Yes, we've seen them in movies and yes, we've heard about them. They are the stones we walk by daily, unnoticeable & unheard. Their life stories can make the happiest person in the world...tear.
We a group of 7, went out armed with food and water into the darker part of the busiest city in Malaysia. What we saw there was heart wrenching enough. At first we walked searching, until one man came up and asked "Boleh saya dapat makanan?" Then slowly we found a second person to give, then the third. By the time we knew there were hundreds of them.
Yes, you read it right. There were hundreds of them; statistically speaking there are thousands of men and women, sleeping in hunger on the streets. But we could only do so much, as we came equipped with limited amount of food and water.
All were thanking us for what we gave but there was this one couple who showed us what we can really be. They were sleeping when we saw them. Scary enough they were surrounded by a pack of dogs. 12 to be exact. The couple eventually woke up when we offered them food and as we left we had a glimpse, a sight never to be forgotten...They literally shared their food with the dogs in despite of their own hunger. I always thought of this as an gesture that I'll only be able to see in movies. We gave them a few packets more and left.
What I'm requesting here today is for everyone to not see the ant across the sea when there's an elephant standing right in-front of you. Let's take care of our own "home" first before looking into the neighbours house.
Kuala Lumpur the city of hope. A dream of many. Literally.
