Today is World Wildlife Day, and the message it brings is a poignant one: The future of Wildlife is in our hands. We'de like to share this fascinating Dugong-Turtle interaction with you, and hope that it inspires a sense of guardianship over fragile natural environments and wild animals. We're the reason that most of them are endangered, and we can turn the tide on extinction if we choose to.

Our Scouts in action- confiscating equipment and sea cucumbers from poachers yesterday morning. Congratulations to the team for their sterling efforts to curb illegal activities in December- where 47 marine Patrols were deployed- including on Christmas day, adding up to 3,589KM of coverage.

Well done to the Scouts based at Chizungune outpost who apprehended one of the area's most problematic poachers yesterday morning. The Scouts set out to patrol at 04:30 AM and found the suspect spear-fishing on 2-mile reef. All fishing gear including the boat was confiscated, and the poacher will be called to trial. Excellent work guys!

Did you know... Dugongs eat up to 10% of their body weight in seagrass every day? These blubbery herbivores aren't the only ones that love seagrass- when plants are able to sequester huge amounts of carbon dioxide- you just gotta love them too! We're about to start working on a project with The EWT that will help reduce the amount of seagrass damage by seine nets. We'll keep you posted on this conservation initiative.

These are the Park's two Law Enforcement boats. Each of them performs an average of 1200Km of patrol coverage every month. In October, 2451Km of coverage was achieved, and 212 items of illegal fishing equipment confiscated.

Zones of Total Protection are classified as areas within the National Park where no resource utilisation of any kind is permitted- indicated by the red dots on the map.

You too can help protect our Park- please assist us by reporting any illegal activities (Spear fishing on reefs, fishing in Zones of Total Protection, harvesting sea cucumbers) to our Law Enforcement Officers on the following numbers: 84 549 3922/ 84 (In October & November- Portuguese speaking), and 84 202 0704 (also in October and November- English speaking). We'll do our best to react to the situation immediately. Numbers for December will follow. Let's keep our Park safe from Poaching.
