Sultan Ahmad Shah Medical Centre (SASMEC ), in collaboration with Phytotech Club IIUM Kuantan, successfully organised SCITRA: MEDKASIH VENTURE under the KPT Madani Sejahtera initiative on 9 May 2026.

The programme was conducted in collaboration with Jabatan Kemajuan Orang Asli (JAKOA), Malaysia Relief Agency (MRA), and Volunteer Club IIUM Kuantan, held at Pusat Latihan JAKOA, Kampung Orang Asli Paya Bungor, Gambang.

Various engaging and educational activities were organised for the local community, including blood group testing, anthelmintic awareness sessions, CPR demonstrations, colouring contests and clown performances for children.

The activities were conducted with the involvement of the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, Department of Emergency & Trauma, as well as several other departments from SASMEC .

The programme is deemed successful after managed to receive an encouraging response, with more than 100 members of the Orang Asli community participating in the activities.

Under the decentralised initiative, SASMEC is more driven than ever to disseminating healthcare education to the masses and improving accessibility to the marginalised.

Sultan Ahmad Shah Medical Centre (SASMEC ) successfully participated in the East Coast Healthcare & Science Career Fair (ECCAF) 2026, held on 9 May 2026 at the Grand Hall, Office of the Campus Director, IIUM Kuantan.

The career fair served as an excellent platform for industry engagement, bringing together more than 30 exhibiting agencies and attracting approximately 1,000 prospective candidates seeking career advancement in the healthcare and science sectors.

As part of our ongoing commitment to nurturing talent and strengthening our healthcare workforce, SASMEC , through the Department of Human Resource, actively promoted current job openings within the medical centre to the attendees by facilitating the applications, walk in interview for nurse position and career advisory.

An appreciation to the Counselling and Career Services Department as the main organiser who have put painstaking efforts in making the event a success and fruitful.

Sultan Ahmad Shah Medical Centre (SASMEC ), through its Department of Emergency & Trauma and Dental & Maxillofacial Surgery Unit, has successfully organised a comprehensive community transformation initiative titled "Island Guardian: Community Care & Supporting Wellness" to strengthen emergency and dental healthcare services in Tioman Island.

Operative under the KPT Madani Sejahtera 2026 framework, the programme prioritised the training of tourism and maritime workers who serve as frontline responders during medical emergencies involving visitors.

The primary objective was to equip boat crews and resort staff with vital emergency assessment skills to handle incidents such as drowning and heat-related illnesses.

The initiative also prioritised oral health advocacy, providing education to parents and children regarding the prevention of oral cancer and Early Childhood Caries (ECC).

The programme received a warm response from the community, with an involvement of participants coming from a range of government agencies including Jabatan Perlindungan Hidupan Liar dan Taman Negara (PERHILITAN), Pejabat Agama Islam Daerah Rompin, Pejabat Laut Tioman, Balai Polis Pulau Tioman, Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Unit Tioman and Sekolah Kebangsaan Tekek.

To ensure a measurable impact, the programme targeted improvement in participants' understanding of life-saving techniques, with the goal of establishing a group of trained community first responders.

Dental teams conducted screenings for residents and provided professional fluoride applications to children to reduce the prevalence of preventable oral diseases.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohd Syafwan Adnan, Director Clinical (Medical Services) of SASMEC also took part in the outreach programme and acted as the hospital representative to a rendezvous with the chairman of Pertubuhan Peladang Kawasan Tioman, En. Abdul Hafaz Abd. Hamid.

SASMEC sought to cultivate sustainable health transformation by providing island communities with direct access to specialised health assessments and at the same time, forming strategic partnerships with local village committees on the island.

There is a quiet sanctity in the way Islam commands us to cherish our mothers. In Surah Al-Isra (17:23), we are told that even a breath of frustration is too heavy a burden to lay at her feet. Sultan Ahmad Shah Medical Centre (SASMEC ) recently conducted a comprehensive Table Top Exercise to strengthen its disaster management protocols and fire safety readiness.

The session, which was held on 5 May, is specifically designed to evaluate the effectiveness of the hospital’s Emergency Response Plan (ERP) during simulated fire-related emergencies, assess the overall preparedness levels of hospital staff and evaluate the synergy of coordination between various departments.

Guided by the institution's core values of RESTU, the exercise brought together approximately 50 participants, including heads of departments and clinical coordinators.

Unlike traditional drills that require physical movement, this program utilised a structured approach of guided discussions to simulate realistic disaster scenarios without the need for actual evacuations or the deployment of physical resources.

By employing this simulation-based strategy, SASMEC aimed to proactively identify operational gaps and pinpoint specific areas for improvement within its emergency response chain.

The initiative was led by an organising committee from the SASMEC Fire Safety Committee, operating under the guidance of Disaster Management Committee chairman Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohd Syafwan Adnan who is also the Director Clinical (Medical Services).

The road to materialise the code orange strategy was very essential for the safety standard of the hospital as it was attended by all top management, including Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohamed Saufi Awang, Hospital Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mat Salleh Sarif, Director Clinical (Surgical Services), Mdm. Che Rokiah Ismail, Director (Clinical Support Services) and Dr. Siti Zainab Tauhed, Director (Administration) of SASMEC .
