Book ninja diary 🖊️🗒️✨

Visited Beca Tea to try their tea mocktails today, and was glad I happened to bring a book along to drop! 🥷

📍There are a few cosy corners in the shop, softly partitioned with drapes, I appreciated the privacy and managed to get some reading in 🤓 Also love the tasteful little notes about tea craftsmanship scattered around the shop, almost like a mini art gallery.

📖 The Parrots is a novel by Alexandra Shulman who is the former editor of British Vogue. The story follows a well-to-do London family whose stable life is upended by the arrival of two alluring and destructive Italian siblings.

Now the book (a brand new copy actually!) is waiting for its next reader at Beca Tea! I wonder who will find it. Please tag us if you’re the lucky finder of the book! 💛

Here it is - super obvious spot! You can’t miss it!

Ordered this drink from their caffeine-free menu - it’s called Bluepink and so refreshing!

Weekend in Melaka ☀️ Visited this quaint café around the Jonker area and fell in love with it instantly.

There were small pockets of bookshelves, a mishmash of retro furniture, and an old-school audio player playing Gigi Leung on cassette.

It felt like the right home for this book I brought along to drop - one from my personal collection: 林夕 x Middle’s 《閉起雙眼你最掛念誰》.

I was attracted to this book many years ago (back when I was in my Lover era 🤭), mainly because I’ve always been a fan of many songs written by the talented lyricist Lin Xi. This book is a unique compilation of stories expanded from selected song lyrics he has written. 🎶

There may be some yellow spots on the pages now, but it’s still a prized possession. I’ve decided to let it go and share it with the next reader, in case it could inspire someone else to love and be loved. 💓

Cheers to the finder and keeper of this book. Hunt for it at The Coffee JAR 呷珈琲 in Melaka.

A tribute to Marjane Satrapi. 🕊️
Persepolis was one of the many books I shared at our pop-up library last month. I re-read it recently and found it such an interesting way to understand Iran’s complex past through Satrapi’s childhood memories and everyday life as a little girl. Since it’s a graphic novel, it is very easy to get into even though the story carries so much weight. It also reminded me how important it is to understand history in order to make sense of what is happening in the world today. This is also why books are great source of information - they help us see beyond the headlines and understand different perspectives. Rest in peace Marjane Satrapi.

✨For anyone who needs a little affirmation today 🤍
This is from one of the books I shared at our pop-up library - a collection of ‘s daily affirmations. Each page offers a quote, reflection and a small intention for the day.

When in doubt, I just flip it open - and it always brings clarity. Today’s affirmation is 💯!

Happy Mother’s Day! 💕 This was one of the books I shared at the pop-up library last week, Mom & Me & Mom by the late Maya Angelou.

🖊️ I’ve always been a big fan of her writing style - it feels like a friend telling you her story, but with a quiet touch of poetry in it.

📖 In this book, Maya Angelou writes about her mother in a way that feels very real - not polished, not perfect, but full of moments that slowly make sense as you read on. There’s warmth, distance, humour, forgiveness… all mixed together in a way that feels very human.

✨Just wanted to spotlight this book today as a gentle reminder that motherhood can be seen, felt, and understood in many different ways, not only in celebration, but also in reflection.

📚 Have you read any books that stayed with you when it comes to motherhood? Or to mothers here, have you read anything that made you feel a little more seen along the way? Welcome your recs below.
