SAMIM FORCE COMMANDER VISITS COMBAT TEAM CHARLIE IN MACOMIA ON 13 APRIL 2024
On 13 April 2024, Major General Patrick Njabulo Dube, the SADC Mission In Mozambique (SAMIM) Force Commander graced the RSA Forward Operating Base (FOB) with a heart-warming visit in Macomia. The aim of the visit was to conduct a physical inspection on the readiness status of withdrawal of Combat Team Charlie.
The Force Commander arrived just before midday accompanied by the Republic of South Africa’s National Contingent Commander, Colonel Klaas Kabai. Upon his arrival, the Force Commander inspected the perimeter defence lines of the FOB and gave guidelines to improve security of the base, he commended the members on their defensive posture as he was inspecting perimeter defence lines.
The Force Commander simultaneously inspected the equipment, vehicles and facilities utilised by Combat Team Charlie and this granted him the opportunity to interact with the men and women on the ground where he asked about their wellbeing and experience in the front line. The smile on the soldiers faces caused by the Force Commander’s presence indicated how pleased they were to see him, this was indeed a good day for the Republic of South Africa’s soldiers in the front line.
The Force Commander had a session with all the officers of Combat Team Charlie, where he addressed the issues of command and leadership with the emphasis on the welfare of the soldiers and applauded them on their outstanding leadership. In his words, the Force Commander stated that “I am pleased to see how well you are performing in commanding soldiers, I am happy with how protected the base is, you have certainly exceeded my expectations.” He concluded with the officers by encouraging them to continue to support the Commander of Combat Team Charlie and taking care of the troops.
The Force Commander proceeded to address all members of Combat Team Charlie where he commended them for their outstanding performance during SAMIM. “South Africa has always advocated for collective defence and is a country that does not stand back when other nations are experiencing challenges, be it humanitarian needs or in a conflict situation. There are a lot of expectations from South Africa as a country and from you as soldiers of the SANDF. Do not forget that you are imbued with the spirit of King Shaka, King Cetshwayo, King Moshoeshoe, King Sekhukhune, King Hintsa, General De La Rey and all others who came before us, the spirit to fight for a safe SADC Region and more over a safe Africa. The contribution of the SANDF is remarkable and commendable in bringing peace and stability in Cabo Delgado and the community of Mozambique.” Force commander said.
The Force Commander concluded his address by acknowledging the fact that the members have endured a lot in the mission area and should make use of the services of the Multi-Professional Teams and other avenues available at their disposal. This will assist soldiers during their preparation to reintegrate with their families back home. He encouraged them to remain disciplined and vigilant on the last days of the deployment.
The Commander Combat Team Charlie, Lieutenant Colonel Brian Miller expressed his gratitude to the Force Commander for his visit to the front line.
