Daerah Tenom, Sabah

Daerah Tenom, Sabah Tenom is a town located in Interior Division of Sabah, east Malaysia on the island of Borneo. The town was called Fort Birch in the early colonial period.

Its population was estimated to be around 46,200 in the year 2000.

Many rural places still practice padi (local rice) farming, the type of grain is similar to brown rice. But such farming is small scale, as such the price is higher. Besides, not very many people are used to this variety of rice. Rice is a staple diet in South East Asia, while the variety of rice sold in supermarkets are imported polished rice from various Asian countries.

KALIMARAN FESTIVAL:
The Kalimaran Festival celebrated by the Murut tribes of Sabah is a festival to honor the Murut traditions. Talking to the local people, I was made to understand that Kalimaran, otherwise known as Pesta Kalimaran is akin to the Kaamatan Festival. The difference is the date it is celebrated and of course, the tribes involved. The celebration is held in the Murut Cultural Village in Tenom on 2nd to 4th April 2010, and it is a grand affair with the involvement of the entire Murut population in Tenom.
