Insights on the fundamentals of HTA and CPG was successfully delivered to the first cohort of MOH future health managers, by Dr Roza Sarimin from MaHTAS.

The insightful session strengthens the understanding of the audience on how HTA facilitates credible and impactful decision making, driving clinical excellence in healthcare delivery, setting health priorities and resource allocation. The dedication shared by all involved in the session reflects the collective commitment towards having an efficient, resilient and high quality health system.

Delegates from MaHTAS attended a seminar hosted by MRANTI. Among the key insights gained by MaHTAS were:

💡 The Technology Transfer Office (TTO) accelerates commercialisation by bridging academia and industry through targeted researcher training, IP protection, and structured funding.

💡 Moving a technology forward (Technology Readiness Level) is impossible without industry partnership. Success requires a holistic ecosystem that integrates Innovation (IRL), Commercialisation (CRL), Manufacturing (MRL), and Adoption (ARL) readiness.

💡 Effective collaboration is bottle necked by misaligned expectations and ineffective communication at both the macro (policy/industry alignment) and micro (researcher/partner dialogue) levels.

💡 Knowledge Exchange (KE) initiatives such as private labs in tech parks and high-frequency conversation zones are essential to seamlessly share talent, infrastructure, and ideas.

💡 Utilizing Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) is vital to quantify real-world monetary value, align research with government/user needs, and select the highest-impact initiatives for market adoption.

💡 Securing early industry commitment through a risk-sharing model with the government ensures that innovations are successfully absorbed, scaled, and commercialised.

💡 To maximize investment and accelerate real-world impact, the ecosystem must embrace a paradigm shift that views Intellectual Property (IP) not as a mere academic KPI or researcher achievement indicator, but as a dynamic asset for strategic commercialisation.

SUCCESSFUL WRAP-UP: TACHTEE MEETING NO. 1/2026

We are pleased to share that the Technical Advisory Committee for Health Technologies Economic Evaluation (TACHTEE) Meeting No. 1/2026 was successfully held today, 7 May 2026.

Today's session was filled with insightful deliberations and highly interactive discussions among our expert committee members.
The meeting featured two presentations on health technology evaluations:
1) Protocol for evaluations on Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists (GLP-1 Agonists) presented by Cik Nurkhodrulnada Muhamad Lattepi;
2)Economic evaluation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Digital Breast Tomosynthesis for Breast Cancer Screening presented by Dr. Erni Zurina Romli.

The committee also reviewed the recent activities of the Health Economics and Value-based Unit to ensure our healthcare technology remains efficient and evidence-based.

A huge thank you goes out to our dedicated participants from MoH Headquarters, various hospitals, and our university partners. We truly appreciate the commitment of those who joined us physically at the Ibnu Al-Zahrawi Meeting Room in Putrajaya , as well as those who contributed virtually through Google Meet. Your diverse perspectives are what make these evaluations robust and impactful for the nation's health system. Together, we continue to strive for excellence in healthcare technology and economic evaluation!

TECHNICAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE (TAC) HORIZON SCANNING MEETING No. 2/2026

The second technical advisory committee (TAC) meeting for horizon scanning was successfully held today in Bilik Mesyuarat Ibnu Sina, Level 1, Block E1, Ministry of Health Malaysia. The meeting was chaired by YBrs. Dr. Nor Azham Hakim Darail ,Surgical Consultant from Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

Four technologies were presented in detail, and three were prioritised:
1) Oral Paclitaxel plus Encequidar for Metastatic Breast Cancer
2) Oral Icotrokinra for Plaque Psoriasis
3) Obicetrapib for Patients with High Cardiovascular Risk
4) Deep Learning AI-based Retinal Scan for Predicting Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events (MACE) in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all TAC HS members for their valuable time, insights, active participation, and unwavering commitment throughout the meeting. Your diverse expertise and perspectives have not only helped us to improve but also strengthened Horizon Scanning as an early warning system in Malaysia’s healthcare, ensuring timely and evidence‑based policy decisions.

That’s a wrap! Transforming Trauma Care, One Trainer at a Time.

The CPG Unit, MaHTAS is thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of the Launching and Training of Core Trainers (TCT) for the CPG on Management of Abdominal Trauma in Adults, held from 15–16 April 2026.

Over two high-impact days, we combined a prestigious launching ceremony with intensive, interactive lectures and deep-dive case discussions.

🏥 Highlights of the Event:
• Expert Participation: We welcomed 140 specialists from across Malaysia which included trauma surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, emergency physicians, transfusion medicine specialists, radiologists and family medicine specialists who are dedicated to mastering this CPG.

• National Impact: These core trainers are now equipped to spearhead implementation at their respective centers nationwide.

• Evidence-Based Future: This brand-new CPG provides clinical recommendations designed to standardize care and improve outcomes for abdominal trauma patients across the country.

🚀 Over 3200 Healthcare Professionals Empowered!

We are thrilled with the incredible turnout for last Saturday’s (11/4) training for Primary Care Providers on the CPG Management of Asthma in Adults (Second Edition) held by MaHTAS in collaboration with MMA via online.

A massive thank you to the 500+ participants on Zoom and 2.7K+ viewers on Facebook Live who joined us for this deep dive on asthma management in the primary care setting.

Systematic Review on Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) Development and Implementation Workshop 1/2026

The CPG Unit of MaHTAS is off to a productive start for 2026!
From April 7th to 9th, we successfully hosted our latest workshop at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).

This core training brought together 44 dedicated participants primarily from three upcoming CPG development groups:
✅ Management of Glaucoma 3rd Edition
✅ Management of Rheumatoid Arthritis 2nd Edition
✅ Management of Multiple Sclerosis 2nd Edition

Over the three days, participants were trained on:
• Critical Appraisal: Evaluating various levels of research articles.
• Development Framework: Mastering the systematic guideline development process.
• Economic Evaluation: Understanding the vital role of cost-effectiveness in clinical pathways.

The feedback was incredibly encouraging, with many noting that the session provided the perfect foundation to kickstart their journey in developing national clinical guidelines.
