareness and strengthening Primary Health Care service delivery across Ogun State.
